I am undecided. I can see why he did it, he wanted to show his support for Iron Man and all that and go legit, but I think it's going to be something he profoundly regrets.

I took a look at some of the other polls on the net, and it’s interesting to see how much more evenly divided they are.

Marvel’s leaning towards the no vote: Yes/No is at about 40/60

Newsarama is leaning towards yes: Yes (varying degrees)/No (varying degrees) is running at about 55/35

Either this site is generally more conservative in tone, or those with opinions that are perceived as unpopular are less vocal. Of note is the fact that this is the only public poll of the three.

Anyone find any other poll results out there?

Well lets find out.

We've had 40 years of stories with him trying to hide his secret identity over and over again. Nos he has many more possibilities.

No, he doesnt. im not saying im against it, but it severly limits his capability for a normal life, therefore EVERYTHING would be spider-man orientated. no double life = cutting story opportunities in half, more or less. just read the "new joe fridays" column in ass-licking newsarama for the writers of the spidey books THEMSELVES to say there is no room for a private life now. reading that column is awful. they make u wana quit readin spidey, not be excited by the new possibilities

Yes, I'm all for it. It's been nice build up to the reveal and good character moments in ASM # 532. So far, so good.

The fun in the immediate future is going to be seeing a lot of the characters reactions to the revelation. How the rogues gallery will react, and from the previews it looks like a lot of the rogues are gonna react. So, I see a wild ride in store for Spidey. I just hope that they keep up the nice pacing they have and the good characters, continuity.

So far things are moving a HECK of a lot better than House of M has. Much tighter.

But hopefully the boys behind the scenes already have something worked out to put the cat back in the bag. If they learned ANYTHING from the Clone Saga they'll have a nicely constructed back up plan. But this is Marvel of 2006 and they have bungled things...but they've handled this event much different than the others...so I'm holding out some hope for it.

I've been looking forward to the unmasking for a very long time and it's finally here, so I'm looking to have as much fun as I can with this before everything gets changed back to normal again.

So, you think a retcon is on the horizon then??

Don't you think this was rather stupid of Marvel, to go thru all this, only to retcon it at the end?? I mean if they wanted to show what would happen if Spidey's enemies found out his identity, or if the heros had to reveal their identites etc, then they could have done a 'What if' mini or something.

Why go thru all this in regular continuity, and upset so many fans??

What i hate is that i just read ASM 532 and they dont justiy the unmasking. they justify registering -- there was no need to unmask in front of everybody, its redic. the only thing i can think of is that when you register it makes ur ID public, not just gov't -reachable. which is an awful act to pass, it was always gona drive the heroes undergorund and i know thats the point of civil war, but theyd never pass this act. pah!

Money, maybe?

I'm sure Civil War #2 was a comercial success. And got some huge publicity. In my country, the day CW #2 hit the stands, this things was all over the news, on TV, radio and newspapers...

Exactly.

They only care about $$$$$$ these days, not quality. Cheap shock value to attract lots of attention.

I think that with the recent talk from Joe Q. and JMS about taking Peter back to a Stan Lee-esque Spider-Man. Jeph Loeb coming onto an ongoing Spider-Man book. And Spider-Man 3 coming out next year.

And in FNSM with the current multiverse storyline and the "Retcon bombs", which aren't just a new thing I've found out....

They've got something they are working on. Whether it's going to be done well or not none of us can say. Most people on the Spidey boards are going to be venomously against it because they've been venomously against everything in the books for the past damn two years.

Personally, I see a big story that has basically shown Peter Parker why he's always been a solo hero, why he should always keep the mask on, and push him back to the everyman hero that he's always been.

Yes, the readers see that and KNOW that. But you can't just inject that into the character because the character hasn't really ever experienced what it's been like to be a full member of the Avengers and having your living expenses provided for you. Yes, they took away from the everyman, but it was a nice change to give another side of Spidey.

But I've viewed everything as just a big "Peter, it's always best to keep to yourself sometimes...".

This is where I'm HOPING they go with it and they seem to seriously be HINTING toward that. But whether they go that way I don't know...

I voted no. But not a hard no, more like a soft, gentle, "do you wax?" no.
