I wouldn't like an actor that has to wear something like this every time he has to promote the film:

Do you?

Some people had problems with the soles of the boots in SR, because they were very thick to give Routh a couple of inches, now, can you imagine the kind of boots a shorter actor will need?

And:

Oddly enough, I've seen plenty of excitement in the Comments sections of websites reporting Hamm's candidacy. I don't see it. Don't get it. Don't like it.

And I've noticed a re-occuring pattern: Several people shout HOORAY. One dude points out that he looks too old. Then another "smart guy" posts something like, "Well, Robert Downey Jr. is older than him and he's Iron Man." To which I always want to say, "TONY STARK is SUPPOSED to be a flawed, normal human being. Tony Stark is just a rich guy. A rich guy who often has a substance abuse problem. Also a rich guy who admittedly can only do bad ass things when he's in The Suit. So it makes plenty of sense to see him get older, but still be able to portray Iron Man. SUPERMAN is a freakin' alien, one that few continuities have shown age much at all, and who should look downright pristine. Hamm is ALL READY showing signs of cracked skin and wrinkles on his face. Can you imagine how he'll look in a couple of years?!?" Also, when people say "He'll need to bulk up," I also want to slap them across the face. It's no simple matter of "bulking up." Anyone can put on muscle. It doesn't make them Superman. Look at Hamm's frame. He's a small, petit, narrow-shouldered man. Superman, as we know him, is bigger, brawnier, and has a thicker frame. The actor needs to be a little wider than that. It's the difference between them bulking up and looking like Manganiello, and them bulking up and looking like Bruce Lee. The bone structure makes all the difference, and HAMM doesn't have it.

AHEM!

Okay. Done venting :) I'm a "lurker" on most other forums, so I brought my grievances here.

I don't know what or who nolan has in mind, whether it will be an older Superman or younger. If it's an older supes and hamm get cast, then great. If not, thats fine to.
There is just waaay too much talk about hamm for the role for there not to be something to it. That could change of course, and we could start hearing about someone else, but as of now, we're not.

Really? THIS would bother people? Seeing their Superman actor in paparazzi magazines and women's magazines wearing some big shoes?

Seriously, the only people who would see these are fashion and hollywood enthusiasts (since those are the only trade publications that run photos like these). I'm really surprised that the height issue is such a big deal. I get that it should be a factor but I would only care if it were substantially different. All the actors mentioned here are at least Downey, Jr.'s height and that's more than fine.

In this case, I don't think the height is the issue (at least among the rumored candidates). What it's about is the acting chops and the look. Downey's acting clearly carried Iron Man from the mediocre to the rock solid (face it, that's what made Iron Man 1 so very, very good). Downey could pull off the comedic with the serious; it helped that his real-life persona also embodied Tony Stark in some ways ;-)

Hamm was the fan's favorite for Captain America -- and I for one was disappointed when they cast so young, but that was because of the Avengers film.

For Superman, we don't really know whether there will be a JL film. What is guaranteed is that Nolan is going to deliver ONE *hopefully* excellent Superman story. IMHO, as GreenKToo said, if it's an older Superman story, then Hamm/Fox are the strongest contenders. Height is a non-issue.

Superman is 6'4.

Caviezel would have to wear 2 inch thick boots...Hamm, 5 inches so :lmao:

Nolan's superman MIGHT NOT be 6'4. Ever think about that. I mean they are looking at Hamm afterall so they must not be to concerned with height.
None of us know what they have in mind, so until they say exactly what they want officially, anyone's guess is as good as another's.

Yall putting way too much weight into the physical aspects of the role

Damn straight. I think in this case their main priority is talent and credibility and not so much height and muscles.

I dont want Hamm because he is too old and short. Nuff said.
Tahmoh Penikett FTW.

Just wondering how much did Robert Downey Jr. wearing shoes that make him appear taller effect your enjoyment of the Iron Man films? For me none at all, I didn't even know he used them until someone posted pics a while ago.

Damn straight. I think in this case their main priority is talent and credibility and not so much height and muscles.

Maybe they are looking for both? Someone who can act and looks like Superman?

Sarcastic, ey?

But of course, that would be preferable, but I just meant that I would assume that the Nolans would be looking for talent rather than a hunk first and foremost.

Once again, Superman is not just about being taller. It is about having a large imposing physical stature. Unless they intend on CGI'ing the body for Hamm, Bomer, Cavill and some of the other names mentioned, adding lifts to their heels still isn't going to make them look the physical part of what Superman should be.

I like a Superman with a nice kind face.

Yep.

Need an actor who is at least 6'1 or taller....naturally.

Anything under 6'0 for a potential Superman actor is no good.

wow.. I'm sure glad Nolan is in charge of the casting, otherwise we would have a fabio type for superman.

here you go :)

Nice!

I'm telling ya, any of these two guys would be a bad ass SuperMAN. Caviezel when he has the serious facial expressions looks good as Supes. Kinda like straight out of the comic books.

Not some model unknown pretty boy 25 year old who can't act worth a damn who would be more like SuperBOY instead of SuperMAN!
