The Dark Knight The Oscar Push!

I was surprised that Wally Pfister didn't win either. Slumdog Millionaire? I don't see what was so special about it.
to some ppl here, it's better than the movie they're suppose to be rooting in here for.... just sayin'...

I'm kind of happy I didn't try to keep up with this thread during the show...

about Cinematography...I think the big issue here(Slumdog hype aside) was that most of the work in the film was done either at night or inside. What was there looked great, but there probably wasn't enough variety/day work for some voters. I personally think it should have won, but there was some good work done in Slumdog as well..one of the few areas of that film that deserved the awards it won IMO. I think a few of you need to calm down...I mean did you really think TDK would win/deserved makeup or visual effects? Both of those awards went to the right movie IMO.

Anyway...

Aside from Heath's family, my personal favorite moment was when they cut to Chris smiling like a proud papa during Richard King's speech. I also was hoping Mickey would win, but Sean would have been my second choice even if I do want to punch him in the face most of the time

I was glad Heath's family thanked Chris first. :yay: And everyone they cut to during the Ledgers' acceptance speech were all on the verge of tears. Great to see that kind of admiration from his peers.

I had several favorite personal moments. YAY SLUMDOG KIDS! Kate's dad whistling to her was awesome. (And note - she DIDN'T thank Harvey Weinstein. :hehe: ) The Japanese guy who won animated short was awesome. "Domo arigato Mr. Roboto!" :lmao: As was the man on wire, Phillippe Petit. And Danny Boyle being Tigger was adorable as well.

yeah, I thought on the whole the last half of the show was much more watchable than the first

Jack Black still holds the best quote of the night.

i think ppl who tell others to calm down.... really should calm down. you are on a Bat-board, on (O)scar night, where another film, you might like, is beating their movie up in categories they think should have won. and you plan.... is to tell these ppl to calm down?

like your posts... this one will get overlooked too...

is Black still going to be in panda 2 after that quote?

BTW Button did deserve the SFX and the make-up and probably the art direction.

Is it better than TDK as a movie? No

In those 3 categories?Yes

But no way Slumdog deserved the sound mixing over TDK and Wall-E....and cinematography is also debatable.

I can't believe Ledger won.
I thought that those old hacks were going to give the award to someone else.
But thank God they saw sense and did the right thing.

The thing i really liked were the countless jabs to the academy...first by Hugh and than by Will Smith.

Oh come on...you cant seriously believe that the Oscars are actually chosen based on the BEST of that year, do you???

Sometimes they do get it right. Such as when DDL won for Best Actor last year. He was hands down the best in that category.

If they had actually gone with the award's name, which is "best achievement in cinematography," then I would have undoubtedly given it to TDK. Part of Wally's job with the IMAX cameras wasn't just aiming them or setting them up - lighting a set where the IMAX would capture peripheral lights that normally would have been off-screen is an achievement in itself.

But of course, there's the Slumdog train, and the fact everyone just goes, "Oh, best cinematography, okay!"

Wally Pfister isn't as robbed as Roger Deakins yet. He's still got a ways to go. :funny:

.

I'm just asking for people not to have blind love for a movie, because they then are no better than all of those that just handed Slumdog everything....TDK didn't deserve Visual effects, makeup, or art direction.

It's done! As Porky would say,"Th-th-th-that's all folks!" :yay:

Last week it did win an award for best fantasy costume in another show. That should be something they can happy for.

No big surprises here.

TDK was ignored as is mandatory by the Academy's tradition. Heath got the Oscar as a postumous homage to his tragic death (and brilliant career also I'd like to think).

Well I think it is politics and they were eventually going to give him an oscar just didn't expect him to die so early.

I actually thought the sound in TDK was a weakpoint.
