I have no idea how First Class will perform. I’ve talked to people who are excited about the film, and I’ve talked to people who refuse to believe it will be any good, based on the previous two entries. I’m hoping word of mouth is good and that an X-Men movie will have decent legs for once. Even if it doesn't do brilliant at the box office, I think it could do very well at home.

Same here, there are people I know that have completely 360'd and are now hyped about this film, and some just wont give in.

I gave in, but I gave in really early. When news started coming out i was hesitant.. but its X-MEN! It trumps everything else that is Marvel for me.

The fact that it cost something like 30M less than Thor or GL(and 20M less than Cap) will work in it's favor. It's gonna need every advantage it can get in good reviews(so far, so good)/good WOM/and a pragmatic budget to help with the onslaught of competition it's going to face.

Are we sure about the $120m budget? It seriously looks like it's 200+...

^That's what I've heard. Till I hear otherwise, I'll not dispute it.

You mean 180'd right? :p

Boxoffice.com says "$125 million." Not a big difference but where did you read the $120 mil?

I remember reading last year that it was $120 million, so I guess they stayed at or under budget. There was no way Fox would spend more on this considering all the obstacles it has to go through (no Wolverine as the center of attention, all new actors, etc.). With a $120 million budget, I would think they would do a sequel if it made $350+ million worldwide, maybe even a bit less. So, here's hoping it does well.

I'm predicting 50 to 70 million

A X-Men: Second Class movie is possible if the movie sold well. But I'm not sure about a X-Men: Third Class.

With all of the good reviews and the possibly good reaction from the general public, I think a sequel to First Class would make more money. Like the jump from X1 to X2, therefore securing a third film.

But I'm afraid if Second Class performs like FFROTSS in the box-office/ Fox would not do a third film.

Uuuuuh FFROTSS flopped because it was an awful movie. I highly doubt a sequel to First Class would be anywhere close to being on that same level as the Fantastic Four sequel.

How much will it earn domestic...probably 200-225. Worldwide? Probably 400-450.

That's pretty good. Enough to warrant a sequel definitely.

I'll probably do between 150-170 domestically. It's not getting over 200 mil. Green Lantern is gonna trounce XMFC.

It will make more than 150 domestic. I think it's going to do better than Wolverine.

I pray it does better than Wolverine:word:

I'm keeping my expectations low.

If it makes 75 opening weekend then around 200 domestic is a lock.

I'd love it to make $75, but that seems unlikely.

It has good shot at 70 Million opening(which by the way would top thor) the big question
Is how will It do against Cloverfield 2(Better known as Super 8)

I'd love it to make $75, but that seems unlikely.

Aren't most places predicting 70-75? Thor is currently at 162 domestic and it will probably fizzle out pretty soon at 175 so we at least know X-Men will beat that...which means it will beat Wolverine!

I think FC will be one of those movies that will open respectively, and gain more traction as positive reviews and WOM continue. There will be moviegoers who felt burnt by the previous two X-Men movies, as well as the absence of Wolverine (who pretty much is the main star in the other four X-Men movies), and use them as the reason to skip FC. But I think eventually those people (not all, but most) will be curious enough to check it out if they think FC will turn out much better than they had assumed.

I think it'll do 150-200 million domestically, which is what I voted for as I didn't notice that the poll was for worldwide. Oops.

I think the movie will do similar numbers to Batman Begins since it's in a similar position as that movie. Great reviews, but it's preceded by two crappy movies.

how do you guys think the hangover will factor into this weekend?

I hope it will do well at the boxoffice, but I am afraid the opening weekend of the movie will be between 53-55m domestically. The presales of the movie are on par with Thor, which is not that good because Thor had the advantage of 3D and IMAX prices.

It will have to rely on WOM to beat X1 and Wolverine. Unfortunately, x-men movies have not been known for their legs.

X1 - $54 million * 2.90 = $157 million domestically (good reviews)
X2 - $85 million * 2.53 = $215 million domestically (great reviews)
X3 - $102 million * 2.29 = $234 million domestically (bad reviews)
Wolverine - $85 million * 2.10 = $179 million domestically (crap reviews)

What do you guys think?

Will this movie buck the trend and get better than expected legs?

Movie Projector: 'X-Men: First Class' will top box office but may have lowest opening in the super-hero series.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/ent...ce-but-may-have-lowest-opening-in-series.html

"X-Men: First Class" is the only new film opening nationwide Friday and is expected to top the box office with $55 million to $60 million, according to several people who have seen pre-release audience surveys. Twentieth Century Fox, the studio that produced and is distributing the film, is predicting a more conservative opening of $48 million to $54 million.

It would also be a less-than-impressive start given that Fox and co-financers DuneCapital Management and Ingenious Media spent a hefty total of about $160 million, before tax credits, to produce the picture.

The budget of the movie is 160m before tax credits. After tax credits, the movie is probably 125-130m.

I am getting a bad feeling BO wise for this movie. I urge the fans to go watch this movie otherwise fox will go back to its old ways of churning out ****** superhero movies.

My expectations for the box office performance are a little high. I know so many people who are going to see X-Men: First Class this weekend. I'm going to be really shocked if First Class doesn't make it to 70 million its first weekend.
