I like Joe or Jon for the part. I'd go with Joe because he's younger and less identified with a role unlike Hamm, but Hamm would still be a decent choice.

If they're going with an older actor, I'd prefer Paul Bettany.

draper would be a great superman if the movie was set in the late 40's or early 50's.....or if nolan decided that once superman hit a "mature" age, that he ceased to age. which i can see since they have hinted at their being a "twist." What if "clark kent" was the latest incarnation of supermans "secret identity" and that he had been around for hundreds of years, trying to figure out how to "get home"..whic is where brainiac comes in?

^^ Then it shouldn't be called a Superman movie.

Still don't know if Joe's a good actor or not, but I just watched that vid of him talking to Jillian Barbarie and those other news anchors and I can't help but want to pull for the guy. He seems like a really cool dude in real life, and as a Pittsburgher myself, I'd have to say that it would be cool seeing a diehard Black & Gold fanboy land the role.

He's been a favourite of mine for Superman for years.

He has all of the physical characteristics needed for a Superman/Clark Kent candidate and he has the acting experience and charisma to do a good job.

Plus if the alleged rumors are true, that WB's will only be looking at American actors for Supes.....then Duhamel fits the bill on that end also.

I'm starting to kinda like this Joe manganiello suggestion, but he's second behind Cavill for me.

dammit, it they really want to go with older actor,

then Caviezel is the only choice.

sign him up and get on with it for jor el's sake.

Christian Bale is 36...

Is Superman older than Batman?

Cause if so, doesn't the actor kind of have to at least LOOK older than Bale... which most of the suggestions that I like don't.

To me....this ridiculous unknown actor to play Superman stuff is an old and tired way of thinking.

They need an actor with some solid acting experience IMO.

It'd be okay if they were going for a slightly younger guy. But the thing is, if they are going for an older Superman, then for it to be an unknown it's gotta be someone who has obviously been trying and failing to be an actor for years... and that's gotta be because they aren't very good.

What about Alexis Denisof? (again, not for me, but I can see it for some!)

No offense, but...you have no idea what you're talking about, do you?

Superman is younger than Batman and Hal Jordan, but only by a few years.

Bale, Reynolds and Routh's ages are pretty much intact with their comic counterparts.

Older actors for Supes:

Hugh Jackman
Jim Caviezel
Josh Duhamel

I don't know much about Duhamel and I don't mind Jim (but all those darn Christ references would be played up by the media again and I'd very much prefer to get away from that).

Hugh Jackman -- not a chance. The WB would be downright stupid to cast a well-known like Hugh, especially one who is now synonymous with Wolverine -- so much so that the guy has a stand-alone film.

If rumors are true, they'll cast a relatively known actor from TV this time, which I think is the right way to go.

Fox and Hamm are better options compared to those, IMHO.

Have to agree.

Hamm and Manganiello are my top two choices.

It may or may not be hamm, but its looking like they're at least shooting for an older actor...me like.

It was writter who failed story not director

Ummm, not to be a jerk, but it was stupid little Bryan Singer that came up with the story, wrote the outline/treatment, and helped write the script I'm sure. Even if he didn't, the other two are true. It was Singer's vision, therefor Returns is the bastard child of Bryan Singer. God, I can't get past my hatred of Superman Returns. It's right there with the American Godzilla and the Star Wars prequel trilogy as one of the most irritating, frustration inducing pieces of work I've every seen.

What about Alexis Denisof? (again, not for me, but I can see it for some!)

Now this is a name drop that I can respect. Based on my screen name, I'm a mega-Angel fanboy, and Wesley Wyndam-Pryce(Denisof) is my favorite character, one of my favorite television characters period. Denisof is talented and I can't figure out why he isn't working. But he is another that is too old now. But I see where it could have been possibly. He can play two distinctive personalities without one being forced, can honestly look DIFFERENT with and without glasses, again without being forced. Good at voice switches, gets into character. Might have been too frail, but we will never know now.

Bruce is 30 in BB and TDK. So a younger actor has got to portray Clark/Superman.

Yeah, it depends. An early 30 something around Routh's age can still pass for late 20s or 30 easily.

I'm hoping they don't cast older than 25-35 for this, otherwise I'll bet you they'll end up re-casting again the role Marvel Studios style IF we get sequels and/or a Justice League movie.

I can kind of see your point, but I think your being ignorant of just how hard it is to make it big in the acting business. Oftentimes, it has nothing to do with the level of acting talent. It's usually just being in the right place at the right time. Guys like Channing Tatum and Sam Worthington are not good actors, but someone "noticed" them somewhere and decided to make them movie stars, whether we like it or not. On the other hand, the amazingly talented Viggo Mortensen was a relative unknown until his mid-40s, when he hit it big with the LOTR movies.

Also, you have to take into consideration that many actors make an effort to avoid "movie star" status because it allows them to portray a variety of different characters without worrying about audiences and critics having a pre-conceived notion about them.

Good point.

On another note, I guess I'm still in the minority that didn't see SR as such a big "mistake" to Superman. I still love the movie and am quite glad Singer gave us a story that went away from the crap we almost got for nearly ten years.
