Or any sense of scope.
I'm not too surprised at the 56 mil opening, considering the fact that it can't be treated as just another X-Men movies with several factors to keep in mind:
1) New cast, relatively unknown
2) It's a prequel/reboot set in the 60's
3) No Wolverine (it's a good thing for me but probably not to GA)
4) New director
I think it is more important to make sure it is a good, solid movie with generally positive reviews, and FC seems to have these bases covered. Fox will not give up the X-Men franchise anyway, so unless they decided to make X4 (which would be a terrible idea), I think a sequel is inevitable.
THERE WILL BE A SEQUEL.
can we stop the discussion already?
t:
as "bad" as this film performed, how "badly" do people think a sequel to it will perform, I mean using sequel logic that is.
Fox understands this.
More over, they don't want to lose the rights to Marvel of all people so why on earth would they not make a sequel to a praised solid bank films such as this?
Cause it didn't make 15mill more opening weekend?

It is a shame that Ratner got a notch on his belt for X3, whereas this film didn't get the push of "threequel" that film did.
X4 would do much much better, definetly.
they have such a great cast and the general audience loved it, so the expectation would be high, after all these years, even if X3 was worse.
Yeah, aside from the fact that X3 was a lousy movie, it also made any sequel after that problematic because it'll be forced to reverse several important things from that movie, such as the death/rebirth of Prof. Xavier, the whole mutant cure thing (hinted by Magneto at the final scene), and the death of several characters like Cyclops and Jean Grey. Like Superman 3 & 4, I think it'll be a bad idea to make a sequel from and FC is needed to avoid the whole situation. And the GA will be even more confused to see FC and then later have X4 came along later.

According to ERC, X-Men made 55 mill, not 56.
It went down from the estimates, which tells me that like all the other x-men films wom isn't really going to help this movie.

I don't see it doing more than 135m domestically.

You can easily make a sequel to X3 without retconing it. You just have to be creative.
