While Despero had scoured the city of Gotham for the voice he had heard, to his disappointment it grew difficult. Such a population in Gotham, and so much noise and violence through out the city, he eventually had lost track of the original voice. But he continued to fly over the city, trying to find that same voice.

After a while of searching, he finally hears it again.

"D-D-Despero."

"DesperoDesperoDespero."

"D-D-Despero."

All of a sudden he hears is name, only this time he can sense the origin of it much stronger; louder than before. His name is constantly repeated, and he is able to finally get a nearby location of just a few miles to east. Curious, Despero teleports and reappears in the vicinity of the signal he heard.

"DesperoDesperoDespero."

His attention is turned to a warehouse in the southeast corner of the intersection he teleported to. He floats over to the roof of the warehouse, shooting out a psi-beam with his third eye, and slowly descends as he levitates into the warehouse.

"Who has called my name? Who wishes to speak with Despero?"

Gotham City

At one time I thought it was worth saving, that no matter what the scum of this city could muster good would conquer it and I would be on the forefront as Gotham's District Attorney. But like I said that was a long time ago. Before my life was taken from me, everything I held dear ripped away by a man that I thought I could trust. The man known as Harvey Dent died that day, what was left called itself Two-Face. For a time I traveled with Two-Face trying to keep him contained. But when my chance came for redemption Two-Face striked annihilating any chance of a normal life. With that act Two-Face took over, pushing me into the deepest recesses of my own mind and permitting me only two hours of control a day.

I used that time to contact what few allies I still had, passing on info of Two-Face's activities in hopes that he'll be captured and put away from the rest of his days. When that plan failed I lost hope isolating myself from Two-Face and falling into a sort of coma. Over that time I watched as Two-Face allied himself with scum like the Joker, watched as he fell deeper into the filth of Gotham while all the while I've been gaining strength.

My name is Harvey Dent and I'm gonna get my life back.

ex Luthor
"Ladies and gentlemen," Lex began, addressing the myriad of press that gathered around him outside of the LexCorp hangars on the outskirts of Metropolis, "as you are no doubt aware, we are currently in a time of great crisis. The unknown entity who has identified itself as 'Despero,' apparently another alien like Brainiac and Superman, is threatening our very way of life."

Luthor made certain to put a subtle emphasis on the word alien, a slight sneer in his voice as it left his mouth.

"Those in my campaign have informed me that there is currently a special meeting of Congress underway...wherein the possibility of capitulation is being discussed. If the motion passes, the United States government will have, for the first time in over two hundred years of independence, surrendered to a foreign enemy."

There were murmurs within the crowd of reporters as Luthor spoke. Many of them were still unconvinced of the sheer gravity of the situation. Others were as deadly serious as he was, and the implications of what he said sparked grim thoughts.

"I can assure you that my running mate, the esteemed Senator Ross, is doing everything in his power to make sure that this will not happen. America cannot and will not ever bow to any would-be conqueror! We as a people must rally against him, and fight like our forefathers did!

"And to that end, I am proud to say that, working with other brilliant scientists within the Society and independently, we have developed the means to fight Despero--without the need to rely on super-powered vigilantes--and to defeat him once and for all.

"Ladies and gentlemen,"
he said, spreading his hands as the hangar bay doors opened behind him, "I give you...the Knight Watch."

From out of the hangar, a phalanx of armored soldiers marched in perfect formation. Their armor was a mix of rigid plates--bearing the iconic green-and-purple color scheme that had long been associated with the LexCorp brand--and a black body glove underneath. Covering their faces were green helmets with translucent red visors, obscuring their facial features, but just transparent enough to avoid dehumanizing them completely. On their backs were compact versions of the antigravity harnesses that LexCorp security had worn into battle during the Brainiac invasion. And in their hands were wicked-looking assault rifles, their barrels glowing with bright blue light.

"These men are some of the most elite soldiers the U.S. military have ever trained," Luthor half-lied. In fact, they were trained privately by his recent associate Slade Wilson, but were under direct command of General Wade Eiling, so the military connection was still true in that sense. "Their weapons and armor, created based on data gathered during the battle against Brainiac, are all designed with extra-normal targets in mind. L-Soft, if you don't mind, list the specifications."

The PDA in Luthor's hand produced a small projector from one of its many compartments, and began to project a readout of the soldiers' suits.

"Knight Watch tactical combat system:

ARMOR- Military-grade 'dragon skin' body glove, overlaid with kevlar and ceramic plates coated with synthetic diamond. Impervious to small-arms fire and most explosives.

COMMUNICATIONS RELAY- Wireless satellite uplink with command locations and all other Knight Watch units. Interface system designed on OMAC technology, built to counter similar threats. Closed network makes uplink impregnable to hacking or other digital threats.

ARMAMENT- Hand-held LAR-38 Directed Energy Rifles, with interchangeable delivery cartridges: superheated plasma, broad-spectrum lasers, high-voltage electric stun, or cryogenic freezing. Secondary weapons include gauntlet-mounted concussion rockets and an EMP-emitter housed within the local generator.

ADVANCED ENERGY- Next-generation anti-gravity harnesses, with stablizers mounted in the boots, allow for controlled individual flight. Energy can also be directed to emit a temporary force-field, protecting unit from more powerful threats.

SUMMARY- The Knight-Watch tactical combat system is designed to give soldiers every possible advantage over extra-normal opposition, thus reducing potential unnecessary loss of life on both sides of the conflict."

"The next generation of American soldiers, now armed and equipped to handle the new challenges of the world," Lex said proudly, before adding with a grin, "Frankly, I'd put a squad of these fellows against Superman any day of the week."

"And don't think I've stopped there,"
he continued, "In the wake of Despero's telepathic message, I have located the psionic frequencies the creature uses to activate his powers...and thus designed the means to subvert it. LexCorp is currently in the process of manufacturing a high-powered psionic field generator that, when activated, will render entire cities safe from Despero's power.

I wish the brave men and women of Gotham's Finest good luck, but I unfortunately cannot rely solely on that. With these new technologies in play, however, I can assure you that humanity will stop Despero once and for all!"

To him, this was all old news. The Knight-Watch program had been underway since before he had hired Deathstroke to lead it, the armor just a newer model of his older War-Suit. The psionic field generator was just a bigger version of the one he had used to protect himself when he confronted Despero in person. Honestly, he felt more like he was digging old junk out of his attic than debuting the 'next generation' of weapons.

Politically, though, this was a bold step. He needed to show the press that he was not only willing to protect the American people, but also that he was capable of doing so without needing some super-powered freak 'saving the day' every time his own armed forces weren't enough. Debuting his anti-Superman weapons now simply as anti-Despero would only bring more people to his side when the true confrontation came.

Still, he could hear one voice of dissent among the approving crowd,

"Mr. Luthor," Lois Lane said, a skeptical tone in her voice as always, "doesn't it seem a bit convenient to you that, in the day or so since Despero's arrival, you've already come up with counter-measures for him? That all of a sudden, we have super-soldiers and weapons to save the day, all with the LexCorp brand name on it?"

"My dear Miss Lane," Luthor said, with a little more fire in his voice than he usually allowed, "there is nothing 'convenient' about it. I am fortunate enough to be surrounded with the most gifted minds on the planet, and my own intellect is hardly insignificant itself. The times require that we think fast and act decisively, and that is exactly what the Society is set out to do! That, combined with my own personal funds, allow me to come up with solutions while those in Washington would squander trillions of taxpayer dollars to an inferior result.

"And frankly, with all that I have and all that I am capable of doing, it would be unconscionable for me not to devote my efforts toward confronting the threats others cannot. I know you are used to seeing those in power move slowly and fail to deliver their promises. That will soon change, Miss Lane. I believe we can defeat Despero, and when that happens, America will be ready for the change it needs."

The press conference went on for another half-hour or so, but with that exchange, Luthor had already won another minor battle. Compared to dissenters like Lois Lane or that Kent yokel, an alien invader would be a cake-walk. As much as they would try to spin it, Lex had delivered exactly what the uninformed public craved to hear.

The White House was that much closer now.

And 'change' would indeed be coming.

Little did the public know exactly how much he intended.

Tom Elliot

It's been a few hours since the Joker blew up Fourth Street. The night has crawled in, creeping and insidious, watching and waiting. They were in a warehouse somewhere near the station. It wasn't time to risk being over-heard by the corrupt cops that were in the pocket of the mob. There was a small wooden table in the middle of the room, that had somehow been filled with smoke, though Tom never saw a cigarette lit up.

"Who're we waiting for?" Gordon asked, irritation and anger lacing his voice like a poison.

"No one can find Grayson, and Montoya isn't coming. Her mother was in a care home on 4th," Jason Bard said, rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"God dammit," Bullock shouted, thumping the table "what the hell are we meant to do?"

"Harvey, settle down," Maggie Sawyer said, screwing her eyes shut in frustration.

"Who's this?" Gordon asked, gesturing off-hand at Tom.

"I thought we could use some extra numbers," Bullock said, glaring at Sawyer "What with Corrigan disappearing on us as well,"

"Tom Elliot," he said, extending a hand for Gordon to take. The Captain stared at him for a second, before taking it and shaking it a little.

"Good to meet you," he muttered.

"People, we need to act now," Gordon said, looking intently at the detectives gathered "Things in Gotham are coming to a head. The Joker's rampage isn't over yet, so we need to be on the look-out twenty four seven. Zucco and his men haven't been nearly as active as we'd thought, and that worries me. What the hell is he planning? We need someone watching his every move. And since that fiasco with at the press conference, Cobblepot has put Grogan in charge of the GCPD,"

"Grogan? He's the worst cop I know. He's more corrupt that Flass!" Sawyer shouted.

"I know, Maggie, but there's nothing I can do about it. He's adopted Loeb's policy towards us as well. He wants us out, whatever way possible. My guess is that he's in the mob's pocket, but I'm not totally sure. Maggie, you and I are going to be trying to track the Joker down; Jason, when she gets back I want you and Montoya to work at leading Grogan off on the wrong track as to what we're up to. Bullock, you and your friend work on Zucco. Good luck people, remember-"

What they were to remember, they never found out. There was a tinkle of glass and a grey tube dropped into the warehouse.

"MOVE!" Gordon shouted, grabbing Sawyer by the arm and heading towards the back entrance.

Doors burst open all over the warehouse. Tom could recognise the mugshots of some of Zucco's gang members; they'd been attached to the post mortems he'd written. He could also see some cops, though through the smoke and confusion, he couldn't tell who. He jerked back as Harvey grabbed him by the back of his jacket, pulling him upright. He pulled out his small pistol, as the sound of small arms fire filled the warehouse.

"We need to leave," Bullock stated, firing off in front of him. Tom turned around and shot at a mobster behind them.

"Follow me," Tom said, heading towards the stairs that the twitching man had decended from. There was another corrupt cop at the top of the stairs, who recieved a swift punch in the gut from Tom, and then a knee in the face from Bullock as he lumbered past.

"This way," Tom shouted, kicking the fire escape open. He ran out into the fresh air, to be stopped by the lack of stairs or ladders leading downwards.

"Jump!" Bullock shouted.

"Are you crazy?!"

The sound of gunfire got closer.

"Are you?" Harvey said, closing the door. Tom closed his eyes, then hiked himself up and over the side, landing with thud on the street below. A corresponding thud announced that Bullock had just joined him. He was pulled up into the air and put back on his feet.

"Come on, we'll take my car,"

As Hal tried to explain to the Flash that we were not enemies, Clark reached forward and put his hand on the Scarlet Speedster's shoulder. "Mr. Allen... Barry... no doubt you've noticed that this version of Earth isn't your home. We were all taken from a universe parallel to this. By Despero. We need to find a way back."

ult.glbanner.JPG

Hearing the Man of Steel explain to the Flash what the situation was, Hal stepped forward to help reassure to the fastest man alive the truth of it all.

"Superman is right, Flash. We need your help to get out of here. Not to mention find all the others who Despero sent here. The only question is, can we count on you to help us do that?"

"Who has called my name? Who wishes to speak with Despero?"

"I do."

Machinery throughout the infrastructure of the facility gears itself to life, by my command. Titanium reinforcements line the walls, fueled by electromagnetic pulses generating from the seams drilled into the floor. The balance creates a field of rapid energy, instantly knocking the creature back, if only for a few inches. Behind me, electronic laser grids spring to life, supplying the feed into my helmet with sensors that lock onto Despero's body, ready to fire blasts of amplified sound waves if he tries anything I don't trust - And right now, even the slightest breath he takes is tempting me.

I step forward, out of the shadows, as a wall of 13-inch plexiglass slides down from... what's left of the ceiling, after he blasted half of it away. By the time it hits the ground, we're seperated enough for me to trigger the next experimental device I've installed. But I won't use it until he's given me reason to.

My finger rests on the button, just incase. Despite all the precautions I've taken with what little I actually know, I can't be especially sure of what Despero really is. All that I know is that he isn't a man. And unless I'm mistaken... I made a vow to never take a human life.

"I don't know what you are, Despero, but I will find out. After you tell me where the missing metahumans are."

Zatanna looked at the grand theater, hearing the loud applause from the audience inside. She'd thought about the great wonders if her life had taken a different path. Zatanna looked at her Passport, she saw the name Zatanna Zatara. Zatanna was meaning to change it, but never got round to. She would also have to go to court and be asked why she wanted to change it. But what Zatanna didn't realize is she could always use her magic skills. The problem with Zatanna nowadays though, she never uses her gifts, wanting to be unknown and not noticed. That's why she died her hair blonde.

Zatanna dusted off her mini black dress and looked down at her black stilettos. Zatanna looked around in the dark streets of Gotham. She slowly put her hands in her silk black jacket and walked down the street, back to her apartment. Two drunken men were singing on the streets whilst drinking Whiskey from the bottle.
"Alright Lov! Come ova 'ere and i'll show how I work!" One of the men shouted, s******ing along with the other man.
"Yeah, hows about we go do some business, if ya know whatta mean!"
Zatanna turned to the men, her expression made out she was infuriated.
The two men stood outside a lively bar called Ranslow Inn, the bar stood next to the Grand Theater. Zatanna continued to walk on, but the men had ran up to her.
"Get away from me before I..."
The breath of the two men stank, a pongy smell came out their mouths, they had thrown the whiskey away, getting closer to Zatanna.
"How's about we pay and you...ya know"
Zatanna stepped away, she'd been down that path.
"That's not going to happen" Zatanna continued to step away but the two men backed her into the wall, getting closer to her.
"Come on then, let's get started" One of them said, he gnarled and reached for her top, the other one laughed.
"NO! HELP!"

Zatanna pushed aside the two men and ran down the pavement, next to the bar. The men chased after her and grabbed her. Then, Zatanna felt someone behind her, the men didn't see as they were chatting and laughing among themselves.
"Cover those ears, girly"
Zatanna felt two palms cover her ears. Suddenly she heard a loud noise, but it was played in a delicate way, it was like a very very high pitched opera song, it started to hurt Zatanna, the sound waves affected her, but the person's hands hardly let the sound through. Zatanna watched as the two men screeched and were sent flying into the road.
"Come on, let's get you cleaned up" The hands let go of Zatanna's ears. Zatanna spun round to see a young woman about her age, with black hair and piercing green eyes.
"Thank You!"
The woman wore a white blouse and a short black mini skirt, along with Grey tights and black boots.
"I'm Dinah lance"
Zatanna was still amazed at what she'd hear and seen. Dinah took Zatanna into the bar.

"I work here by the way"
Her accent was definitely American Irish.
"So...so you're not gonna say anything about keeping quiet about your power to have a super sonic sing sorta thing?"
"Nah, I know you'll hush about it, because if ya don't...well you know"
Dinah spoke, with her flowing black hair getting in her face.
"I also gotta tell you something....I don't know why i'm telling you but....i'm a metahuman as well"
Dinah gave a shocked look and then flashed a smile. She cleaned a bear mug and slammed it down.
"Really? What's your power then lov?"
"Well I haven't used them lately, because it reminds me of my past but I do magic stuff" Zatanna sighed, she looked to her left, daydreaming about the Grand Theater.

"Awh, that's a shame, well there's no rule saying ya have to use your powers...." Dinah looked at Zatanna,
"You wanna perform in the theater don't ya?"
"You're a mind reader!?" Zatanna questioned, astonished,
"It's complicated...."
"Not as complicated as my life, I can tell ya that"
"So you a costumed heroine of some sort?"
"Far from a heroine....I would be more of a villainess"
"Villainy, eh? That's a bad route....so what's your name sweet heart?"
"Z--I mean Rachel, Rachel Dawes"

The Council did not meet after the Sea Serpent returned to the dark depths whence it came. Everyone was too concerned with checking on their families, ensuring safety was secured during the beast's onslaught. Several buildings lay in ruin, others with minimal to large damage. All the while, Nuidis Vulko remains in the Town Square with Orin.

"Foul beast that was, Vulko. Daus was blaming my presence being the reason for the Kraken's disturbance; and now this."

Vulko, still a tad shocked at what he thought he saw, takes a moment before he snaps out of it as Orin finishes his remark. In a way, Nuidis is furious that Orin would somehow start to try to connect the two attacks with Daus' claim.

"That is highly unlikely, Orin. One cannot make such a claim, and back it up with such small evidence. This is the second attack since you have come into our city. To so easily be convinced that you are causing some sort of great disturbance in our Society would be barbaric and savage."

"But still..."

Orin starts to swim slowly towards the direction the Sea Serpent made an exit.

"As the abomination fled, I saw something Vulko. Something...enchanting. Something...terrifying and beautiful at the same time; which that alone I cannot explain the reasoning behind. I saw...what looked like a woman."

Realizing that Orin had too seen the mysterious woman off in the distance, Vulko's eyes go wide. Perhaps it could be from his shock or perhaps it could be from his subconscious of putting the pieces together. A name slips out of his lips. A name unlike the one he had thought of before. It made so much sense to him now.

"Nuliajuk."

Orin turns around, realizing he had heard the name before.

"The Sea Witch?"

"Not just some Sea Witch, Orin. They claim her to be the Mother of all Sea Beasts. I've told you little about her, but that is because unless you are one of her followers like the Shalakites the less you know the better. All I do know is that she's a sea demon of some sort. She's supposed to be a fowl, disgusting, revolting--"

"She was beautiful but...not in the way that I know it sounds. I cannot describe it."

"Yes, well she is a deceiving creature of Olde. She may have appeared before us as a beautiful sea nymph of some sort, but it doesn't change the fact that it was Nuliajuk. Of that I'm certain. Who else could call back such a creature with but a gesture?"

Vulko swims towards Orin as Orin seems to be lost in thought and he extends his hand.

"Come, Orin. Let's us celebrate your victory. Should the villainous Nuliajuk or one of her minion's come back, we shall be ready for them; I'll notify the Council at once come the change in the tides."

As Barry Allen contemplated his answer, Clark suddenly heard a distant, but distinct noise with his super hearing. The other heroes in their group hadn't noticed anything as Superman turned his head in the direction that the sound was coming from.

clark006rw4.jpg

The sounds of a city in anger calling out its fury were like nails scraping along a chalkboard: "Warrior Woman! Go back to where you came from! Leave us alone!"

"Warrior Woman?" The rest of the group, now realizing that the Man of Steel's attention hadn't been on them for the past few moments, gave puzzled looks to Superman. "Stay here. I have a feeling that a familiar face is on her way towards us. Get this man to a hospital," said Superman, gesturing to the crippled otherworldly double of the Flash. With that, Superman took to the skies in the direction of the fearful and angry city that was calling out at someone named Warrior Woman... or perhaps it was only someone who they thought was Warrior Woman. Clark did not want to chance having any preconceived notions of who is a villain and who is a hero on this strange Earth.

"Warrior Woman! Go back to where you came from! Leave us alone!"

As much as I try to tell the survivors in the derelict city that I am not my dark counterpart, or that Warrior Woman has been defeated and her power taken, they don't believe me. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure why I thought I could convince them so easily. After all, their Diana is identical to me.

Disappointed, I take flight away from them, much to their surprise--I shudder to think exactly what they were expecting me to do. So much damage has been done to this world, that perhaps the only true healing that can be done is to remove those harming it. I've done my part in dispatching Warrior Woman; I can only hope my fellow displaced heroes have had similar luck.

As I pass the ruined skyline, I see a dot on the horizon, quickly growing into a figure. I recognize the bright red cape, but I cannot be sure if this is the hero from our world, or whatever twisted version that inhabits this one. I defeated my own double, but as for his, I may not be strong enough.

As the blue and red blur speeds towards me, I ready the Lasso and bring my Gauntlets to bear.

"Stop right there, Superman!" I say as he comes within earshot (though his own earshot may be far more distant). "Keep right where you are, until I learn from which Earth you hail."

"Far from a heroine....I would be more of a villainess"
"Villainy, eh? That's a bad route....so what's your name sweet heart?"
"Z--I mean Rachel, Rachel Dawes"

"Haha, somehow....I don't believe that"
"What's there not to believe?"
Zatanna quickly glanced a worried look at Dinah. Dinah fixed her eyes on Zatanna, observing her every move. Zatanna thought she was good at the lying game but could obviously not trick this lady.
Zatanna had heard of Rachel Dawes in the glossy magazines, she wasn't a proper celebrity, she was seen with playboy millionaire Bruce Wayne, but Zatanna had always liked the way Rachel looked and envied her as she could get to Bruce Wayne and Zatanna couldn't. Dinah walked around from the bar and stood in front of Zatanna.
"I'm going to the loo, when I come back we'll get you cleaned up"
Dinah walked off. Zatanna twisted round, to check if Dinah was gone. Zatanna was going to steal Dinah's money, as much as it pained her.

Zatanna got off her stool and walked round the opposite way Dinah went. Zatanna spotted a wooden door. She ran over to the door. A drunken costumer who sat nearby stopped her.
"You aloud back there?" The woman held a cigarette in her left hand, she tipped it into the ashtray.
"Shut up and get on with drinking old lady"
Zatanna then pushed the door open. Some boxes of crisps and crates of beer were there plus a flight of stairs. Zatanna walked up the stairs, she saw a three different rooms, she had to be quick. It was dark, she couldn't see that well but could still make out which room had 'Dinah' on the door. Zatanna barged her way through the jammed door and looked around. She shut the door quietly and turned the light on.

Zatanna saw a long black coat. She ran over to the coat and digged her hand into the pockets. She slowly lifted her hand out and looked at she had grabbed.
It was an ID, that read Dinah was a police detective.
"That liar!"
Zatanna then peered over to her left hand, which held a sheet of A4 paper, it was a brief of some sort.
"Infiltrate the Ranslow Inn for the pub owner, John Ranslow who is an international drug seller, who uses the name Dave Lander" Zatanna read, she was astonished from what she had seen. Zatanna continued her search, she looked a chest of draws. She ran over to them and pulled the draws out. Clothes eroded onto the floor. Zatanna slumped to the floor, searching for money. She found her wallet, but something else.
A black mask. Zatanna then added up all the clues.
The other day on the news, she'd heard about a heroine called Black Canary, who had the power of a super sonic scream.

The door then slammed open. Zatanna turned round to see Dinah Lance in the frame of the door she held a small revolver. The revolver shone in the darkness of the hallway. Dinah slammed the door and walked over to Zatanna, pointing the gun at her.
"You already know too much, whoever you are"
"You're Black Canary! The toughest vixen around!"
"And you're that girl who i'm about to kill!"
Zatanna backed off, she slowly got up, she but her hands, walking backwards. Her back slammed against the window frame, the chill of the air from the outside sent a cold feeling down Zatanna's spine. Dinah just smirked and continued to point the gun.
"Please don't, i don't want to hurt you"
"Actually, I don't even know why I have this gun, how's about I just blow you away with my amazing voice?"
"No, pl---AHH"
Zatanna had backed away once to many times, she fell out the window, screaming of fear.

Dinah ran over to the window frame, she observed the ground, seeing if Zatanna's body were there. Nothing.
"Damn! She escaped!" Dinah ran out her room, slipping the gun away.

Zatanna held on to the window frame from outside. She looked down. She looked at the huge bin. Zatanna then put her two feet against the wall. She slowly let go of the frame and back flipped off the wall. She landed on the metal lid of the bin, hitting it hard. Zatanna slid off the bin and onto the floor. She straightened herself up and ran over to the Theater.

A crowd of people went into the theater. Zatanna spotted a poster, reading:
"THE GREAT MADAME XANADU PERFORMS LIVE!"
Zatanna ran in.

Zatanna looked around the lounge. She ran into the Stage Room. People were sitting and chatting in the seats whilst the stage was empty, only a few props stood on it. Zatanna covered her face with her jacket and tip toed behind the curtains. She saw people buzzing around, to busy to notice her. Zatanna pushed open the door that said 'Backstage'.
"We need a replacement! Anyone good at magic, REPLACEMENTS PEOPLE!" A man ran around backstage, a mic to his ear and clutching a clipboard. Zatanna heard the words ring in her ear, could this be her chance to make money and have the limelight? Zatanna was sure of it.
"I'm good at Magic! Infact I've been a magician for years! I have extraordinary abilities" This wasn't exactly a lie, it was more like
the exaggeration of the truth.
"So why are you standing there! Go and get changed into the costume given! No questions, just go!"
Zatanna was surprised he didn't ask who she was.

Zatanna walked into the changing rooms, she picked up the costume on the make-up counter and glared at it.
"I've worn worse"
Zatanna was alone, so she didn't have to cover up. She took off her normal clothes and fitted on her costume. Zatanna quickly strode out the dressing room. A man came up behind her and shoved her to the curtain area.
"You're on"

The curtains opened and Zatanna stood in front of the millions of people, the light shone in her face. She cracked a smile.
"I'm Madame Xanadu! Mistress of Magic!"

"Stop right there, Superman!" I say as he comes within earshot (though his own earshot may be far more distant). "Keep right where you are, until I learn from which Earth you hail."
At her words, Superman's flight came to a sudden crawl. He slowly and cautiously floated closer to this woman until she could look into his eyes.

"Diana? Wonder Woman?" Clark held his empty hands up in a surrendering manner. This version of Diana had the same uniform as the one from his own universe, whereas all of the other doubles that they had encountered so far had been sporting similar, but noticeably different costumes from their counterparts. A good sign. "We fought Brainiac and his OMACs together in Metropolis. We also met when Lobo came to Earth."

Still seeing the skepticism in her eyes, Clark glided a few feet closer. "It's me, Princess. Superman."

There was a gigantic feast and celebration in what was once the palace of the King of Atlantis. But of course, there hadn't been an established "sole leader" of Atlantis like a King since Orin's father Kordax. And so, the palace was moreso remodeled to serve as a sort of Great Hall for the Poseidians.

Members of the Council such as Daus, and those who sided with Daus, did not appear. However plenty of the Atlanteans in the Crown Jewel of their civilization gathered around to honor and thank Orin for his bravery and skill when facing the Sea Serpent.

However the night ended quite early for Orin. Tonight he did not take a woman or two to bed with him. This night he preferred to be alone. Perhaps it was the warrior within him, not satsified because he had not truly defeated the Sea Serpent for it had fleed by the will of another. Then again, it could be because of the mystery behind the woman who had apparently tamed the beast. Nonetheless, Orin slept a calm and peaceful night alone in his room.

There is a sudden drop of temperature in the water just outside of Orin's bedroom window. The water which resides outside the airtight Poseidian building structure starts to frost over ever so slightly as something draws nearer and neared to Orin's window. And as if by magic, the entity phases through the window of ice, and as it makes it entrance the water outside shifts back to the norm and the window too is no longer frozen with ice.

But now Orin can feel the sudden drop in temperature. The chill in the room is like that of the chill of his spine as his warrior instinct kicks in, and he pulls the coral bladed sword from the side of his bed, swinging it at his unknown foe.

Pushing his long hair aside, Orin sees a beautiful woman; a sea nymph of some sort. Astonished, he lowers his sword but keeps his grip firm should he feel the need to strike again.

"Who are you?"

There is something about her that is so...heavenly. As if something about her aura warms Orin's heart. Her beauty is as terrifying as it is deadly, and that is when Orin recognizes the being before him.

"Nuliajuk."

There is a hint of sadness when Orin speaks the name from the beauty before him. And if Orin didn't know any better, he could see a tear run down her eye just before turning to an icy dust. In a moment, the being just...vanishes. One second she is there, and the next, she disappears before his very eyes.

All that remains, is the icy dust from where she stood. Orin puts away his coral blade, and walks over to the spot on the floor.

He touches it.

He remembers our battles together, and dresses in the same way as the one from home. It's difficult for me to just let my guard down, but until I see otherwise, I'm convinced.

"Superman," I say, lowering my Gauntlets, "it's good to see you again. Though perhaps we should move our conversation elsewhere. The people in this city still believe me to be my double. Athena only knows what they would do were they to see you."

"Yes. Of course you can count on me. The question is who all is here with us. Then we need to find out which of our doubles are accounted for and which ones we still need to take out."

After you tell me where the missing metahumans are."

desperobannerpic.jpg

Despero takes a step forward, and instantly wall-mounted gun turrets with machine guns following his position. He looks with his periferals, smiling as he sees the gun so readily follow his movement. He then brings his attention to the unknown human standing before him, with nothing but a clear wall separating the two.

"RAAAA!!"

As Despero is about to dash forward, the machine guns fire, and from behind him to his surprise, sonic pulsors activate. As he marches forward still, moving lasers activate the and move about. The building echoes with his roar as he makes an effort to dodge the array of weaponry, until he finally grows annoyed.

Looking at the machine guns mounted on the walls to his left and right, his third eye glows and instantly they are crushed by his telekinesis. He uses his brute strength, flying at the lasers in order direct their beams at the glass. But the human on the other side of the wall doesn't seem to budge a bit.

Raising his eyebrow, Despero grows annoyed, crushing the lasers with his hands. Looking towards the sonic pulsars on the back wall, a blast of energy from his third eye takes them out with ease. He turns to face to human, drool drippin from his face as he smiles with glee.

"Now then, were you planning on actually--"

The Batman finally reacts, exposing a button and pressing it. Instantly the space around him suddenly feels smaller, when really what is actually happening is the pressure of the room is increase at a rapid rate. Despero drops to the ground onto his knees, looking up at the human across the plexiglass wall who keeps his finger on the button. Looking as though he is in a great deal in pain, Despero starts to lower his head.

"RRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAHH!! ARGGH!!"

And then, he chuckles, looking back up at Batman and standing up still without any effort.

"Heh...heheh...hehaha...hahahha! Most impressive."

In the flash of an instant, Despero vanishes before Batman's very eyes. He reappears behind Batman. The hero is valiant in as he tries to turn around, but Despero claws at his back, splitting the spine of his metallic suit clean off.

"AHH!"

Grabbing hold of The Batman by his shoulders, Despero starts to increase the pressure on both sides, the metal of Batman's suit screeches as metal up against metal starts to slowly crush. As he has Batman in his grip he begins to probe Batman's mind.

My my...you've been up to quite a few mischevious things. And all an an effort to stop me. You should realize, human, nothing can stop--

Despero stops in his taunt, as he digs deeper into Batman's mind. His smile suddenly escapes from his face, and teeth start to grind together. With a telepathic attack, he renders The Batman unconscious, letting the bottom lie limp on the floor. For a moment, he stares at the human.

"This one bears too much intelligence on the technologies and sciences of this planet. Almost of that of my ally; that Lex Luthor. I underestimated this man clearly. He could be a useful tool in my taking over this planet. However this one does not offer me his allegiance willingly. Sure, I could merely take control of his mind and make him a mindless puppet, but he would be so much more useful were to think on his own accor--"

And that's when it hits Despero; when that smile full of glee returns to his face. He had already transported the other heroes that he had planned to swap with their evil counterparts for his plan...but what a joy it would be to find the counterpart to this hero of Earth and have him join his ranks.

"Yes. Hahahaha. I'm sure with his detective and keen skills, your counterpart is bound to find you no matter where I leave you in Gotham. Ah, and to think...I was afraid I was wasting my time."

Despero's third eye glows intensely, and Batman is zapped across the universe to the alternate Earth. Crossing his arms, and starting to levitate slowly, Despero's third eye glows again, and he too vanishes.

Superman takes a brief moment to further listen to the people in the streets below them, calling out with fury. "Agreed. Follow me; a number of other heroes from our universe are this way," he says, turning around and beginning to fly in the direction that he had come from and letting Diana catch up to him.

Giganta rampages through downtown Metropolis smashing buildings and crushing cars along the way. Deflecting bullets and shells like they were gnats bothering her.

"Is that the best you got?" She bellows.

She then feels a sledgehammer nail her in the back. As she topples over she sees the familiar streak of red and blue. Giganta smiles and says, "About time!"

Superman streaks toward her again then Giganta picks up the globe off of the Daily Planet and says, "Catch!" She hurls it at Superman who catches it and then sends it into Metropolis Harbor.

Giganta says, "Aww don't want to play catch with the nce ball, well how about this?" She rips the building off of its foundation and says, "Let's see if this is more to your liking." Giganta then hits Superman with the building as he flies back she tosses the building into the harbor and then unzips her body suit slightly.

Superman charges towards her as she reveals a chunk of kryptonite. The Man of Steel begins to waver and falls as he does Giganta grabs him. She then proceeds to hold Superman against the kryptonite.

She says, "Goodnight sweet prince."

Just then a computerized voice is heard saying, "Simulation complete."

Giganta returns to normal size and says, "Computer gimme the stats at the main monitor."

The computer responds, "Yes Miss Zuel."

Doris Zuel strides over wiping herself down with a towel and taking a drink from her bottled water. She says, "It's still not good enough. I beat Superman but it was too easy. Computer reset simulation this time at level: Luthor."

The computer replies, "Yes Miss Zuel, though may I suggest a rest-period? You have been at this simulation for the last 3 hours straight."

Doris repiles, "Suggestion noted, and ignored. I want to have my skills and powers at optimum levels, so when Lex calls I am ready to take on whatever task he has for me including Superman. Now let's go!"

The Computer replies, "As you wish Miss Zuel. Simulation on-line in one minute."

Doris changes into Giganta and says, "I will be ready. I will not fail!"

Rhiannon Palmer sits at GCPD's crime-lab enjoying lunch. She then begins reading something she has typed out on her lap-top.

It reads: Journal entry #82: The Kittner Case is coming together. All the evidence so far is pointing to the husband Jack as the killer and it should be a slam-dunk for the D-A.

I am starting to feel that "itch" again. To get back into the super-hero gig again. It was a lot of fun and I met some truly great heroes. But after a while...I mean come-on I can shrink down..ohhhh Two-Face and the others must be shaking thier shoes getting attacked by Tinkerbell. Everytime I get that "itch" I have that same dream. Where I testify in court and I have to stand on a stack of phone-books and a maganifying glass pointed at me so everyone can see me. I haven't even shrunk down in months I bet the suit doesn't even fit me anymore..."

Just then her lab-partner Henry Wilson comes into the lab and she quickly closes then lap-top.

Oh joy! It's Mr. Wonderful...this guy is the ultimate suck-up and pain in my neck. I swear if he tries to ask me out again the only thing I might need is an alibi.

Wilson says, "Hey there Ray-Ray whatch doin'?"

She replies, "Trying to enjoy my lunch before I finish the Kittner case off, and then get started on the inventory which WE are supposed to have done by the end of the month."

Wilson says, "Oh yeah well tell you what if you get strated on the inventory I'll finish the Kittner case up and we'll have the inventory done in a matter of days."

Rhiannon says, "I'm working on the Kittner case it was assigned to me I'll finish it."

Wilson says, "Come on Ray-Ray no one has to know." He moves in close to her.

She says, "Excuse me I need to go and get something from the supply room."

Rhainnon walks into the supply room and closes the door. She then closes her eyes and takes a deep breath.

Just then she hears Wilson say, "Excuse me you're not supposed to be here."

She hears another voice say, "Trust me. I won't be here long enough for you to regret it."

Rhiannon cracks the door open and sees Jack Kittner standing there with a gun pointed at Wilson. She quietly closes the door.

Oh great! Well on the bright side this proves Jack did it. He kills us and destroys the evidence. No phone in here to call to the desk sarge and my cell phone is dead. As much as I hate Wilson he doesn't deserve to die like this. Besides he should get a sexual harassment suit from me at some point. Well only one thing to do. Hope I can still do it....

Rhiannon concentrates and begins to shrink turning once again into the Atom.

She looks around and shrinks down even further to almost microscopic size. She sees that Kittner is about to fire. Quickly the Atom shifts her weight and floats over to Jack Kittner. The Atom then grows to about 1/4 of an inch and nails Jack on the bridge of his nose shattering it.

He stumbles back in pain as Wilson lunges forward and gets the gun.

The Atom smirks and floats back into the supply room. She changes back into Rhiannon Plamer and re-enters the room and asks, "What happened?"

Wilson repiles, "Oh Jack Kittner broke in here but I took care of everything."

Rhiannon says, "So I see I'll call the desk sarge and you can give your statement to him. But I suggest you change your pants first."

Wilson sheepishly grins and chuckles. Rhiannon just continues to stare at him and shakes her head.

After Kittner is taken away and Wilson has let for the day. Rhiannon just stares out at the window at the city.

Maybe it is not a matter of how others might see me, but more a matter of how I see myself. I gotta admit it felt great to be back and the suit still fits just right.

She looks around and shrinks down to become The Atom. The Atom then floats out of the air-vent and into the sky.

Oh Yeah..I'm back!

He watched. For that is all he could do. He watched the universes swirl around him, just out of his reach. He could not interact with them, only observe. There were five in sight. Three on the verge of disaster. The timelines of those three too corrupted. Their universes on the verge of collapse. He turned his attention on the Earth that was least near destruction.

But it too had its problems. No one noticed when Wally West was erased from the universe. Why shouldthey? He was a snot nosed punk of a kid, rebelling against everything. If they had known he was gone, he would not be missed. No, more disturbing was the presence of the speedsters. They could be problematic to the universe. Barry Allen could ruin everything. The shadow watched in slow motion as Barry failed to save his love. That was not how the timeline was supposed to go. Barry Allen is the reason this universe will die.

The crowd gave a weird look to Zatanna, they knew straight away it was not Madame Xanadu.
"Who the hell are you?" A woman called from the front row,
Zatanna smiled and chocked on her words, she might as well tell the truth, this would be the start to her fame.
"You all remember the magician Zatara, don't you? Well i'm his daughter---
ZATANNA ZATARA THE SORCERESS OF GOTHAM!"
The crowd applauded, but still awaited some magic. Maybe Zatanna had to do what was best, make some magic. She would start by speaking backwards.
"Reappa Seitliba Cigam!"
Zatanna smiled, awaiting an reaction. But all she saw was Dinah Lance walk into the seating.

The apartment was covered in blood. That was the thing that stood out the most. He stood in the doorway as the sirens wailed, getting closer. The body was in several parts around the room, but he could tell that the man had had a beard. He knelt down and touched one splatter of blood with his gloves and brought it to his lips. The blood was still warm. So the killer had only just left. Or hadn't left at all.

The Question drew his guns cautiously. But nothing moved in the deserted apartment. He moved inside slowly, stepping in the puddles of blood. The room was bleak, sparse, except for a camp bed that was in the corner and an old tv that was hooked up opposite it. The only definate features were the blackboard that had been wiped clean and the ashes of what appeared to be newspaper clippings.

A few hours earlier Vic had been contacted by this man. Apparantly he knew information that he would find interesting. He certainly knew enough about him already to be worth seeing. And it seemed that someone had gotten to him first. A scrap of paper caught his eye, pinned to the wall. It had been ripped off, and the smallest amount of paper was left attached. There were two names on the scrap. But he knew something at least.

Rip Hunter was dead.

Doris sits in the Lotus postion focusing on her bouts in the simulator. Going over every detail bit by bit. She finally stands up and gets a bottled water.

It's all fun and games but reality and a simulator are 2 different animals. Somehow someway there has to be a way to hone my skills against living things and CGI.

Doris downs the water and throws the bottle into the trash can.

But I did give Lex my word that I would wait here until called upon. I'm his secret weapon for his plan...I just wish I could get some action going..or at least contact with another person. The computer can only give me so much interaction.

Doris enters the simulation chamber turns into Giganta and begins another round of simulations.

The Atom continues floating through the Gotham Sky.

I forgot how much fun the Super-Hero gig really was. So far tonight I have stopped 2 robberies, 1 mugging and 1 car-theft. The only downside all-night I kept hearing the same line over and over, "What the hell are you?" Oh well as long as I made a difference.

With that she continues to make her way through the night sky into the heart of the city.

Follow me; a number of other heroes from our universe are this way," he says, turning around and beginning to fly in the direction that he had come from and letting Diana catch up to him.
The Flash had gone and flipped through a number of newspapers at one of the outdoor kiosks nearby. From those he learned that this was a planet where their superpowered beings were feared, not loved. In the Central City Reporter he read of his double, the Rogue, and how he had demanded tribute of the citizens of Central City. In the Metropolis Daily Star he read of Superiorman, and the fascist type grip he held on most of the planet. It seemed every hero from their home had a double. Barry had to wonder if that meant the villains from their world were also doubled, and if so... who's side they were on. In the twelve newspapers he had grabbed he read no word of anyone opposing the tyrants that looked so much like him and his allies.

Not surprising. They probably control the news media. Maybe this will be a more reliable source for that...

He had picked up the latest issue of the "National Inquisitor" the same title as the smuttiest tabloid rag from his Earth. Just as he had thought. Rumors of underground freedom fighters written in small print towards the back of the publication. Freedom fighters led by Alexander Luthor. Huh.

It was then that Barry could see the approaching figures of Superman and Wonder Woman.
