I'm not reading the bad review because of the spoiler warning but could someone summarise for me what the reviewer found bad about the movie?

"Although to be perfectly frank, X-Men: First Class is a rock-solid piece of storytelling. It's dynamic, thoughtful, well acted and has a surplus of gingers. Which is always a wonderful, wonderful thing to have."

Storm22 the spoiler was removed from the review. But basically he didn't like the "cheesy one-liners" and that it was not a full on re-boot. It was too much like the other X-Men films.

That's pretty much all he had to say. The rest was basically a rant about it not being a re-boot.

Not that I'm expecting a glowing review, but I'm not counting that guardian blog post as a negative one yet. It's doesn't appear to be a review of the film and it has no rating, unlike the rest of guardian's reviews.

He thought it wasn't enough of a reboot, that it didn't do a Batman Begins and break away completely. However, it comes very close to doing so.

He also thought the 60s setting wasn't entirely convincing, especially with the young mutants seeming like a modern MTV generation.

Those are valid thoughts. i thought it could have been a little more 60s (especially with music, could have been a great opportunity for a scene with a performance by Duffy or Amy Winehouse in a club).

But bear in mind that The Guardian likes to go against the grain, they deliberately like to fight against popular opinion. I know this for a fact, I went for a job there years ago and they were so contrary about everything! They love to break rules for no reason than to do something different.

The article was amended to remove the spoilers, but there is still mention of them in the comments.

Thanks for confirmation that there was no rating on that article. I looked for it and thought I was just missing it.

Very glad to know there's mostly positive reviews so far,From previews and all I think it looks great But I thought it would get panned by critics for some reason!!

saltypopcorn.com (5/5) :

Most definitely the best Origin Film I have seen and on equal par for best prequel ever made - it is non stop AWESOME from go to woe and I recommend you bring the whole family to this one if they loved the first ones because this one is brilliant and has drawn the line for best film of the Blockbusters this year. Excluding Harry Potter me thinks this could be the biggest film of the year. Worth a rare 10 out of 10 for Salty Pocorn. Out next Thursday 2nd June. Bring on more of them NOWWWWWWW.

IGN - 4/5

X-Men: First Class is a big, ambitious film that bites off a lot more than most superhero movies could ever hope to chew. It rarely stumbles -- some might say it's overstuffed, but hey, repeat viewings to take it all in are what fanboys like us are made for -- it frequently excites, and it also feels. It's finally just the story of two men and their friendship, which is doomed from the start. We know that story so well, and yet somehow Vaughn has made it feel fresh and new again.

I wish Rotten Tomatoes would update faster. There's 30 plus reviews... only 9 are up.

Haha something tells me the saltypopcorn review won't make it to Rottentomatoes...

Came in with faith as soon as Vaughn was attatched. My only worry was Fox but they seemingly moved out the way for Vaughn and Singer.

Vaughn gets superheroes and how to adapt them. Glad he's cementing his mainstay with the SH/comic book genre.

Seriously, financial success or not, this is the most surprising blockbuster of the year. When they first announced this film with the tight filming schedule and all, signs pointed to another failure(since X3 and Wolverine were bad)...despite Vaughn and Singer's involvement.

Props to cast, crew, and FOX for once.

not exactly a review but I came across this article on guardian.co.uk. Seems that guy was set against this movie from the get-go despite the fact that a lot of people were impressed by the trailer.

Express UK
Director Matthew (Kick-Ass) Vaughn stamps his authority on the fi lm, perfectly balancing action and character development, humour and humanity, style and substance. A top-notch cast includes January Jones, Nicholas Hoult and a brilliantly believable double-act from James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. Summer blockbusters just don’t come any better than this.

Good catch. I just hope his is not an official review with that type of bias.

Still at 100% with 10 reviews in. I hate that RT updates with only one new review every three hours. . .

Did the first two movies get reviews this good? This is amazing. :wow:

Just saw another TV spot. I'm thinking it's time to start adding pull quotes from the reviews to these.
