The Return of Bruce Wayne

Damn, even in the stone age era Bruce still knows how to look like a badass as Batman , Awesome cover .

Does he have to have that bat (dead?) on his chest? They're cavemen FFS. This just feels werid. I'll have to see how this all goes plans out in the end.

Theres a big power in symbolism just as much as Superman's S symbol presents Superman, Batman feels the need to have the Batsymbol. Sure they are just caveman but you try to convince that to a man who dresses up as a bat. ;)

I guess when you've had it for as long as Bruce Wayne, then it's just natural.

Haha yeah. :D I mean i understand your point, but in away other people have found it cool so oh well, but yeah "story" wise theres this big symbolism on these icons and so on. Bruce drew S-symbol and the Bat-symbol for a reason in Caveman times to fight againts Darkseid who was one of the reason men starting killing each other... Yeah this sounds all wacky and crazy but hey its comics!

IGN interviews Grant Morrison!
Return of Bruce Wayne & other info:
- Bruce has forgotten who he is and whatnot, but we will see him remember things and how to be the world's greatest fighter, detective and so forth.
- Morrison describes his Cowboy Batman as Clint Eastwood. Jonah Hex will make an appearance!
- Morrison:I love the Brave and the Bold cartoon, which really takes that aesthetic and runs with it
-
Pilgrim Batman will face witches.
- Batman won't be the same man after all these experience he's gone thru from 52 to now RoBW
- Caveman Batman will fight Vandal Savage
- Pilgrim Batman will be Soloman Kane-esque
- IGN Comics: Just so fans are clear, can you walk us through the six different periods you'll be dealing with? Can you name the Batmen we'll be seeing in Return of Bruce Wayne?

Morrison: Caveman, Witch Hunter, Pirate, Cowboy, Hardboiled P.I. and Dark Knight. <-- Is that Knight part literal? Oh boy!

- Anthro's family, Kong the Untamed, The Black Pirate and as already mentioned Jonah Hex will appear in RoBW.
-IGN Comics: You mentioned earlier that we'll eventually see the intersection between the Batman and Robin series and the Return of Bruce Wayne. When can fans expect to see that happen?

Morrison: It happens during Andy Clarke's Batman vs. Robin arc. We're doing a kind of Dan Brown-style search of Wayne Manor for clues Bruce has left in the past. The whole thing is kind of put together like clockwork with Andy's meticulous art.

-
IGN Comics: So when put together, does this all make for the final "book" in the series of Batman books you've been crafting?

Morrison: Well I thought it would be, but then this new idea popped up. [laughs] There's probably going to be at least another year of stories on top of this. I want to see how long can I twist and turn things without breaking them. [laughs]

IGN Comics: One last question that I know is on fans' minds: are there still plans for Frank Quitely to return to interiors?

Morrison: Definitely. I think I've mentioned this in interviews before, but he's had serious back trouble for the last six months and hasn't been doing anything other than covers. We speak regularly and he assures me he's definitely coming back soon, hopefully in time for Batman and Robin #16.

Now i asked a buddy of mine to find out who the Black Pirate is, this is what i learned:
Black_Pirate_Jon_Valor.jpg
In my research I found a DC comic character named The Black Pirate.Real Name Jon Valor. First appearing in Action Comics #23. He ran for less than 20 issues and then was moved over to Sensation Comics. He fought Don Carlos and adopted a sidekick, his son Justin. He was switched over to All-Ameican Comics until All-American Comics became more cowboy-focused. He eventually was accused of a crime and placed a curse on Opal City, that would be in affect until he was proven innocent. Eventually detective Hamilton Drew proved he was innocent.

Kong the Untamed is Anthro's son... And wikipedia has a badass cover of him FIGHTNING A DINOSAUR! :D This is going to be Outrageous!

Witch Hunter Batman for the win!

wow. I love the new batman and robin, but at the same time can't wait for this. damn you morrison!

I'm surprised they re only doing 6 different timelines in Return of BW. They could have touched a lot more timelines, like ancient Greece, Rome, the Mayas, WWII, ancient China, etc.
On the other hand, it might have seemed excessive if they did that, and besides Morrison said that each of the 6 timeliness deals with one aspect of Bruce's character, so all these stories make Batman a whole.

I want his stovepipe hat.

Greece Batman would have been awesome, you know why? BAT-NIPPLES!

Also take a look how the background is the same for both covers and Morrison did note they will be connected. Both covers so far show a hill with a storm over it... Will we see the evolution of Gotham? Thats kinda cool if true.

I think Morrison said that we'd be looking at Gotham's past and how it came to be, so i bet that's Gotham in the background.

Morrison is so AWESOME!

Here's a question to all you Batfans:

Morrison's Batman is all about scale. It's larger than life enemy versus the man who build himself as a god Batman, and now with Return of Bruce Wayne not only do we see the progression of Batman, but we also see that Batman has been there forever, which begs to question:

Will we see a Joker too then? In 1941 one of the very first time travel stories with Batman and Robin had them in ancient rome i believe and guess who was there? The evil Jester.

Now how do you feel about the idea that there always is and was a Batman? If this is what Morrison is having as an idea than Batman is an eternal figure and a mantle that Bruce has wore decades for and even his Father did. How does this make you feel? Is it going over the border with Batman or what? Is it cool? Is it awesome? Is it a pure sag of rodent ****? Ofcourse we have no diea what this is even about, but if Dick Grayson and Damian truly do we find clues left in the Gotham Mansion, that means Bruce just might have been the one who made the Wayne family so rich... Which reminds me of Gargoyles tv show, god i love that show. :p So yeah. Thoughts?

From what Morrison has said in his interviews it seems like RoBW is a deconstruction of Batman before he comes back. First of all Bruce has amnesia (he doesnt remember who he is, nor what has happened) and in each of the eras that he visits, Batman will need to use a different aspect of his personality and skills to succeed, with the sum of these aspects forming Batman as a whole. So i dont think he'll progress exactly, more likely he'll rediscover himself and find his focus and balance that have been so severely damaged over the years.
Now how do you feel about the idea that there always is and was a Batman? If this is what Morrison is having as an idea than Batman is an eternal figure and a mantle that Bruce has wore decades for and even his Father did.
I dont think that he'll establish a batman in each era he finds himself in. More likely he'll try to survive while also trying to do good and give people hope and heroic figures they can aspire to. What i'm trying to say is that i doubt that all this will be written in history books as if there have been many Batmen in the course of history.
At least that's what i hope, because if Batman becomes a historical figure of the past and his father was actually dressing up as him, then that would be the equivalent of Barry Allen being the flash that hit him and gave him powers. Which is pretty stupid (it happened. I kid you not).
Batman will still affect history, he'll still be larger than life, but to me it seems a lot better if all this is done subtly instead of "there have been 7 Batmen in the human history, the 7th being the current one".

Will we see a Joker too then? In 1941 one of the very first time travel stories with Batman and Robin had them in ancient rome i believe and guess who was there? The evil Jester.
Knowing Morrison a little bit, i'm willing to bet that we wont see Batman's villains adapted to each era. That might have been the case with some other writer, but Morrison likes to use symbolism and i think (and hope) that he'll put batman in situations and against villains that symbolize events and enemies he's dealt in his time. Perhaps he'll go through OUTRAGEOUS situations that teach him valuable lessons about his life, in the same way that Aesop's allegorical fables do.

And anyway, instead of reading a western/pirate/etc version of the mythos (which is very easy to do), i'd rather read about new and OUTRAGEOUS adventures of Batman in the past. Jonah Hex has already been confirmed for the western story. I'm crossing my fingers for Etrigan in the witch hunting one.
Ofcourse we have no diea what this is even about, but if Dick Grayson and Damian truly do we find clues left in the Gotham Mansion,
Morrison said that Batman will be leaving clues in books, caves, etc.
that means Bruce just might have been the one who made the Wayne family so rich...
He will be affecting future events, but not past events. As Morrison said: "you cant go back to kill your granddad because then you wont exist in the first place".
So Batman cant be responsible for his future riches, he cant be the mugger that killed his parents (because there wont be a batman and he wont travel back in time to shoot his parents), etc. So i wouldnt be expecting "i was the flash that gave me powers" shenanigans.
Is it cool? Is it awesome?
Return of Bruce Wayne sounds like the epitome of cool and awesome. Let's hope it lives up to the expectations. Morrison said that he loves Brave and the Bold and if RoBW ends up being BatB + symbolism, then it will be the best comic book ever.

Cowboy Batman is gonna ride with Jonah Hex :hehe: can't wait for this to start. Morrison is going to go wild ha ha.

Pirate...!Bat... wtf. And he looks so happy. Love the Batsymbol halfs in the background.

Connect all the covers and you get the top half of the bat logo in the background. :woot:

I have no words to express how crazy this is. AWESOME! but crazy
Now we'll end up with Batman being some sort of eternal truth or something
A symbol of hope, justice and all that stuff

Batman has become what Superman should have been a long time ago.

Also,
Christian Bale cameo in Jonah Hex movie please? :awesome:
