The Official 'Thor Rate & Review' thread - Part 1

Watched it again today.

Can someone explain the whole deal with Loki. He is a frost giant, but has a human form 99% of the time?

He's a Jotun(frost giant) but he's a runt. Odin did some magic schpeal on him when he was found so that he'd look like the other Asgardians(he already had their size down pat).

One thing I'll say about it is that this is a case where I can very easily see the sequel being better than the original ala' the Spider-man & X-Men films. There's plenty of room to grow here unlike it was with Batman Begins, Superman: The Movie or Iron Man(which is why all their sequels were worse than the originals).

Yeah ok...

Richard Roeper gave the movie an A, and said it's the most entertaining Superhero origin film since 2002's Spider-man. That's a tall order!

IMO he's wrong but glad to see he enjoyed it.

Saw this last night and it tops TIH for my favorite Marvel Studios movie. I'm more a general audience fan when it comes to Thor, I really have no idea about anything relating to his comics and I loved every second of it, Asgard just blew me away. I think the best part of the movie is definitely the acting, everyone brought their A+ game to the table and it shows especially from Hemsworth and Hiddleston they are both going to become huge stars. It easily has the best action of any Marvel Studios movie and I can't wait to him in action in The Avengers.

I personally did not think his turn to humility was too quick. The scene [BLACKOUT]where Loki comes to him, telling him his actions killed Odin I think is where he really begins to understand that he needs to change.[/BLACKOUT]

I loved the humor in this movie. I couldn't stop laughing while Thor is destroying all the Frost Giants and he's just a cocky s.o.b. Also the facebook line that everyone hated in the trailer, the payoff when she takes the picture of Thor is freaking hilarious.

Only thing I didn't like was the editing seemed really choppy at some parts. I don't know if he just ran out of time or what but there's a few times where its like wow did the projector just skip a scene. I'd say its a solid 9/10

Edit: Wrong thread

Regarding the chemistry between Hemsworth & Portman, I liked it. Maybe some have said she doesn't get much to do but I liked them together in this very much. Hell, every other time she looked at him you could tell she just wanted to rip his damn clothes off and go to town. Now THAT'S a Natalie Portman I like.:hrt::awesome:

Hopefully the "go to town" part will show up in sequel. :cwink:

Ok we get it, Thor's humility happened a little too fast, goodness gracious that's starting to get annoying (similar to IM2's "Avengers promo" complaint).
People are going to review the movie in a review thread.

Huh?How'd it go down? The top says 5 negative reviews but only 4 do I see in the listings.

Glad to hear that, especially after several posters on this thread said otherwise.

I always thought Iron Man's action was pretty pathetic considering the fact that he is a man in a weapons suit but yet we get hardly any action. I loved the Hulk's 3 main action scenes with him but during the Thor action scenes man he utilizes basically every power he has to take down his enemies and it is spectacular. I will agree with some people who say that the best scene is early on because it is, the Frost Giant action scene is ridiculously great. Fandral was hilarious during it and Thor just destroys everyone in his path. I loved the Thor/Loki fight, lots of emotion but they do go at it for a little bit and it is awesome.

Great :woot:

I can't wait to see it on the big screen and I'm pretty sure the Thor/Loki fight is alot better than people are giving it credit for.

It's not bad, but nothing tops the first Epic battle.

I actually preferred the Loki fight at the end than Thor and his friends Vs. those Orcs, but maybe because of the setting. That rainbow bridge was cool.

He just does so much more against the Frost Giants and they way he utilizes Mjolnir is amazing. It's just not comparable.

Well a battle with an army of Frost Giants should be more impressive than a one on one fight between two brothers (especially when one of them is holding back).

The battle with Loki was pretty awesome, he holds back for a little bit but then when he starts to fight back its great. I don't know if its like a Thor trademark but during the Frost Giant fight he is like spinning the hammer around his hand like bola while nailing guys left and right, that alone is better than any action in Iron Man.

Yea it is. I talked about the final Loki fight in spoiler tags on the previous page. Nothing too bad really, just wanted to spoilerize it in case. But despite lots of Mjolnir coolness in the Frost Giant battle, I prefer the end fight with Loki as well for reasons I state in that post.

How the heck is it the "same old origin story"?

Well, it is, in a sense. I'm sure I'm not going to agree with that reviewer about the movie, but if you're tired of superhero origin stories, then this movie probably won't be your bag of chips. None of these flics are groundbreaking. They're all riffs on the same basic formula, which not everybody likes. And that's cool.
