The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Official TASM2 Costume Thread!! - Part 1

Can't wait to hear any quips on his new suit being noticed..if any. :]

TV ANCHOR: We were surprised today by Spider-Man's unveiling of a brand new suit, but apparently not as surprised as Spidey himself. Just look at those eyes! He looks utterly shocked!

JAMIE FOXXXXXXXX: He will be... He ... Will... Be.

Lol is it wrong that up til I was about 9 I though Michael J. Foxx and Jaime Foxx were the same person?

Meh, I don't know. The best parts of the Raimi films were the ones where the regular folks helped Spidey.

Best parts? They were far and away the worst parts and frankly it's the same in ASM. Crane dad had me rolling my eyes and I don't even consider myself a cynical person.

It was an amazing visual, btw, you're right. Which made the fact that they hadn't earned it all the more frustrating.

There had to be a less clunky way of getting Spidey to swing to Oscorp.
The scene of the bridge with Crange dad and his son was so touching and all of that good will went away with the frankly riduclous crane scene.

That scene in SM2 with everyone on that train seeing Peter's face was pretty silly.

The people on the train scene at least to me felt 'earned' as Spidey totals himself to stop the train and they were right there in peril. I could see myself action in a similar many if there were a Spider-Man and he saved a train I was on. I personally wouldn't use my camera phone out of respect (but you just know 'someone' would).

So, New York cheese in the order they annoyed me most.

1. Crane dad.
UGH. Nuff said.

2. 'You mess with Spidey you mess with New York'
Seriously you couldn't have one guy throw his shoe and then hightail it out of there. You just witness the GG blow up the cable car control room what's to say he wouldn't blow up the entire bridge WITH YOU ON IT.

3. Train crowd
I quite liked this scene.

Yeah, I'm not saying I didn't like the scene, I just have to admit that it was just pretty silly overall.

The running theme is even though the media (Bugle) hate him and the police are after him the people of New York still stick up for him, it's a nice message (if overused) but there has to be far less clunky was of putting it into practice.

For instance, Spidey is handed his arse by Electro and hightails it out of there and has a touching moment with a New Yorker who tells him not to give up and even though it may cost him (Spidey) his life it's the right thing to do.
I'd accept that far more redily than a crane dad who organises a row of cranes at night, on top of roof tops while a city is being evcuated. That's less plausible then a guy who sticks to walls.

What was clunky about it? IMO, it was an excellent (and I agree, a little cheesy) scene.

It wasn't like New York was backing him. It was one man who had seen spidey first hand risked his life to save his son. And he felt he could do something.

It was him who got the ball rolling. It wasn't like all of New York where lining up to help.

It's why that scene worked more than the others IMO. It was more personal. That someone sees him as a hero and is helping him, especially after all the police hunting and the like.

oh, and the costume looked great (costume comment :D)

I don't get why that GG vs People throwing stuff gets so much hate. Spidey is a blue collar hero. In New York.

And yeah, it came out the year after 9/11. It's totally credible and totally in keeping with the character and the tone of that picture.

The best thing about the SM2 train scene was when they're just shocked he's a kid. Like, you kind of forget that as a viewer following the character. You know it intellectually, but (especially in Raimi's version) it can drop off the radar since everyone looks so old.

So that's the best bit, having the characters on screen remind you "Hey, this kid saves the day ALL THE TIME - and he's like 19.

The TobeyChrist imagery is sufficiently epic, but the truth is it suffers from the same problem the rest of SM2 does : it's a touch too hollow, or in service of very little other than its own supposed epicnesss.

It gets hate because its ridiculously cheesy and stupid. Even though it was right after 9/11 I still thought it was dumb.

Strange it gets hate here. It got cheers in the theatre every screening I attended.

I mean, I can see the "cheese" but I also had my eyes open for he entire movie before that scene. So it felt of the same cloth. It's a confusing moment to pick as the example of cheesiness.

Oh well. Certainly not the only S-M on film issue I'm in the minority in on SHH!

The landing infornt of the flag in SM3 although the smallest was the one that stood out most for me, so very jarring and obvious with little even attempt to justify it.

ASM crane thing was a bit odd, they didn't really pull it off fantastically but at least some cool stuff came out of it I guess.

The S-M2 train one I had no real problems with other than it was a bit long and the overhead passing of him seemed a bit excessive but that's only when you REALLY think about it, in the context of the film it's not so bad.

I don't see the problems with the crane scene.

The scene in SM was fine to me since it came out a year after 9/11 it just has aged horribly which can be said for the entire film as well.

I cringed out loud during the crane scene, truly terrible. The worst out of the many unintentionally awkward moments in the film.

I certainly don't remember the same amount of groans and laughter as there was for him landing in front of that giant billowing flag in S-M3

That was by far the worst one for me.

Agreed. The flag thing pushed it too far. I dig the Raimi post 9/11 optimism and community vibe in the trilogy, but geez. That flag shot was awful.

I found alot of people not fond of the Sm2 and Sm3.

Not much issue with the SM1 and not an issue with the cranes.
