btw, also working on the front star... and my plan was to make this his modern day shield... same thing I am doing with my suit... the major change I am doing do the shield is, all black leather instead of brown, and a different mounting system that I personally like, and the front star will be slightly different. Both on my suit and on the shield, I will be removing the round "rivets" in the star corners. I think this feature really dates the design to the 40s, and removing the round "rivets" and bringing the engraved lines to a point instead. Curious of you all's thoughts on this. thanks

I kinda liked the rivets. Something new i guess. lol. But i love your shield and your ideas sound great. Me, I'd be happy with the colors you had before, but its your shield, not mine. :p

That certainly is a better shield than they even had in the Iron Man movie, right on!

looks like according to the new Avengers image that came out, I was right about removing the "rivets" in the design. The star on him there has none. Yay for my guess :)

updated paint, I think I like the shades now, blue is a darker, red is a touch lighter. :)

Now time to polish back to a good shine :)

and me doing a little bit of polishing before clear coat, give a good look at the red and how it looks when polished:

Ok, starting on the front star, and not sure if I like it yet... I'm using .060" aluminum and mounting the star on top so it has some dimension to it... I am doing this to make things easier on me. The movie shield has the star perimeter grooved out, and the star is not raised up like this... I could do this as well, but it would require me making some extensive custom tooling... which I just may do if I decide I don't like this... curious on your thoughts...

Looking for honest opinions, let me know what you think. Thanks

I like it so far Pete! I'm sure once the pieces are worked on a bit more they'll look even better. They look alittle rough at the seams wear they meet.

Oh, I should note that this is just a placement test, the aluminum for the star has not been surface finished or fully shaped and engraved yet.

yeah I realize the curve of the shield and where each part of the star meet will need special attention

I've got to say peterparker0077, I am really impressed at your care, attention to detail and obvious talent required to create something that freakin cool! I can't wait to see the finished product! (and your suit as well!) Just curious, what are your plans after all has been completed? A killer halloween costume...perhaps a comic convention outfit?

Thanks guys, what do you think of the raised idea?

Vartha - yeah, i'll have to curve each piece slight more to match the shield cure, this is main reason i went with 5 separate pieces over a single star... that curving is much easier.

Triad - I've been going to Cons for over 10 years now, Dragoncon, Megacon, and Comic con when I can get out to San Diego, but the most use this suit will get will be for the main charities we do here in Florida. From here in Tampa, to Orlando, and over to Daytona. I have a bunch of friends who started Costumers with a Cause, and we do a ton of charity events, from hospital visits to fund raisers for the American Cancer Society, we have something going on at least once or twice a month, if not more. And... it will be one heck of a 4th of July suit :)

Very impressive! If you are going to put as much into the costume as you did the shield...wow!
