I'm hoping the sequel is set entirely on asgard becuase it's on asgard this the movie soars but grinds to a screeching halt when on midgard (earth).

asgard is cool, and i really love the asgard stuff, but i wouldnt say its dull seeing thor on earth. it is interesting to see how thor interacts with mortals. i would like to see how thor with his power will interact now. you are right though asgard is epic, kinda hard to compete with it.
i love that the realms are different planets, so cool.

It's not. Batman Begins, Iron Man, and Spider-Man are the absolute top tier origin films...along with the Incredibles.

Thor's slightly ahead of the middle of the pack.

^^^Your opinion there, buddy

Awesome movie!!!

This is as good as Ironman!! And i'm predicting Captain America will also be as good.

If they re-boot The Incredible Hulk in the same calibre of effects and story then we got Avengers baby!!!

Cool! He considers it the most entertaining super hero movie since spider-man.:awesome:

Yeah well, I guess he found lots of entertainment value in SM1. Wish I could've joined him. I only enjoyed it a little bit up until GG showed up to wreck the Macy Gray Day celebration and then it went downhill quite a bit with only the sheer brutality of the end fight as a small bit of an uptick in the films enjoyment factor.

I enjoyed it and while I think both Iron Man films are better(IM2 only slightly so) I would say I liked Thor better than TIH(still bottom of the MCU pile for me). In fact I would say Thor is the exact opposite of TIH in many ways. Branagh is very, very good at working with actors and there are some really great acting/character moments in Thor. But his execution of many of the action bits and especially the editing aren't so top notch. They're servicable, and that's all I can really say about it. Seriously, those jolting transitions were getting on my nerves. Maybe they just needed a better editor. By contrast Letterier isn't able to get such great performances out. He had an awesome cast so that saved him. But I've seen every one of those principle actors give better performances in other films so you know they could(read should) have done better but Letterier probably didn't push them too much in that arena. But Letterier is grand when it comes to filming the action scenes.

So to me the two are kind of like polar opposites.

Anyway, I'd give Thor a 7.5/10 which rounds up to an 8/10 on the poll in this forum.

I found Thor to be better than Spider-man but not quite as good as the other three.

Thor is far and away Marvel's best film to date IMO.

I'm curious to see what Ebert gives it.

I am extremely bias but I found Thor to be better than Spider-Man and Iron Man. I don't think it was better than Batman Begins but I'm also a huge Batman fan as well so figure that out. Ironman was good but I didn't have to fight the urge to almost immediately watch it again like I did with Thor.

The consensus on RT-
A dazzling blockbuster that tempers its sweeping scope with wit, humor, and human drama, Thor is mighty Marvel entertainment.
:woot:

I don't know about that but I love it as much as Iron Man and they are the top of the heap IMO. I don't love Spidey 2 as much but I acknowledge that it technically as good a film also.

Thor brings me back to the days of Iron Man. I also haven't had that much fun since Iron Man. To say RDJ's Stark is perfection, wait until you see everyone in this cast. Hemsworth proves himself not only as the son of Odin, but as an extremely talented rising star. Hiddleston's Loki and the character story is truly great and heartbreaking. Hopkin's Odin is perfection. Blending Asgard and Earth together effortlessly, Thor's arrival into the Marvel Universe is a well crafted smash hit with plenty of laughs, action, and story. Marvel is just making hit after hit (I consider TIH a hit too), and Captain America is just lookin increasingly better as the it nears closer.

Solid 10/10.

The problems with Thor is that it's best action sequence takes place at the 25 minute mark and nothing, absolutely nothing comes even remotely close to matching it. It's like the first Iron Man film. The second act action sequence at the village and then with the F-22's is the best of that film. Iron Man's showdown with Iron Monger pales in comparison.

Also, Thor's humility is too quick. I'm not saying that Hemsworth isn't acting genuine when he does become humble but it's just too quick. He learned but he didn't learn enough in order to earn that moment to reclaim what was his. I had less of a problem with his relationship with Jane than I did with his sudden humble side.

With his relationship with Jane, Branagh made a clear note to linger on the first time Thor lays eyes on Jane. For Thor, that was it. And with their subsequent scenes together where Thor sees how far Jane's willing to go for her research and for him, that just adds why he would fall for her.

For Jane, she looks at Thor as a subject at first but even that is a facade. She was smitten the moment he bid her goodbye and kissed her hand.

So, I don't see a problem with their love story, if that's what you want to call it. But, Thor's arc is not completely earned. We needed another two scenes with Thor learning more about himself and humanity for us to buy the turn.

How did he not learn enough? He met beings that he perhaps looked down on previously and learned there was more to them than he thought, and he made the decision that all life is precious. Dragging it out for another 20 minutes wouldn't really help the film in any tangible way.

The battle between Thor and Loki is more about an emotional clash than a physical one. It fits as it is what the entire film was building to.

I didn't say another twenty minutes. But for that middle portion of the film, another 5 minutes wouldn't have hurt either.

Add five minutes of character stuff in the first act in Asgard, add another five minutes of character arc in the second act on Earth, and boom, this film is up there with the first Iron Man...

It just bothered me after he couldn't get the Hammer, it was basically three scenes before he becomes Thor again. Personally, I needed another two.

And yes, I agree that the climax between Thor and Loki is more on the emotional side...which is good, but the action that we did get between them wasn't as big as it should've been. It should've matched the emotion.
