The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Official TASM2 Costume Thread!! - Part 1

Then again, I think SM1 > SM2 by a mile, so what do I know.

A few people think this. Personally speaking I think SM2 destroys Spider-Man 1. I think SM1 is mearly but SM2 is one of the best superhero movies ever. After all this time it's still in my top 3 superhero movies of all time.

The CGI is chintzier which is strange. It takes itself too seriously and Raimi can't hack it, so it gets maudlin. The MJ/Pete relationship circles around the same two character beats sixteen times. Molina is good, but his motivation is hammy and kind of slight. He's pretty dour as well. Every rewatch, the thing just drags and drags more than before.

SM2 the first time I saw it was the best superhero movie in the world. I geeked out hard. Then I saw it again... Hmm. Well maybe it's not THE best... And every time it has slipped further down.

SM1 has a couple problems, but it is raw, kicky, fun, and full of heart. SM2 is overfull, and mostly of itself.

But I understand I'm in the minority here. Just seemed like it was ... Ahem... Swinging for the fences. Hits a solid double. But it's no homerun for me.

Dafoe pleading with Maguire while positioning the glider behind him > Anything Molina tried his best to do.

I ****ing love it...
This is probably the best Spidey costume of all the movies, imo. It's pretty accurate to the comics as well, with the rounder more Bagley/Romita eyes, pronounced webs (but not too much, inb4 Raimi.) and bold colors.
If there was one thing I could add to it, would be the webbed armpits. But I can't wait to see it in action.

I am extremely thankful not to have webbed armpits, personally I find them ridiculous-looking and a major put-off.

Eh... to each is own. I like them, but even if they weren't in I still love this new costume.

I dig the webs beneath the arms, and think they are fun, but they'd probably look terrible on film.

His eyes have not been the same through out the comics. They too have gone through some change.

IMO, the Raimi/Webb eyes suit the live action approach to spidey a lot better than these. BUT, I need to see this thing in action before passing final judgement... dun dun duuuun :p

I was always a fan of the small eyes. Especially the way Dell'otto draws him. I prefer Spidey more dangerous and creepy looking.

That. But I also think just from a visual perspective, far more interesting on film. AGAIN, I need to see how the bigger eyes look on film. We all do really :)

They'll probably look terrific on film, and I don't mind they went with the bigger eyes. Personal preference are just the small ones.

I think the smaller eyes suit the more aggressive tone of Webb's first go-round. I think these costume changes may represent a shift (though not a radical one) in tone. I dug the look of ASM because this was a pissed off kid wanting to get revenge. You may not like that Spidey, but the look suited him.

He's much more your "friendly neighborhood..." With these bigger eyes.

That's the biggest thing I'm worried about. A shift on tone. I want a consistent feeling/looking world, as I loved TASM. I see what you're saying that Pete is not out for revenge. But he's going to have some trials in Webbs films. Some dark times no doubt. So the TASM tone is still viable in this series. :)

I guess with the costume change he's taking up more of a "Big Time Super Hero" mantle.

Oh I don't expect Webb to all of a sudden turn his world into a Raimi cheesefest. Just that we will have more Spidey in the daylight, more Spidey-as-symbol-of-hope. Spidey as helper, not hunter.

I hope, at least. Though Electro seems primed for more night-fights.

I don't want that lol. I want spidey to be seen as a hate figure by the public. I love that this kid sacrifices his own well being to help the innocent, but the public hate him (for the most part).

I mean, is that comic-accurate? I just don't seem to remember people being openly aggressive to Spidey, at least the majority of folks. I know the Bugle tries to crap on him, but folks seem to like him usually.

Yeah. I mean, there should be those out there that are for Jameson's whole Anti-Spidey campaign, but there should still be those people out there who see him as a symbol of hope. I mean, why should everyone hate him? He saved the entire city from being transformed into an army of mutant lizards.

I really like the new costume. I do have some nitpicks though:

I liked the flat webbing, it would've looked better imo. They also could've not gone exact classic costume, maybe some cutting up in the belt area or something else that's edgy but still subtle enough so the classic design shines through

for last, this is not exactly a complaint, but I did really like the shape of the last eyes. I would've gone for even thinner and more vicious (white lenses) for the sequel, but then again, I do hold a special place for the really big bagley eyes in my heart... I really don't know which I prefer

He's not batman. He was never a symbol of hope. He was never looked upon fondly in the comics by alot of people. This was due to JJ's propaganda against him.

All I'm saying is, I don't want to see this 'we all love spidey' stuff. I hated that in the Raimi films. I want him to feel the strain of being a hero. Especially one that is not trusted by the people.

He's saved the city and stopped criminals many times in the comics, but thanks to the media and at times being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but him in a bad light. Twisted the truth. He is not liked/admired by people. Sure, some see past the lies and see the truth. That he is a hero. That's what I also liked at the end of TASM. With the grafitti guys. That there are people who believe in him. But I hope he isn't this 'symbol of hope' in TASM2. Not yet anyway.

This will just add to his character. That through all the lies that the public will believe, he will keep on fighting for them.

IMO, it's part of what makes spidey so appealing.

Man word for word, all agreed!
In the Ultimates, he was always struggling and stressed with the hero thing. Always questioning why. So I'd love for them to continue the bashing on Spidey through the media.

I'm totally with you, Nathan. This is the type of looking Spidey I love. But as Smegger said, I need to give the new suit with the big bug eyes a chance. It's possible I can love it too. Time (and some actual footage) will tell.

Yep. I ended up finding the TASM suit the best suit ever for spidey after seeing it in better promo still and the trailer. So yeah. Seeing it in action (or at least better set pics) will possibly change my mind.
