Regardless of how one feels about the costume (which is... awful), the comments about John Romita Jr. being terrible are patently absurd. The man is one of the most prolific comic artists of all time. His output on Superman is not his best, certainly, but when you've been penciling some of the top tier projects in the industry for thirty years you're allowed to get a little lax. Calling Romita crap because of his output in Superman is like picking up an issue of Batman Odyssey and calling Neal Adams a hack.
Frankly, the work he's done on Spider-Man (especially during JMS' run in the '00s, where I would say JR was at the peak of his powers) is the kind of stuff where it becomes appropriate to throw around words like "definitive." As in, "defined an entire generation of Spider-Man comics."
