He's doing his beast mode….he calls this one 'shrieking crow'.

Sorry- I had some time so I wanted to call back to this...

It still has lady-in-waiting sleeves, though.

Little gems like this redesign remove any regret I had about ditching DC after the New 52.

I can't stop seeing the resemblance of the new 52 SUPES'S face to that of John Cusack's.

This is why I avoid the New52 line, but there are still some great runs of stuff in the DC world... I am all over the Earth One Supes and Bats, those have been awesome so far in story and looks IMHO.

EW states the series was clearly gearing towards MOS fans, but in reality after reading the first one I was hoping the revers and the new MOS movie coming was going to work out very similar to what I saw in this comic series.

I think he's terrific and one of my favorites, but it depends on the characters he's chosen for.
I don't mind him. He's an acquired taste while also keeping in mind that are other artists who draw better.

I think that's largely subjective, but I also think that style and composition come into play as well, even though some artists may be more anatomically correct/stylized, etc. Some feel that someone like Jim Lee draws people better but I find his work incredibly antiseptic and generic, and I'd take Romitas' artwork as a whole over Lee's any day of the week. I think Romita is both subjectively and objectively better, but I realize that it really boils down to taste.

Right just as I prefer Lee over Romita, in the end it's all about personal taste.

I'm honestly curious how some of these designs leave the concept table.

I can only just barely tolerate The Joker's new WW2 haircut, but these Superman designs are some seriously ugly ****.

I still maintain that it's an improvement over the original new 52 costume. It might appear ugly to some due to Romita's art, but if Jim Lee, Ivan Reis, Ardian Syaf, or Jason Fabok drew it, I think opinions will sway in the other direction.

It's by John Romita JR. and yes he always has that crude art style.

It's like John Romita Jr. draws everything with a ruler. So much straight lines.

He wasn't always like that. His artwork has changed over the years. Back when he used to draw for Iron Man, his artwork looked more refined and less scratchy. Sure, Bob Layton inked over it and changed the appearance, but you could still see JRJR's style underneath, and it looked more elegant. He was the artist on the classic "Demon in a Bottle" storyline. Then it became much more scratchy with straighter lines by the time he was on X-Men, and inkers who finished his artwork retained that look as well.

I don't know why he seems to prefer his later style, because I liked his earlier style better.

Is Superman Earth One worth reading?

It's solid if unspectacular. I'd imagine those who really liked MOS would find the book enjoyable.
Personally I really enjoyed that fact that Strazenski brought back the "genius in intellect" aspect of the character that was so prevalent in the silver age comics and I also loved his new take on Jimmy Olsen.
On the other hand I really could've done without the lame villain at the end of the book. Honestly that guy looked like a reject from the band Kizz.

Book 2 was better than 1 IMO, which featured added depth to both superman and the parasite.

Is Superman Earth One worth reading?

Earth One's an interesting beast. I personally dislike the direction it takes with the world and characters, so I didn't enjoy it, but I don't believe it's construction has that many flaws. If you like the foundation of ideas, tone, and depictions JMS chooses for the book, you should like it. If you don't, you'll probably be a little peeved.

It is fun to compare the series to the origins shown by Byrne, Morrison, Johns, Waid, and Goyer/Snyder. The E1 Supes seems less initially altruistic/more cautious and much more self-centered/introspective (the first options are how the character comes off to me and some other readers, the second how he seems to others). The supporting cast is a very archetypal portrayal of the characters most bare bones traits at the start (I'd almost call it a heavy handed cliched portrayal), except for a new character who has some interesting twists on classic tropes for the universe. And the villains are...different.

It's basically what a JMS helmed Superman TV show would probably look like, for better or for worse. The man has serious talent, but there is a reason why some Superman fans feel he doesn't get the character. Then again, it's the same fanbase that hates itself sixteen ways from Sunday, so...

...at the very least, he was smart enough to get an artist who doesn't follow the perplexing pattern of updating the suit in the comics with a militaristic collar. It may just be my experience with pop-culture depictions of fascistic characters, but a tight collar seems very un-Superman to me.

Why does that superman look like Hiro Nakamura. Does this superman "Bend time and a space"?

He doesn't have the gift of flight. Instead, when need requires him to take to the skies, Jimmy Olsen fires him from a cannon. That is what the artwork depicts.
