BvS The Superman Suit Thread - Part 4

Agree I think the square buckle could work if it was bigger but all the curves on the suit just work much better for an oval.

It's funny up until the recent trailer I preferred the Man of Steel suit but now I think I prefer this one. Although I still prefer the oval buckle to the rectangular one.

I still prefer the MOS suit, personally.

I just think the way the piping on his sides and the oval belt was looked better. I like how the piping on the new suit doesn't have that stuck on look but I prefer the position on the MoS suit more. I hope that makes sense.

I've said it since the the first official BvS Superman photo: I prefer the BvS suit in every way.

I like them both.

I loved the first official photo's piping but from everything else we've seen it doesn't have that same look to it.

The only thing I'd change is the size of the shield, and even then I'd only make it the same size/position of the MoS suit. That's a very minor complaint though.

The size of the shield is still the number 1 thing I'd want changed back to.

The MoS suit was a cool looking suit but the BvS suit is a dream come true!

Other than the belt "buckle" being changed to a rectangle instead of an oval, I prefer the BvS one.

I remember people saying that there is no silver undersuit this time, but Wilkinson confirmed that there is:

It's a little bit different. The amazing thing about working on these big franchise films is that everytime you do another, you get to make the costumes even more compelling and more exciting. The one thing I love about my job is that we get to explore new costume technologies and new ways of making costumes. Two years later, there's new materials, new digital technologies. We use a lot of 3D printing and we scan our actors and we build costumes in the computer.

So, with the Superman costume, we have a new material. The suit is a little bit more sheer, so you really get the sense of this metal undersuit coming through the blue oversuit and we have a new fabric for the cape. And, also, Zack wanted to include a Joseph Campbell quote in the suit, so there's a quote from Joseph Campbell: 'Where we thought to stand alone, we will be with all the world' and we decided to translate that into Kryptonian and we put it through the 'S' on his chest, through his cuffs, his belt, through his bicep, just to give a little extra something for the fan with very sharp vision to appreciate.

Also, now we know what that quote on the suit says. For those who don't know, Joseph Campbell did works in comparative mythology and religion. So, I'm familiar with the guy from my studies.

Epic Battle Superman... with an axe?! :woot:

Lucas used a lot of Campbell's work in SW. Campbell did an entire interview comparing the philosophy of SW to religion.

Seems Snyder is also a follower.

How could anyone say there was no silver undersuit. Like you can see the damn thing clear as day on the sit pics. It's super obvious with night time pictures.

The full Joseph Campbell quote used on the suit.
"Furthermore we have not even to risk the adventure alone, for the heroes of all time have gone before us. The labyrinth is thoroughly known. We have only to follow the thread of the hero path, and where we had thought to find abomination, we shall find a god. And where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves. Where we had thought to travel outward, we will come to the center of our own existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we will be with all the world."

Wow. That's pretty cool to see. Am I the only one that thinks Cavill looks like a CG character there? It's mostly his suit

I think the cape is probably CG, but the rest looks real to me.

It looks like it's lacking the texture the real suit has.

EDIT

Watching some of Man of Steel. I really wish they didn't change the cape's texture. The velvet smooth look was perfect.

only because we are looking at still frames.

If full motion and not computer enhanced/compressed it will all look great.

many times REAL things look fake when slowed down too much or filmed at a high rate. there is no REAL motion blur and we see TOO much.

Our eyes are accustomed to a certain refresh rate if you will. The persistence of vision.

When we see too much it looks unnatural and weird.
