Is it because Vaughn said that there would be Bond elements and that Magneto was Bond-esque?

Some journalist said Fassbender should be the next Bond, and now all critics will mention this on their reviews. It's so lazy and boring. Same with "Magneto steals the show" "McAvoy is good as Prof. X but..." and "The kids don't have much to do". Hopefully some reviews will be more interesting and intelligent than this.

Finally a well written review, the Variety one. It's good when reviewers aren't too dazzled by the internet and its trends. Solid writing; you can see that the guy liked the film but it's not trying to be too smart about it. Old-fashioned but I like it.

Agree. His writing is the furthest thing from trendy. I actually had to look up "insouciant" .

I love the internet and I can't live without it, but I have to admit that the hype and over-excitment surrounding certain things are killing certain movies for me. It certainly killed Inception, and is already killing the third Batman.
So far, First Class is in the comfortable position of not really being considered a hyped movie - it allows for more mature reviews, and for critics to look at it for what it is - a solid piece of cinema, not just some trendy, over-hyped by the internet movie. That's why I hate the Fassbender-as-the-future-Bond thing; it's a trend, it has nothing to do with First Class, and hopefully it'll disappear from serious reviews from now on.

I don't think it will disappear. Like you said, it's a trend and some writers won't put in the work necessary to give their authentic thoughts. It's write this one up and on to the next one.

"X-Men: First Class is the film that X-Men fans have been hanging for since X2. The tone is true to the comics, characters are fully fleshed out, action sequences are anchored by emotional motivation, and the screenplay, for the most part, holds strong. Now if only The Wolverine could pick up a director who isn’t scared of making an R-rated film, this decade could be great for X-Men fans. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

I find early reviews can often be misleadingly favourable.
I have my fingers crossed, this time around I've avoided all the t.v. spots and seen nothing but the trailer that played at the last UFC.

I knew this movie would be good. Matthew Vaughn hasn't made a bad movie yet and Kick-Ass may be my favorite comic book movie. Why so many people were expecting this to be the worst of the 4 superhero movies is beyond me. It will probably end up being the best reviewed of the 4.

This is why I haven't read any reviews or watched any of the spots.
I'll take the average into consideration, won't spend my money on it if it ends up below 65%, but I want to go in there and be blow away, see everything for the first time.

This is mostly why I stopped coming to the movie boards, past experiences have shown me I just end up taking away from the fun of opening night at the movies.
