There's a rumor going around that Terry Gilliam is set to direct Half Blood Prince. This is just a rumor.

A rumor that will never, ever happen (I am not saying that I don't like Gilliam films - I love them, but he is dead wrong for this material).

As long as Alfonso Cuarón doesn't return, I won't be commiting suicide anytime soon.

Why? Cuaron understood Harry Potter better than anyone else who has directed thus far. So what he changed a few things? PoA is the best in the series on every level. Period. I think HBP is perfect material for him to come back to.

The PoA books is definitely brilliant, by all means. Very cleaver. But the movie...christ, Cuarón attempted to be brilliant, but butchered the adaption in every way. We need Mike Newell for HBP. He knew what he was doing.

Mugglenet just said it's just a rumor and here's an article from last year about Gilliam directing:

Veteran film-maker TERRY GILLIAM has vowed never to direct a future HARRY POTTER film after being passed over for the first two instalments.
The former MONTY PYTHON star was "enthusiastic" and "excited" about making HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE and HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE before losing out to US director CHRIS COLUMBUS.
And Gilliam has now declared Harry Potter producers have missed their opportunity to hire him and shouldn't bother asking him again.
He says, "They've blown it. It's dull and old hat now. It's soiled and sullied.
"I'm basically a jobbing salesman. I'm not sure what my next job will be but you can safely say it won't be a Harry Potter."

No, my post was referecing the movie adaptation. Read again.

I don't think Cuarón truly understood what he was doing, otherwise he wouldn't have made one of my favorite books ever into a terrible film. As a film (minding it's based on a book), just fine. But as an adaption, it isn't very good. Mike Newell is really the more sufficient directer to work on the film series so far. Therefore I don't see why Alfonso should return.

First and foremost, these are films and they have to work as films. I disagree with your comment about Newell. I think his direction was lazy and his decision to let the actors adlib some of their lines was not a good idea. Cuaron's direction was soild and he had a clear vision for the movie. I do not understand why you think he butchered the book? Sure some things were left out, but for the most part all of it is there. He trimmed the fat. The qudditch stuff is not nessecary to the plot whatsoever. It is on the side and for fun and texture. There is no time to waste in the movies and Qudditch is a waste of time as far as the movies are concered. Sure he could have given a little more attention to the history Maruders but it is not detrimental to the story. Like I said, as a movie, PoA is the best. It has the best pacing, the best acting, the best scoring, the best photography, everything. I would love to see Cuaron back in the chair again.

I would love to see Cauron back for HBP. I really enjoyed POA. I enjoyed them all, but POA is the one I've watched more than the others.

You seem to think I'm concerned about what was left out. I could care less about things in particular being left out, as long as what's there accounts for a good film. For me, it really has to do with the cleverness. Hermione and the Time-Turner, for example. I don't think much thought was put into making that all work out. The only thing I truely agree with you on is the scoring. While I did enjoy Patrick Doyle's score, he just isn't the same as John Williams. And Cuarón's direction sort of went into a gothic-like style, which is why I think Hot Topic has a merchandise deal with WB to license products.

But I surely did enjoy the film, to some extent. The beginning, and when Harry conjures up the Patronus at the end, those are absolutely great. Some of my favorite bits. But Newell's vision matches my own a good deal. So that's why I want him back. I just hope Yates doesn't destory my vision of OotP, because that's my favorite right now. Can't wait to see Alan Rickman's expression after pulling Harry out of the Pensieve.

Should they do a LOTR style extended DVD? I think so

There was also a suggestion before GOF came out that they might try a 4 hour movie with an interlude 1/2 way through....

Dumb Idea...

I just hope they don't neglect the importance of Snape in this one--I mean he was fantastically under-used in The Goblet of Fire. That, and they left out a very vital scene at the end--which would be when Snape shows Fudge the Dark Mark--and then when Severus and Sirius are revealed to each other, for what they are and/or were.

(And of course it'll just be ridiculous if they botch Sev's role in The Half-Blood Prince--but I don't put anything past them, really.)

Then again I'm the world's worst Potter fan--on account that I can't stand the brat. I'm a Snape addict, and that's all there is to it, really. I am also fond of Luna and Lupin, though--and it'd be great if they didn't neglect thier roles, either.

James Walters is to be Young Sirius Black, James Utchen will play a Young Remus Lupin and Alec Hopkins will portray Young Severus Snape in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, it was reported today by CBBC Newsround.

Helena Bonham Carter will replace Helen McCrory as Bellatrix Lestrange, as McCrory now expects to be "heavily pregnant" during what would have been her filming.

Care of Magical Creatures Professor Grubbly-Plank will be portrayed by 25-year stage veteran Apple Brook. Finally, Jason Piper will play Bane the Centaur.

Pictures of the new trio will be posted as soon as we get them!

I'm so glad they replaced Helen McCrory with Helena Bonham Carter. Because she's awesome. :o

Ok guys and gals, i got something new for you. Its a pic from a poster for the movie.

Yep Harry has short hair now. I do not remember if ever cut his hair in the book or not.

DIdn't Harry try to cut his hair once in the book and it grew back magically the next day (much to the charging of Aunt Petunia?)

He either has a dork hair cut or hair so long he looks like a hippie :-/

I can't remember stuff like that lol...all I can remember is the major plot details, just the same stuff they put in the films and a tiny bit more

I just really wanna see Harry rip into Ron and Hermione when he gets to Grimmauld Place. Gotta love the angst.

From what I remember, Petunia herself cut his hair rather crappily, and he hated the way it looked, so he subconciously willed it to grow back.

I thought it was Uncle Vernon who cut Harry's hair.

Uncle Vernon doesn't give a **** about Harry

So why would he cut his hair?
