The Official Wolverine FAQ

That's where the money is.So don't expect too much action or violence.:csad:
Gavin Hood also said it was PG-13. As for action/violence - I saw the recent DIE HARD movie and that was rated PG-13 and I couldn't believe it. I swore it was "R" until I looked it up. I'm expecting stuff like that in this movie - I think I read somewhere else that it was going to be a "hard PG-13."

Action yes, violence too, don't worry. It's the blood and gore that won't be included.
I’m confident it won’t be lower in violent action than any of the X-Men films were.

David Benioff Talks Wolverine

Source: ComingSoon.net
December 12, 2007

While screenwriter David Benioff hasn't been on X-Men Origins: Wolverine for a while, he did give ComingSoon.net some interesting bits about the draft he turned about a year ago. Here's a clip:

I don't know what's exactly in the present draft of the script, so I'm curious to see it when it gets made, but yes, I grew up a huge comic book fan. Where I grew up on Yorkville and 86th on the East End, there was a comic store called Action Comics on like 84th and 2nd, and I was there every week. Wolverine was always my favorite character, because at that time at least, most of the superheroes were still these square-jawed righteous do-gooders, and then along comes this cigar-chomping, hard-drinking rowdy little Canadian guy and I just loved him from the beginning. It was the one comic book adaptation that I always wanted to do, and I really went after it. I went into Marvel and just really pursued it aggressively.

Update: Comics2Film lists that Louise Mingenbach (X-Men, X2) has also joined production as costume designer alongside previously confirmed designer, Kym Barrett!

Filming for X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE has begun! Production will take place in the surrounding areas of New Zeland, Sydney, Australia and other undisclosed locations.

It is unknown when 20th Century Fox will officially announce the full casting for the fourth film in the X-Men franchise, but sources say they’re intending to keep things under lock-and-key for the moment.

We’re not sure of the cast members in New Zealand (since additional casting for key roles are still taking place), but some “gorgeous scenery shots are being filmed”, and it’s expected for Hugh Jackman and crew to film their scenes very soon (if not already). While filming in NZ, work will simultaneously be done at Fox Studios in Sydney.

The Gavin Hood directed film will be in production all the way up to the Summer for a May 2009 worldwide release!

Jackman Spotted on the Wolverine Set

February 7, 2008

Blog posts are popping up on the net from folks saying they've seen the X-Men Origins: Wolverine production in New Zealand. Here's one from TravelMarla:

Saw Hugh Jackman running thru the woods today in full Wolverine costume. Apparently he is shooting a movie of the same name as the x-men character. New Zealand is doubling as canada. I went on a tour of the National Park where Lord of the Rings was filmed. Many films are made there. Wolverine is just the latest one. So that was the highlight of the day... We were in a van it was much like being at a theme park seeing him. He was outside the window. It was like seeing a lion at the San Diego Zoo. Although Hugh Jackman is mch better looking. But I digress.

And one from Kay's Travel Blog:

This afternoon we took a Lord of the Rings jeep tour up to where they did a lot of the filming for LOTR. We saw Fangorn forest, where Isengard would be if it was real (the backdrop for it anyway), the Misty mountains and other places. There was also a large crew there filming scenes from the new Wolverine movie. Hugh Jackman is in town but we haven't seen him. He took the jetboat ride yesterday tho, just a few hours before us.

20th Century Fox is planning a May 1, 2009 release for X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Wolverine: The Basics
We bring you up to speed on X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
by IGN Staff

February 14, 2008 - You may have seen what he looks like, but there are still plenty of movie secrets yet to be revealed. 20th Century Fox has given fans a first look at Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but speculation about the film's casting and possible storyline remain unconfirmed.

We've clawed our way through all the rumors and have gathered the basics on the prequel film for ya right here!

Behind the Scenes

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is directed by Gavin Hood, known for the acclaimed South African drama Tsotsi. Hood was picked by the studio after 300 helmer Zack Snyder passed on the gig.

David Benioff, writer of The Kite Runner, Troy and Spike Lee's 25th Hour, penned the screenplay. Rewrites on the script were done by James Vanderbilt (The Rundown) and Scott Silver (8 Mile).

The film's score will be penned by composer Harry Gregson-Williams, and David McAlpine is director of photography.

The Story

The Wolverine film is believed to be set approximately two decades before the events of the first X-Men. However, there may be a flashback sequence to Logan's childhood at the beginning of the movie. The story will focus on the character's violent past and his early dealings with William Stryker -- the origins of the Cold War-era Weapon X supersoldier program. The film will chronicle Logan's initial encounters with other mutants, including Victor Creed, who would soon become his nemesis, Sabertooth.

Featured Characters

Logan/Wolverine - Hugh Jackman reprises his X-Men role in this prequel that focuses on the character's origins. We believe the film will show how his skeleton was bonded with the rare and indestructible metal alloy adamantium during the Cold War-era Weapon X supersoldier program (a process he survives thanks to his mutant healing factor). In Marvel lore, the clandestine operation's original test subjects were members of the CIA's covert ops Team X, which included Logan and at least two other mutants that will come into play in the movie: Victor Creed/Sabretooth and Silver Fox.

Victor Creed/Sabretooth - We expect the introduction of Victor Creed into Logan's world to be similar to the comic book history. Logan first encounters Creed when the two are living in the same Canadian frontier community during the 1910s. Sabretooth intimidates everyone in the village except for Logan, a young man he suspects has feral mutant abilities similar to his own. He is also resentful of the relationship between Logan and an Indian girl named Silver Fox. Creed makes a pass at the young woman, but she rejects his advances. He assaults her and leaves her for dead. The first of many ferocious clashes between Logan and Creed then ensuses. Creed and Logan part ways, but are later reunited, their memories altered, as part of the CIA's Team X. We anticipate a much less dimwitted version of Sabretooth than was presented in the original X-Men.

Actor Liev Schreiber who had been linked to the role of Stryker (see below), is rumored to be playing Creed.

William Stryker - In the X-Men movie continuity, Colonel William Stryker is introduced in X2 (played by actor Brian Cox) as a military scientist who invented the adamantium bonding process that was used on Logan. You'll see Stryker again, albeit a slightly younger version, in Wolverine.
It was initially reported that actor Liev Schreiber would be portraying the character, but that's since been called into question. Rumor has it (source: CHUD.com) that Dexter actor Michael C. Hall is up for the role.

Silver Fox - Silver Fox's movie origins are also expected to be similar to established Marvel lore. She's was a young member of an Indian tribe in the Canadian Rockies when she fell in love with a mutant named Logan. But another member of the pair's remote community, Victor Creed, sought to dominate Logan. When Silver Fox rejected his advances, Creed savagely attacked her, presumably raping her and leaving her for dead. Unbeknownst to both Creed and Logan, Silver Fox survived the attack. In fact, she was reunited with both of them as a member of the Weapon X program. As mentioned, their memories had been altered as a result of the program's memory implants, so it's unlikely that they were aware of their history. In the comics, Silver Fox's only mutant ability is the regenerative power given to her by the Mutant X program.

Maggie Q was initially linked to the role, but more recently rumors of actress Michelle Monaghan's casting have surfaced.

Other Mutants? - There will be plenty of other mutants appearing in the film, however briefly. We've heard rumors of higher profile cameos like Gambit and Deadpool, as well as appearances by lesser known mutants like The Blob and Beak.

How do you think the movie's shaping up? Leave it in the comments.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine opens May 1, 2009. For even more, visit our X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie page.

So this movie takes place 5 years before he looses his memory? Prof.X says in X1, that Logan had spent the last 15 years moving from place to place, with no memory........i hope this movie doesn't conflict with the X-Men films.

Now This is Wolverine!

Source: USA Today
February 13, 2008

USA Today has published this first look at Hugh Jackman as Logan in X-Men Origins: Wolverine! And some quotes...

The film will trace Wolverine's past as he discovers the world of mutants and, ultimately, the ominous Weapon X program, which turns people into living weapons.

Jackman is tight-lipped on plot details, though he says the film will hardly be a one-mutant story.

Wolverine's nemesis Sabretooth "is going to play a big part in it. And there will be a good bit of cameos" of new and familiar mutants, he says. "But you can't give too much away, because fans are pretty hard-core. Their expectations go up a level every time you come out with a new film."

Directed by Gavin Hood and co-starring Liev Schreiber, X-Men Origins: Wolverine hits theaters on May 1, 2009.

Huston is Stryker in Wolverine

February 15, 2008

JoBlo has learned that 30 Days of Night star Danny Huston will play William Stryker in 20th Century Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He joins Hugh Jackman (Logan/Wolverine) and Liev Schreiber (Victor Creed/Sabretooth) in the "X-Men" spin-off directed by Gavin Hood and coming to theaters on May 1, 2009.

In X2: X-Men United, Brian Cox played an older version of the William Stryker character.

This film leads up to the events of X-Men and tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

More X-Men Origins: Wolverine Updates!

Source: Superhero Hype!
February 16, 2008

In addition to the news that Danny Huston is playing William Stryker in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we received some more interesting bits on Friday.

First up, and this part gets spoilerish, comes news from FilmSchoolRejects.com that we might be seeing The Blob in the film:

We got a note from someone who was on set this week while they shot test footage of an actor in a huge rubber suit for The Blob. The interesting part is that they made the suit to look like The Blob was about 800lbs, but producers want to make him bigger, something like 1200lbs. I did some research (as I am not too familiar with The Blob's history) and I found that he was around 500lbs. originally.

Also, IESB is now saying that the role of Silver Fox has not gone to Maggie Q or Michelle Monaghan. Instead, expect fellow Texan Lynn Collins (filmography) in the role.

Ryan Reynolds to Play Deadpool?

Source: Ain't It Cool News
February 18, 2008

Let's recap... Ryan Reynolds told us the following a couple of weeks ago:

CS: You were under consideration for "The Flash," correct?
Reynolds: Uh huh.

CS: Are there any other superheroes you'd be interested in playing?
Reynolds: Basically for me there are two superheroes that I could play. One would be Deadpool, the other would be The Flash. There are no imminent plans to do either just now.

CS: Why Deadpool?
Reynolds: He's just the "merc with a mouth". For me I guess it's a no-brainer.

Now, Ain't It Cool News reports today:

Anyone up for a little DEADPOOL?

How about if Ryan Reynolds is playing him?

This one's supposed to be a secret, but cat's out of the bag now, Marvel.

An awful lot must have happened the last few weeks (or maybe he's just a liar... a good one though!) It's not for a Deadpool movie though, but instead for a cameo in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Thoughts?
