BvS The Superman Suit Thread - Part 4

How many pieces is the suit made of ? Just top and bottom or more ?

The mos suit had a zipper in back and seemed to be one piece with boots separate.

The added padding was poorly done but Routh did add muscle to his frame.

Also you can't forget the muscle you see on Cavill's suit is also mainly the result of molding/padding in areas. Most of Cavill' workout effort was more so done for his shirtless scene then to necessarily fill out the suit. Natural muscle definition is hard to see through those types of suits and while Singer probably wanted Routh to not have to need padding ala Reeve they had to compromise in parts.

Either way it comes down to the fact that yeah the MoS is quite superior to the Return suit in make and look.
Singer should have given Routh a shirtless scene too, like when he woke up from his bed or he fell in the Martha's embrace. then people would be more impressed by him. missed opportunity again. :D

He was shirtless in the hospital scene after his fight with the kryptonite island that should have killed him.

oh ya... but that shirtless scene isn't impressive at all. sorta slightly better than ordinary body type.

There were a million missed opportunities with Superman Returns.

Routh was in great shape for that movie and possibly, given a different script, could have been a great superman. I feel for the guy.

I always wanted him to start working on a building site, in metropolis after his return from space.

We see the aircraft malfunction, it's on the radio, we see him loo around, he spots a stall selling hot dogs, one next to it is selling plain superman t shirts with attached capes - he at super speed grabs one and blast off - boom he is tearing through the clouds, grabs hold of the plane and you know the rest.

His 'get up' is pretty much identical to what the new 52 did for a while, work boots and a t shirt and cape (you can imagine my surprise when i saw this).

He then starts some sort of relationship with Lois (that doesn't have a kid) and then she get's him his old job back and then a new dynamic to the story.

At the fortress he creates a new suit and we have our rebooted superman.

This is how I think the logo should have been done since 1976, or even earlier! Have a simple blue suit with a yellow triangle sewn in, the a rubber S (with border) overlayed to hide the seam. Or even if it wasn't a RUBBER S but a fabric one, the could have cut the S out of a thin form and then wrapped red fabric around it.

I know it's easy to say with the benefit of hindsight, but there really was no excuse for Reeve's wonky S even 40 years ago, and a raised detail always looks better. Imagine if you showed the costume designers back then a pic of Cavill's suit and said "hey, try your best to incorporate aspects of this into your design".

...I think the wonky S for Reeve was just the the designers trying to emulate the comic look and feel of the S. A sign of the times.

I never liked the raised S of Routh's suit, way out of place and even think the raised S on MOS and BvS could be a little less... especially due to the advanced tailoring of the Krytonians. Could have been more integrated... but that's a nit. Still looks great and "impressive" on screen.

The suit "could" have been better, but back in '76, we didn't have anything better to compare to and didn't know any better.

It was great...as were the wonky props of Star Wars...:cwink:

In SR's defense, there was also this:

Which is one of my favorite shots in the whole movie.

Agreed.

This was a great shot. Not only did it look good visually but it showed why SR's flying scenes were so spectacular.

He was shirtless in the hospital scene after his fight with the kryptonite island that should have killed him.

Yeah I remember that now. When they ripped the suit off him I remember being impressed by his muscle. Then months later I began to wonder why he didn't look like that in the suit.

...I remember how easily the suit tore off, or opened...at the neck, like a kids onesy.

How did the doctor know how to open it?

Does Krytonian cloth really rip that easily?

so many questions...

^ In the scene, you can hear the doctor say something like "Wait, here it is!" and then they rip the suit off. So they found a notch or zipper or something.

Now, any time I see a pic of that particular version of the suit, I'm always going to think of Singer's *****iness story.

Really. I never heard that. Do you have super hearing? Gotta listen again.

My words exactly.

Lol, Cage's left bicep looks like a tumor.

...its not a tummuh...

...please tell us the Singer *****iness story...I've never heard it.:woot:

If you watch the Superman Lives documentary, the story of how whenever anyone would question Singer on the SR suit, he'd get one of his assistants or whoever to bust out the unflattering Nic Cage pic where he's blinking and be like, "This was what you were going to make."

Seemed he used it as some way to make them feel guilty and/or stupid for saying anything negative about his SR choices.

To build one's self up, it's best to knock someone else down. :woot:

That's funny.

Compare yourself to the lowest denominator...:sly:

"Hey, I could have given you this crap, but I decided to be nice and give you mediocre instead."

Oh well. As I've said. SR was OK. Fun as an ending for Donners versions.

Could have been much better with a better suit, better Lois, (was ok), better story, better direction and no kid! Funny scene but with the kid, I feel they were painted them into a corner. Was there any talk of where they would go story wise IF SR got a sequel?

I am watching it now and just heard that. What a rude thing to do. As if that validates the SR suit in anyway.
Absolute nonsense.

No way...I never heard that story. Now Brians suit is right next to Cage's in the Wtf were they thinking category. At least with Cage it looked incomplete and thrown together because it was pretty production. Actually I have yet to see good costumes from Singer.

Alright folks, I think it's time to stop talking about the Superman Returns and the failed Burton suit. What's done is done. Let's stick to the BVS suit. You don't see the Batman suit thread bring up the Burton and Shumacher suits all the time. Though they tend to bash the TDK suit here and there.
