The Political Satire & Cartoon Thread II - Part 2

Yeah, but celebrities act like (often are) given exceptions to the rules everyone else follows no matter the detriment it may lead to.

Just for the potential civil cases I think it's safe to say that most of these events that are being tagged by the Conservosphere as flouting Covid protocols are being attended by those that are vaxxed, can prove it and have other mitigations somewhere along the line.

The various projects these performers and show biz types are part of can't afford breaks in production because someone didn't take precautions.

I will say I get the optics are bad and that since most won't think about how these are statistically safe gatherings or that the big entertainment companies wouldn't want anything to be delayed or shut down a lot of folk get the idea that "elites" are thumbing their noses at the rules. But I think the optics and the reality are two different ideas.

Wealthy, maskless celebrities (a category that includes AOC) are being attended to by masked servants. That's not simply a matter of "optics". That is a visual expression of real class divisions within society.

As someone who has rigorously observed protocols on masks, social distancing, etc., it galls me to no end to see these members of the ruling class flouting health guidelines they tell others to follow (see also: Barack Obama dancing maskless at his birthday bashes in a crowded indoor space, Gavin Newsom dining maskless with lobbyists at fine restaurants).

Right-wing anti-maskers/anti-vaxxers are probably the most obnoxious people on earth, but at least they're consistent in their total disregard for following health guidelines. It's the hypocrisy of the limousine liberals and champagne socialists that gets to me.

I’m not one to defend limousine liberals and generally agree with your point, but at least in Obama and AOC’s case I believe they were attending events that had mandatory vax requirements. Idk as someone who took it seriously I have also allowed myself some moments of public fun post-vaccine in relatively safe environments. Maybe I’m wrong

Which is fine as long as everyone attending was vaccinated, tested for covid, and checked for symptoms.

But for the sake of optics it is better that high profile people set a good example.

Events like the gala and large public events should always require masks. Too many people attend with different agendas and politics and its impossible to trust that everyone is vaccinated, tested, and being truthful. Better to just make everyone wear a mask. If they don't like it they can piss off back home.

My first thought was that the Nazi should have been disqualified and not been allowed to fight, but on second thought I'm glad they let him fight. Punching nazis is good for the soul.
