before Green Lantern hits.And then the question will be how It holds up this weekend.

What does it matter? By that statement then the praise Super 8 is getting isn't warranted since the film didn't really cost $50 million. And X3 barely even turned a profit, because it didn't really cost $210 million.

You're wrong on that, JP. They SPENT $150m or more just making this one and you'd be lying to yourself if you think this movie could've used an extra $15-$25m here and there. Not necessary, but it would've helped.

No matter the numbers you'd want to believe, pre or post tax breaks, this movie was near $150m production and there is no way in hell that the sequel is going to come in at anything less than that. Maybe not $200m, but maybe $180m easy.

Vaughn can do wonders with $150. Like JP said $200 isn't necessary.

That is so true. Time constraints were his biggest issue with XM:FC. As he stated himself, they had to get everything right pretty much on the first try.

If he had had the same exact budget with the same exact crew but more time, the movie would have looked even better than it already does.

That is what kills me. The 150 million was obviously used incorrectly because of the short production time. Given another 3-6 months the same amount of money would of produced a far more polished product.

X:FC looks great as is but extra time & dollars could have pushed things even further. We're talking about a responsible filmmaker who you would hope could put the extra cash to good use. X-Men is a canvas that can be made as spectacular as nearly any other film & being spectacular doesn't have to get in the way of good plots & characterisation.

I'm not disappointed with the film at all, it surpassed all my expectations. However, if you want X-films to be made into perpetuity by the best people you need to have the super flashy shots in trailers and marketing that will lure in some of the Transformers type crowd while retaining those who just like watching good films.

20th Century Fox are moving ahead with Percy Jackson 2. The first film made $226 million worldwide on a budget of $95 million.

If they can greenlight a sequel to Percy Jackson, it increases the chance they'll make a sequel to First Class. They're obviously desperate for franchises

I liked Percy Jackson quite a bit. It is a bad adaptation like X-men movies, but was a solid movie.

Yes, all of a sudden I am not too worried about Fox not making a sequel to X-men:FC.

Btw, the name of the director hired to direct PJ2 is simply awesome - THOR Freudenthal.

Exactly why box office doesn't matter for now (unlike before Marvel started making their own films). Fox are forced to make X-Men profitable long term even if First Class or other films are not. They have no option to stop making films without losing the rights so under the current situation X-films have a secure future regardless of box office.

Desperate for franchises? FOX made X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: First Class because they wanted to prequels not because they were desperate for new franchises.

And its X-Men, ideas are endless. And BTW I watched Conan (the talk show) and they made fun of XFC's first box-office weekend.

Are you serious?!!? Berry hogged a lot of screentime, what do you mean she never owned any of the X films? I will be severly disappointed if either one of them returns considering how bad they were in those films.

She may have hogged a lot of screen time (only in X3), but to date the Storm character has not had a single relevant plot point in any of the movies. It's a shame that neither director (nor the writers) cared for her character properly.

Yeah this is why I want Storm back for X4.

X1 was about Rogue and Wolverine
X2 was about Wolverine
X3 was about Jean Grey

Maybe X4 will be about Storm

A lot of people keep throwing this around but apparently Fox contract versus Sony's is that they made a different contract with Marvel one in which they can never lose ownership for any reason. It's as solid of a contract as it can get.

Sony's also have very few chinks in it's armor for Marvel to ever get them back.

Although I'm sure Disney lawyers are diligently working in finding a way or they're just simply hoping for the right time to come if ever one of those studio is in serious financial trouble and they'd need to do some renegotiations with Marvel/Disney and this is also assuming Disney would have the upper edge financially at the time too.

A lot of what ifs and I doubt Fox at least is anywhere near that territory of disparity.
