The Avengers The Robert Downey Jr/Iron Man Thread

I actually roll my eyes at things like that, it's pretty stupid on Tony's part and he gets his just reward when Loki throws him out of the window.

lol; true, but it's amusing to see nonetheless for me..I mean it just goes to show that you could either be the Asgardian crown prince or someone else of great importance..and he'd still talk to you as if you were some regular person.

Like I said I just find it stupid, what's the point of talking **** if you can't back it up?

But that's inherent within Tony's character and why he doesn't play well with others. He can back it up just not when he's out of his suit. He is just proving to Loki that even though he maybe a God, he's not intimidated by him. Obviously Tony gets his just desert but hey that's Stark for you.

The RDJ Tony Stark doesn't strike me as someone who would show fear and intimidation in a confrontation with anyone, even a powerful being like Loki.

Well it's definitely a nice development/character arc to see on how much RDJ's Tony Stark has developed from the very first time we saw him at the beginning of Iron Man 1 to now.

I mean back in Iron Man 1, when he was attacked by the Ten Rings, he definitely looked like your average guy that was afraid when being attacked in a war zone, but after his whole experience with them, he has shown very little to no fear when being confronted with life threatening situations.

He does? Dang. Oh well, that'll learn him. But personally, I love how Tony's so blunt and...shall we say tactless? Because he knows he's absolutely invincible. I guess that's just his natural jerkiness but I think it takes a lot of guts too, and the strength and talent to back those guts up.
Just sayin'. I'm a biased Stark diehard.

It takes a helluva lot more guts for Tony to stand up to a superpowered ***hole like Loki when he doesn't have the suit than it would to get in his face with backup. And what was Tony supposed to do, cower and beg Loki not to hurt him? That's not in his nature.

Not but it would make it alot more realistic if he showed a bit more apprehension when approaching Loki, he's a little too relaxed for my taste. There's a difference in being brave and being stupid, for some reason alot of people seem to get the two confused.

Just my opinion, no need to get up in arms.

There's something in what you're saying. He does seem very calm and confident. But then again, nobody would accuse Tony of being stupid. He knows he's in danger, he's just not acting like it. It could be just natural Stark cockiness, remnants of Howard's teachings to never show weakness (which would be enough of an explanation), but it could also be something more.

Maybe he has a backup plan? Maybe he's just pressed the figurative panic button and knows that help is on the way, he just has to keep Loki talking? Maybe the empty suit is in flight outside the window, waiting to receive him when he falls? Or the Hulk? Or Thor? We don't know.

Good points

I think the scene in the first trailer where Stark says "If we can't protect the Earth, then you can be damn sure we'll avenge it." is a part of the scene between Stark and Loki, so it showns Stark gets a little more serious in that scene.

Stark is probably feeling a bit of apprehension, maybe even fear. But different people display and deal with those emotions differently. Stark's way is to act defiant and nonchalant about it. Plus i'm sure he's trying to wind Loki up. Same as the way he speaks to Banner, who he knows can transform into a "green rage monster". He'll probably talk to Thor and Cap in the same way too. At first at least.

BigThor what would be a realistic way for him to act? Crapping himself? Visibly intimidated? See to me that would be unrealistic, because we know how the Stark character is and being intimidated in that situation would be out of character thus, unrealistic.

I think so, too. As is Tony's roll call that was in the international trailers. Seems Loki turns up in Stark Tower to confront Tony, Tony tells him who and what the Avengers are, that Loki has managed to piss them all off, and ends up getting thrown out of the window. Taken together with Tom Hiddleston's remark that "he has a sharp tongue, that Tony Stark", I guess there'll be a lot more talking in that scene. And suddenly, bam! :word:

I just love when people take things I sau out of context, I've already stated that Stark showing just a bit more apprehension would make it seem more realistic.

Actually, we need the whole context of that scene to make any sense of it. At that point u have to assume Tony is aware of what Loki is capable of. BigThor is right, Tony should show some apprehension. He is in a room, alone with a god who could end his life at any moment, yet he is wisecracking. Loki on the other hand also finds himself with an unarmed Stark. He has a chance to take out an integral part of the team thats planning to thwart his grand plans and yet he's having a conversation with him? Looking at the situation in a vacuum, there is no reason why Loki shouldnt obliterate Tony on sight. There's a lot more to that scene than Tony s***-talking imo.

EXACTLY :D maybe because he's got a Hulk.

Screw Black Sabbath. I wish this was Iornman's Theme in the movie.

I really like the scene with Tony and Loki. Maybe he is being a bit stupid, or maybe he's trying to rile Loki, or maybe it's just Howard's teachings, but it really shows Tony's innate security in his own awesomeness that he doesn't feel the defining difference between himself and a god.

At. All.

It actually reminds me a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog #182. (Props to the guy who's read that.) Best Sonic scene ever.

We love you Tony.

^ The hell we do. :D

Because he's--everybody now--IRON MAN! *repulsor blast!!*

I always loved the "I Am Iron Man" theme song, I hope it get's included in The Avengers or Iron Man 3 somehow.

Why is Loki there with Stark to begin with? Perhaps Tony knows Loki's not there to kill him at that particular moment.
