It's funny how we can become accustomed to the strange things.

Look at it as a whole and give no undies a chance :D

Nice manip fanboi, I like the costume from the belt up but the bottom half is not really doing it for me, to me it looks like he's wearing long johns & Doc Marten boots which for me don't work and is an example of why the red trunks are needed to complete the Superman look.
added a background to my costume design. i think it fits a zack snyder movie well :)

As opposed to long johns, red briefs, and galoshes?

I don't see the lack of red undies as ruining "Superman's look". Visually it looks fine without them. I'm starting to think fans have developed a red undies syndrome in which they automatically look at his crotch first. :funny:

They got rid of Captain America's scale armor and made many changes in Thor's film costume. The costumes look good and makes sense in their movies. It's one of those things people need to get used to before they can judge whether it really looks bad.

Well Cap's suit isn't very good anyway and Thor's is a mixture of classic and ultimate. With that being said, accurate costumes dont always equal good films, like X-Men 1 & 2. But I'm afraid you're costume in of itself doesn't appeal to me aesthetically, while it looks technically good there a few briefless suit that provide an adequate colour break yet still retain the simpleness and iconicness of the Superman suit. But considering this is Zack Snyder I think we will see the trunks.

A lot of fans wanted wings that stick out and more of Cap's classic costume. Same goes with Thor. It's the same purist argument that supports red undies. Just because there is a lack of good briefless designs doesn't mean it's not possible.

I don't know why you think Zack Snyder will guarantee red briefs. Look at the way he cast Lois Lane and General Zod. Those are hardly safe or classic interpretations. He has repeatedly expressed an intent to modernize and make something different.

He also said that they're operating as though there has never been a movie about Superman made, and, if this is to be regarded in such a way, I doubt they'd drastically alter a costume that has been in place for decades.

Because Snyder has shown a devotion to stick to the original material.

Amy Adams and Michael Shannon aren't odd choices at all. They're both highly respected actors, and Adams is very popular among the female demographic. Visually, they do not differ from the characters much at all. Adams just needs to dye her hair and if Shannon grows a beard, he will look like the most popular interpretations of Zod.

Visually I agree with Llama Shepherd in that I don't find you're design aesthetically pleasing (espescially the boots), altough I think it's a fine enough manip and fair play to you for trying something different.

The Superman suit "long johns, red briefs, and galoshes" has been with us and endured for 70 odd years so design wise something must be right with it. It is also so iconic and so recognizable around the world far more so then any other superhero costume.

It is possible to re-imagine the suit without the red trunks (there are plenty of good designs like that on the web) but if Snyder decides to go that way that he has to make it so good, so iconic that it makes us forget the original design, no easy task.

That inadvertedly made my point. All the past Supermans all have used the same classic costume layout.

You can't honestly say Amy Adams and Michael Shannon were screaming Lois Lane or Zod to you. I'm not saying that they'll be bad at portraying the characters. They're not conventional or expected choices.

I find that an unrealistic expectation. Iconic is not necessary. It has to be recognizable as Superman just like any other redesign, but only time and repetition makes things iconic.

Well, I never thought about who should be Lois. Michael Shannon I wanted to be Luthor. But when he was cast as Zod I knew he could pull it off. Same with Adams.

Exactly an unrealistic expectation, but one that has to be achieved when changing something so globally recognizable. Also time & repetition do not make something iconic, it has to be good in the first place (& iconic :yay:).

hey fanboii, where did you come up with the S shield design? I've seen something similar before. I'll post it if you want

You might find it an unrealistic expectation but it is indeed the reality of the situation. You can't replace iconic with adequate or recognizable just for the sake of updating it. Given Snyder's track record, I fully expect him to be pretty faithful and that the trunks will be there so all this is really a moot point.

Heath Ledger didn't scream Joker either, nor did Michael Keaton scream Batman as you put it. Yet they did more than great, spectacular in fact. Lets just have the film makers who are paid to do this and know their art do what they think is right. The movie is not being made by a committee of fans after all.

This is the Fan Art and Manips thread, if people have forgotten. We have character threads to discuss your likes and dislikes regarding casting. Stop the off-topic stuff and get back to what this thread was opened for.

oh, okay. I remember seeing another S l like it, although a little different

No offense Man of Steel, but I've seen better acting in community theater than what Routh did. Sure, the script sucked, but his stiff, deer-in-the-headlights performance did nothing to help the film. I thought he was actually worse than Bosworth, who was really only annoying because she was written as a total b**ch and was too young for the role. But at least she HAD something of a character.

Routh just looked like a guy who couldn't believe he was on camera.

Routh's a nice guy and for that I like him... but he couldn't act to save his soul. Just watching the commercials for Dylan Dog shows that much.
