The Dark Knight The Rachel Dawes thread

I love Maggie, she can't even be compared with Katie Holmes. Katie's performance wasn't that bad in BB and she didn't ruin the movie at all. But it would be great if we had Maggie to begin with.

Rachel Dawes is a strong character and played an important role in BB.

But that's the problem with all speculation, given the nature of it (we don't have enough information to make any statement for sure, hell, we can't even tell if Bruce is really crying in that scene, it look like for me, that he is).

Only one thing we can tell for sure, if he is crying or if just disgusted, is that it has something to do with escalation and things getting worse indirectly because of his acts, while trying to make things to get better.

Katie Holmes is NOT prettier. Shes overrated.

As far as her dying, I remember this line from the trailer "People are dying, what would you have me do?" "Endure."

Ok, endure what? If its death the only 2 I could think of that would effect him like that would be Rachel and Alfred. But I think something else may happen where the city turns on him. Why else would Gordon be smashing the batsignal in front of a crowd????

I thoroughly believe that maybe the Mayor of Gotham is killed (the scene where all the cops march in the street could be his funeral). (The mayor is the guy beside Gordon when he's talking about the Joker's items "nothing in his pockets but knives and lint".) Maybe it's just a general death of random people that would cause Bruce to say that... it's not just his friends who's lives are important to Batman... hence the reason he does what he does...

About the smashed batsignal... I beleive it's entirely possible that that's Gordon who Batman's yelling at (in the trailer) where he says "WHERE IS HE!?" I beleive it's possible that Batman and Gordon get on the wrong terms near the middle of the film, then Joker sends a lot of Batman decoys to do evil things, and then the GPD thinks Batman's evil now. So Gordon, with the GPD behind him, smashes the Batsignal... at the end of the film, have Gordon and Batman become... aquaintances again...

But he IS on that funeral:

Opinions vary...Until Katie got ruined by Tom Cruise I thought she was the hottest girl on earth. Now...well...I have zero interest in her.

I even didnt mind Katies acting in Begins.

However, in this movie, I want great performances. I want these movies to be as close to perfect as possible. Maggie will help in that regard, so I'm cool with it.

You thought Katie Holmes was the hottest girl on Earth??? Hmm.

I'm happy that Maggie is playing Rachel in The Dark Knight; I don't know what people see in Katie Holmes, she could make an onion cry!

Man, back in the day I was all about me some Katie Holmes. I like brunettes with brown eyes. Its subconscious, goes back to my first crush on a cheerleader. Every girl that fits the look of that girl I think is smokin. She had a quirkiness to her and all..and...

Heck, I dont have to defend my lust! The point is, she was ruined by the tiny scientologist.

I honestly thought that she was gonna die in the first movie, but its nice to have characters stay to establish a little more city.

I think there is a big issue with the idea of Dawes dying in this film. Namely, how does Batman deal and rectify that? He is supposed to be a hero and save those close around him, yet as we have already seen the Joker is able to kill some pretty prominent types that Batman should be protecting. If Dawes does die at the end of the film, does that not call into question how effective Batman is as a hero?

Well, I think that's a theme of this movie. Everyone's going to question his effectiveness... and the escalation that he brings. This one's gonna be like the Empire Strikes Back.

^Yea but Empire you still had the heroics. Han gives up his life, so to speak, for another, and luke is able to save those that need saving. In TDK, it seems like there is so much more loss...potential of Dawes dying, the commisioner, and Dent's transformation. However at the end of the day Batman still has to be the hero or else people are going to leave the theatre wondering what the heck just went down. So how can that be achieved if some of the stuff we have spec'd comes to fruition?

Well, It isnt called The Lighthearted Knight...

And even if a major character dies, Im sure hundreds or thousand smore will be sved by Bat-heroics.

Well he IS gonna stop Joker when no one else can.

I'd love it if this happens:

"I'm the goddamn batman"

*punches Joker and knocks his tooth out*

*Joker laughs with blood coming out his mouth.*

Yeaahh!

... ''im the goddamn batman''

WOW that would be a horrible line.

on topic, maggie is a million trillion times better then katie holmes

I don't think Rachel is going to die and honestly won't believe it unless I see Joker gut her when I'm sitting in my chair in the theater as a fat sweaty old man sneezes everywhere and kicks the back of my seat.

Are we sure this is the mayor?

Sure looks like him. I'm thinking it's Loeb's funeral, and then maybe the Joker comes and crashes it and attempts to kill the mayor, all the while in police attire?

In regards to the funeral, this is what I've put together via various spy pics/info...

The Joker kills Loeb at some point, and it's clearer now due to the trailer. I believe he gets Loeb in his office, because one line states "Good evening, commissioner" (Gordon isn't the commish yet), and then in the next scene, we see Joker grabbing Loeb's face and whispering "Why so serious?"

So then we have Loeb's funeral. According to spy reports, there is a 21-gun salute at the ceremony, and Joker is dressed like one of the cops. He turns one of the guns on the Mayor and nearly kills him. He then runs. We can see scenes of this in the new trailer, as well.

Here's my own deduction, albeit speculation: I think the Mayor ends up in the hospital, badly wounded. In order to finish the job, I think the Joker, rather than just going to assassinate him, actually blows up the entire hospital (we've seen this, as well.) Hence he takes out both Loeb and the Mayor in succession.

I think Bruce may be reacting to those events. Even though Rachel dying would probably help the storyline (or at least the emotional parts), I think they should keep her on, simply because Maggie is so talented and could add a lot of depth to the film.

Definitely the Commish's funeral, thats how Gordon moves up.

When Gordon moves up, he blames Batman and his effectiveness, thus shattering the sign he created for him. Ashamed that Batman could not do more and realizing they need to stop all of this.

Therefore, everyone turns on Batman and he has to save his own ass as well as everyone else's.

Oh, and...
