The proof is in the pudding. This will be the least successful X-Men franchise movie ever.

But it's no good making sweeping statements. We need to know WHY and look at what went wrong, what didn't lure people as much as before.

Not if Green Lantern is a mega hit it won't. Not with Reynolds, at least.

If GL doesn't do so hot on the other hand, and WB/DC don't move forward with sequels, then yes.

It's not enough for me to hear Reynolds sound enthusiastic about Deadpool and saying it's happening. I'll believe it when I see it.

Fair enough but I haven't given up hope yet.

Where's the evidence a general audience would have responded more to a reboot?

And what exactly do we mean by reboot? Starting from what point, with which team? And does everyone wanting a reboot agree on the sort of reboot it should be?

And i'm not being argumentative, i should point out; I'm looking for evidence and answers. I'm curious, too, as to how the franchise will go forward, but even the fans don't seem to be on the same page here...

Never mentioned a reboot, but it appears that being linked to the existing franchise hasn't exactly paid off as well as predicted.

I'm very anxious to hear what the plans are now. I loved X1 and 2, but I feel like I'm clinging onto a dead series. Gutted that I didn't like FC, absolutely gutted.

why are some of you so negative?

we still havent seen the second weekend.

I think it will be better than X1. we'll see by Sunday...

"This is the lowest grossing X-Men film ever!!!11!!"

And? Seriously... And? What does it really matter?

It's actually had strong weekday numbers so far.

I heard they are projecting a 27 Million second weekend.Assuming they are correct
this time that would bring It to 100 Million.Bottom Line the better Super 8 does the worse
It Is for first Class.I have No Intrest In Super 8.It IS hybrid between ET and Cloverfield.
I never saw Cloverfield and even as kid I liked Star Wars better than ET.

I was kinda pissed when I got my new EW In mail.A full frontpage story on Super 8 amd EW hasn't done particul an article on First Class.

First Class will not be last X-Film.The Wolverine will be made.It looks like X-Men Origins:Deadpool will be made. It's just very likely any First Class sequel may not In favor for X4.It Is going to depend how both the final Domestic and overseas grosses are.And DVD/Blu-Ray sales may also factor In.I just hope DVD buyers aren't screwed over.

Well, X3 was the highest grossing. That must mean it was the best thing ever.

I know. From the $5 mill on Monday it was obvious the film would finish the week with around $74 mil. It's done exactly that and folks are freaking out?

The Wolverine was always happening. And we've been hearing about X4/5 since before first class even went into production. If anything, it seems like that film will happen sooner than later. Some people are acting like the franchise is dead and we'll never get another film...

I think one of the largest problems with this film was the marketing.

Nothing about the trailers ever made me excited to see it. The whole trailer should have been just the scene of Magneto in Argentina.

Seriously. Underperforming? Yeah. A disastrous flop? Not at all.

A ****ing kick-ass X-Men film? Hell yes. :awesome:

The franchise IS far from dead.It Is kinda frusting the lowest quality film in Series(The Last Stand) IS biggest hit.

We are getting 2 more spinoffs and a possable 2 part sequel to original trilogy(although how much they will adhear to the Last Stand remains to be seen) Is being discussed.

On the postive side Isn't 4,or 5 Million on a weekday good?

I agree Fox should have done better with the promation.

First Class should be called a underperformaning and not Bomb.

Now with quality do we finally have a good X-Men film to be excited about again.Hell yes.

There was nothing wrong with the promotion of this movie.

Everyone's been talking about it. The issue here is perception and burned-out fans and moviegoers showing a lot of reluctance to the franchise and also being a little overwhelmed by so many other movies coming out this summer.

I fear every hope of a sequel to this beautiful film dies with these ridiculously small box office numbers :(

I have faith that word of mouth will save this film. It's kind of a sleeper hit coming on the heels of Pirates and Hangover 2 especially since it's last installment was poorly received. I ultimately think with all the good reviews it's getting it will do modest but consistent numbers for a while.

There was nothing wrong with the promotion of this movie.

My general perception is that it wasn't marketed as heavily as The Last Stand or Wolverine, but I have no real evidence to back that up apart from my own overall feeling that I didn't see as much material offline. It's possible that they were trying to keep the marketing budget down, hence the crappy posters and reliance on Facebook.

Predicting the movements of the general audience is tricky. Harsh reviews didn't put them off flocking to Pirates 4 or Hangover 2.

I know a few people who are struggling to keep pace with the film releases this year (there are too many!) and who are also trying not to spend too much because of economic uncertainties.

I know three enthusiastic X-Men fans at work who haven't yet managed to get to see the film. One was going this weekend but for various reasons to do with childcare or whatever isn't going now; she hasn't managed to get to see Pirates 4 yet either!

Some people are acting like the franchise is dead and we'll never get another film...

I think some people who are linked to Marvel or Warner Bros - or who want the rights to be handed back to Marvel - might be acting that way...:wow:

The posters for this movie are some of the worse i have ever seen.

But you were never going to see the film anyway, regardless of what was on the posters. You and MARVEL ROCKS are among those boycotting the movie.

I will buy or rent this movie on Bluray, but I will not go to the movie theater to see this movie. The Marvel made movies will get my money in the movie theater. Not fox.

sorry, Uncanny, but First Class is a better movie than Ironman 2 and Thor.

That's just silly. All you're doing is missing out on a good movie while the studios pay no attention to your little "protest."
