The Reboot Joker

His crazy/manic and show stealing performances as the Doctor :D

Can I ask what everyone sees in Matt Smith? I have seen nothing that makes me think he would make a good Joker.

All I know is, watching his manic intensity that he displays as Doctor Who, I feel confident he could do a credible Joker, and he certainly has the look and the build.

See, I feel the exact opposite. I think I've seen enough of him as the Doctor to make a judgement, and all I've seen him play is an inconsistently characterised foppish hipster-type who occasionally seems to break that character by turning serious and shouting. Not trying to bash anyone for wanting him to play it, but I've seen absolutely nothing that would make me think he could play a competent Joker.

Then again, who knows? Maybe he could pull a Heath Ledger and surprise me.

I don't watch Dr. Who so I can't comment on his acting ability. But his face already looks like a mask (IMO) so I guess that's something? I don't know.

Seriously, his face reminds me of that weird rubber mask Ryan Gosling wears in Drive. Only with hair.

His notable role so far is, obviously, Doctor Who, where he demonstrates superb range and very observant character acting, as well as an innate and compelling charisma.

I see from the way you have phrased the question that you're not going to agree.

Well, I don't agree currently, but I haven't seen anything that sways my opinion. I'm not so stubborn that I would completely rule out an actor and refuse to even consider the notion of them as the character, but he is part of the reason that I stopped watching Doctor Who in the first place.

Strange, I think he's twice the talent that David Tenant was.

I didn't really care for Tennant either. Eccleston though, Eccleston was the man.

Don't disagree, he seems to be a bit on an awkward fellow to work with, though.

Yikes, I think Tennant and Smith are two of the hammiest actors one could find. Much prefer Eccleston.

I hope you're not just basing that on their respective Doctor Whos, since that part is hammy/manic by design. The Joker is also wantonly theatrical, anyway.

I'm basing it on Tennant's work as a whole. I'm not a fan. I've only ever seen Matt Smith in two other roles, and he was adequate, but I wouldn't want him as Joker.

I think Eccleston nailed the OTT aspects of the Doctor with ease, without appearing hammy. But I would prefer them to think outside of the box in regards to casting Joker.

What was hammy about Tennant's Hamlet?

Shouldn't be a problem if he's otherwise right for the part.

EDIT: Wait a sec, he's supposed to be 1,73m tall. Are you trying to imply something about the people this tall?:cmad:

No, not at all. I am no giraffe myself. But the heights given on actors' bios are always exaggerated, unless the actor is actually a giant, in which case they are reduced. He appears to be a lot shorter than 5'8", judged by pictures of him with other actors of comparable height.

The imagery of The Joker, for me, is quite important. His frame is quite specific. He should be tall, lank and looming. I realise that this doesn't describe either Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger, but it would be nice to finally see someone who is "dead-on" for the part.

Ah, I understand. Yeah, in that case you actually do need someone like Crispin Glover, only talented enough to rise to the occasion.

Go watch Eccleston do a comic book like movie in GI Joe. You'll have enough ham until Thanksgiving. Sad, but true.

I'd want a surprising choice again so...
