Movie Projector: 'X-Men: First Class' will top box office but may have lowest opening in the super-hero series.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/ent...ce-but-may-have-lowest-opening-in-series.html

The budget of the movie is 160m before tax credits. After tax credits, the movie is probably 125-130m.

I am getting a bad feeling BO wise for this movie. I urge the fans to go watch this movie otherwise fox will go back to its old ways of churning out ****** superhero movies.

Oh calm down chicken little! lol

The movie is going to do fine.

My expectations for the box office performance are a little high. I know so many people who are going to see X-Men: First Class this weekend. I'm going to be really shocked if First Class doesn't make it to 70 million its first weekend.

You might want to dial back those expectations. Even fox is not expecting that.

Also, even if it opens 70m there is no guarantee it will have great legs. X1 and X2 got great reviews but didn't have good legs at the boxoffice.

That 160m figure looks high but that is before tax credits. I am pretty sure after tax credits, the movie is 125-130m. I think X-men: First Class should cover that domestically but fox will be disappointed if this doesn't beat atleast Wolverine domestically.

It's upto the fans now to make this a big hit. If they don't, they have no right to complain if fox goes back to its old ways of hiring crap directors for comic book flicks.

70 million may be a stretch, but 55 million is too low. Regardless of surveys, we're still talking about the X-Men...

And I'm hoping that great WOM will contribute to some great legs down the line.

I'm an X-Men fan above all else, and this could potentially be the best X-Men film to date, so I'd like it to perform well across the board.

if Wolverine can make 85 million opening weekend with bad reviews and word of mouth on top of the film leaking online before release

i think this film will do fine

Wolverine had Hugh Jackman and released on first weekend of May. Historically speaking, first weekend of May is considered good for comic book flicks.

X-men: FC is releasing in June. Not a good time for comic book flicks in terms of opening weekend. Oh and it is releasing after a record breaking memorial weekend.

Yea but it also has no other competition this weekend other than The Hangover 2 which will more than likely drop from the huge opening last week.

I can't see Super 8 being that much of a threat. Green Lantern will be the next major competition in 2 weeks, but that's not guaranteed to be a hit either.

^from what i hear super 8 is'nt tracking very well green lantern is but GL does'nt come out for a bit still

I think X-Men FC will bring in about 380mil WW and 175mil dometicly

I'm an idiot, I finally voted in the poll but voted thinking of domestic instead of worldwide and voted 100-150! Eek!

I certainly think it'll make more than that worldwide.

No Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and a completely different cast. That's why I imagine it's not tracking as well as the other X-men movies. Shame because most people claim it to be the best entry in the series but it may not do very well in the box office.

Who's Hugh Jackson?

sorry meant Jackman

How the hell is Green Lantern tracking well? The American people can't be that susceptible to cheese can they???

Just scouted the midnight crowds at two locations and they look very promising. That's a very good sign. I can gage a lot by comparing it to midnight crowds of the past. Better than Wolverine and about the same as Iron Man 2. That won't hold but I'm feeling breaking that $70 million opening mark is very doable at this point. In fact, I'd bet on it given the percentages.

My 10:30am show was surprisingly crowded this morning. Hope it's a good sign.

^ That's pretty good considering the lack of 3D and IMAX prices boosting the gross. Thor did similar number with Imax and 3d help.

Also, last night was the NBA finals. That could have affected its gross as the it appeals to the same demo.

We will find out tomorrow, how it did today overall.

It did better than Thor and that movie had 3D and IMAX help. I think it will do between 60-70 this weekend.

You're not the only one who misread the topic title. I selected $200-250 million thinking of domestic, but add about $100-120 million to that and that's my prediction for worldwide.

Yea that surprised me too considering supposed big markets like Vancouver didn't even play this movie at midnight.

Seeing this tonite after school. Very X-cited. :)
