The Positive Thread

Should be seeing that tomorrow. Hope it lives up to the incredible acclaim

It really does. I noted Kebbell's performance here because Koba was really one of the scariest antagonists I've seen in a recent movie. Insane yet intelligent, sympathetic yet completely despicable. Almost as good as Serkis's own expression in the movie. And everything else is top standard as well. It's a lot better than I expected, and that's coming from someone who loved Rise.

It's like they stepped right out of my comicbook!

So filming wrapped. Where did the trailer go?

You are kidding?

Need to see some footage to even have one opinion of this movie.

This being the positive thread, I'll post something positive.

I'm positive Fox was scared to death to show this film at Comic-Con if the official word was that the film wasn't far enough along to show any footage yet filming was days from completion.

Positive!

So I just saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. After that film and Days of Future Past I think it's ridiculous to write this film off. Fox is on ****ing fire and like those two films this film has a good cast and decent director.

I saw that the other day. Amazing movie,

And I agree with your assessment.

You may very well be right, and my hope is that all we have heard is total BS....simply stated from actors that didn't know what they hell they were talking about at the time, or writers that seem to just like to hear themselves speak and see their name in articles, but really have no clue either. THAT IS MY HOPE....LOL

I also hope that they are not BSing when they say they were not ready for SDCC....though I'm not sure that if THIS REALLY IS AN FF COMIC BOOK FAN'S DREAM, they couldn't at least have had the actors there for a few hours to sign autographs (not even talk) and have a freaking LOGO????? That causes me to pause....and makes me think of other scenarios. :)

But, hey, if I'm totally wrong in my thinking at this point and it ends up a GREAT Fantastic Four movie, not just a really cool movie about 4 people? MORE POWER TO THEM.....I WILL MAKE A THREAD TO SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS.

I'm nervous about some of the stuff I've heard but my thoughts run to Bryan Singer's X-Men universe. I don't like a lot of the changes he has made to the source material (I hate the changes to Rogue's character for one instance) and I'd really appreciate if the X-films were more like the source material but if the films are good I can't really argue with that. I'm just practical like that. If what is on screen mostly works I'm not going to complain about the changes the way I would in a film I disliked. It's up to the filmmakers to not make me care about those changes too much.

I totally agree, and it has pretty much been my take on the whole thing.

I just understand where the long time fans are coming from, and I respect their opinion. I don't see it as "hating" on the project, as much as I see them REALLY wanting to see their fav CB come to life, and they haven't yet.

That doesn't mean I'm not going to enjoy the movie.

I loved the book "A Walk To Remember", one of my favorites, the movie was TOTALLY DIFFERENT, different time period, everything....but that movie was very moving, I cry every time I watch it, and really enjoyed it. It was a good movie...but I don't know that you could even say it was "adapted from" or "based on" the book. That might very well be said about this movie. To long time fans of this family, that is not much of a prize.

I totally get the long time fans negative knee jerk reaction to big or drastic changes to what they know and love. What I have objected to, and not always in the most articulate manner I'll admit, is completely writing the film off because of those apprehensions.

Most people agree that Chronicle is a pretty good film, it's not a controversial or polarizing film, most agree it is a quality film. It even has an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I hate found footage movies and I think it's pretty damn good. Most people think that the cast are very talented as well and most agree that Fox has made quite a few quality genre films since 2011. I just don't get how with all that going for this film there are people who have no hope for it's quality. Certainly the film could easily suck and certainly there are things to be apprehensive about but I just don't get how there are people who see nothing there.

I view those with opinions here about this movie fit into several categories.

It think with some they don't want the movie to be made so will maintain that it'll be bad. Even after they see it they have passed a point where they won't allow themself to like it. The movies quality won't matter

There are of course others who will allow themselves like it once it releases but are unhappy with the basis being UFF instead of 616. The actual movie will be deciding factor

Then their are those who are open to movies being different from the source or based on a version but are wary of the quality of director, or actors. The actual movie will be the deciding factor

Then their are those who value quality over accuracy and are open to the idea that the studio and talent involved can provide that. They are optimistic the movie will be okay at worst

I'd estimate that the majority of posters here occupy the first two above. The latter two come when news is revealed and there's more to discuss

This is what bugs me. Both DOFP and Planet of the Apes had presentations at the 2013 Comic-Con.

So it's hard to put faith in this one and say: "Well, they did a good job with those two so they'll do a good job with FF." when FF isn't being treated like either of those.

That's actually how I stumbled on that (apparently fan-made) poster yesterday. I was noticing every other 2015 production seems to have logos, posters etc. so I was looking around to see if I could find anything for FF.

I just want something that will make me feel like this is a real film and not a direct-to-video effort.

I can count probably 2 on here that are those that have totally written off the film, so much so that I question why they hang around this forum....and so, they get a little extra watching. :)

I can count probably 2 that truly are excited for this film, and then probably a couple that are going to say the opposite of the "main view" simply to get a rise out of the most posters. They get a little extra watching as well. ;)

But for the majority it is a definite wait and see with some that float a little more toward the positive, and some that float a little more toward the "I just don't see from all that I've read thus far that this will be the Fantastic Four movie that I had hoped for...and I can totally see where they are coming from, and I don't see that as a knee jerk reaction, I think as far as the long time 616 fans, this will probably not be the film they have hoped for since the 90's....

UFF fans on the other hand may pull out a pretty enjoyable movie.
