He'd be a damn good Booster Gold.
Agreed 100%. He rocks at self-parody roles.
In a serious role as a stoic Superman? I wouldn't buy it.
He'd be a damn good Booster Gold.
Oh gosh....
Joe M. was just at Comic-Con being interviewed by G4-Tech TV and he mentioned his Superman petition and mentioned the fans online posting pictures of him and supporting his cause. :/
I'm really not a fan of him for Superman. I swear he's only on True Blood just for the sex scenes.
)
I say he has a good screen presence and all the gravitas the role needs, his looks are different from what we are used, but he looks like superman in the comics of the 90`s
And I think someone a bit more rough looking could be a good change for the representation of the live version of Superman.
Looking at this video, this is how I think a Joe Manganiello Superman could be portrayed on the movie:
[YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWQHYUsptJk[/YT]
DC UNIVERSE ONLINE TRAILER
(BTW that video makes me drool to the possibility of a JLA movie)
And we know he wants the role:
http://g4tv.com/videos/47634/True-Bloods-Joe-Manganiello--Kristin-Bauer-at-Comic-Con/
(he looks like he is standing on a box or on a closer plane, he dwarf the other two)
And I know its a long shot that he will get the role, but what the heck, WB will probably cast someone no one expects and has in mind just like it happened with Routh, (Even Routh got rejected two times when auditioning for the role) in the mean time I will keep my fingers crossed for Joe (at least he wants the role), even if some people kind of take it a bit personal, there is no harm in trowing names to the rost
Play nice guys, don't take it personal, everyone has a different vision of Superman![]()
Your manips honestly turned me more against him. I'm not saying anything bad about your work either, but the pics just made me see more and more features that I don't like to see for Superman.
Physically Manganiello is in perfect shape for Superman... And, he does have the desire to be the man of steel![]()
Hey, thats fair, I have no problems with that, I knew it could happen
The more you see of someone, it makes you like or dislike him more
There are some new names that have been thrown here that I think can work as Superman, but like you the more I see of Hamm, the less supermanish he seems to me (or at least a modern version of the character)
It just that some people seems to think whoever don't see what they see they are idiots
Oh totally dude
Hamm didn't seem that bad at first, but then the more I thought about it the more I was like "It could work, but not really what I want to see."
Maybe I'm a fool, but I would rather have someone playing Superman that feel passionate about the character thats why Joe is my top choice (if Routh doesn't come back) than an actor that just sees him as another Role
... I can imagine the interviews:
"Yeah I did read superman when I was a kid, but I finally out grew him, and move on, but I think we managed to ad new things to the character and I put my own view to finally make him relevant and interesting"
He is in shape, but his face looks like he met Rocky Balboa and lost.
"... but even with that I thought he could fit the bootsThere are a few things that make a SUPERMAN.
He has to have "the look".
He has to have the height/body.
He has to have a likeability factor.
He has to WANT to be Superman, not just playing a role.. He has to WANT to BE Superman.
Well, I admit his nose is problematic
I had seen Joe before in the series he did in the past, but he never striked me as Superman (well, basically because Routh was superman, and you could say I wasn't looking for a replacement), but last year I saw him and Superman came to my mind, and more so in a video I where he was with his personal trainer for TB
It was only until I looked for photos of him that I noticed "Damn... his nose is crooked..."... but even with that I thought he could fit the boots
EXACTLY!Plus you don't want Superman (well, the man playing the role) being featured later on perezhilton or TMZ because of his behavior (thats one of the aspects I like about Routh and Welling, some of the character traits seem to have embedded in their personality)

He should just get a nose job anyways, it would land him more roles.
I'd rather have Zach Levi than Padalecki.

He is only 5'9 though, good actor but probably not right for Superman.
Rant coming.
Some of these suggestions lead me to believe some of you guys have never seen a picture of Superman and some of your more general suggestions are pure fanboy fantasy.
One, don't suggest the token tall white guy that is on what happens to be your favorite TV show at the time.
Two, stop with the borderline anti STM and Chris Reeve talk. Just b/c you're 16 years old and grew up on Spiderman movies that were all blatent rip offs of the Reeve movies anyway, doesn't mean STM sucks b/c it's old.
Specifiaclly, saying that everything contributed to the mythos by Donner should be ignored is ignoring reality and the media of film. Just b/c some of the comics have the fortress with robots and shrunken cities doesn't mean that would translate well to film. The crystal fortress is easily the best incarnation visually for film. Those who say they want Clark the real guy and Superman the disguise, no not for a film. Having Clark a cool guy similar to Superman just won't work for a film. There needs to be a visual difference between the two. Ideally Clark would want to dissapear from people, meaning no one ever thinks about him, he is not memorable enough to ever be thought of , nevermind thought of to be Superman. But having a quiet guy shying away from everyone would be boring in a movie, hence Reeve's clumsy Clark. It was a good visual seperation of the two, maybe not to the extent of Reeve but definitely not Cain's version which was one in the same to his Superman. And on a side note, Cain was 6 feet even and he was too short. Superman needs to be big and tall (and not just in heels or with "movie tricks")
Also enough of the "we need a guy who doesn't look like Reeve." This ignores the fact that Reeve looked like Superman! So you don't want someone who looks like Superman?
Superman needs to be big and bulky, more so than being shredded. That recent pic of Cavill shows me that he is really too small in figure. Anyone of you can drop body fat and look shredded, doesn't mean you will look big in the suit. The actor doesn't even need to be shredded at all really, he just needs to be big. Not doughey obviously, and just cut enough to have a chisled face. No 6 pack abs needed.
Check out Kill Bill volume 2, there's a good little speech in there that may shed some light on why Superman IS different from Spiderman or others. Not to get into a tussle over semantics but he was not raised to be Clark Kent as we see him in Metropolis. He was raised to be Clark on the farm, which is and has to be different from Clark in the city. City Clark is just as much of a disguise as Superman is. All three egos are different and none will work effectively on film if one or any is too close to the other.
If I'm not mistaken, Swan was b4 Reeve. Reeve looked like Swan's Supes. Waspy features, high cheekbones, sqaure jaw, thin lips (sorry Welling).
Not much insight here, JUST SOME MATT BOMER DANCIN IN CLARK KENT GLASSES.

But uh, yeah. Still my first choice.
God he makes a great Clark Kent. There are a few things that make a SUPERMAN.
He has to have "the look".
He has to have the height/body.
He has to have a likeability factor.
He has to WANT to be Superman, not just playing a role.. He has to WANT to BE Superman.

I'm still amazed by how much some of you guys support Routh. He had all the screen presence of a cardboard cutout in Superman Returns. Yes, the script sucked, but he was practically a zombie in that movie.
I'll agree that of all the actors out there, he most resembles the character physically. And with Superman, looks are important. But Superman also needs to have a presence that can inspire a nation and scare the piss out of a massive army. I haven't seen that in Routh in anything he's been in.
