When his spaceship crash-landed on Earth, Abin Sur the Green Lantern of space sector 2814 sent his ring to find the nearest suitable replacement, a sentient being with the ability to overcome great fear. The ring found Hal Jordan, a test pilot working for Ferris Air in Coast City. The ring brought Jordan to the dying alien. In his last moments of life, Abin Sur told Jordan about the role of the Green Lantern Corps in policing and protecting the universe, gave him his power ring and its battery, and passed on his mantle to the Earthman. And so Hal Jordan became a Green Lantern.
As a member of the Green Lantern Corps, Jordan has access to one of the most powerful weapons in the known universe: his power ring. A power rings capabilities are limited only by the imagination and willpower of its wearer. Hal uses his to fly, to generate his Green Lantern Corps uniform, to form a protective forcefield around his body that also lets him travel safely through space, to translate alien languages, and to generate green solid-light constructs for use in battle, among other things.
In time, Hal Jordan became known as the greatest of all the Green Lanterns. But he was to suffer a terrible fall from grace. After being possessed by Parallax, the living embodiment of fear, the greatest Green Lantern became their greatest foe, nearly destroying the Corps, and the universe with it. But Hal Jordan called upon his great willpower one last time, taking control from Parallax long enough to sacrifice his life to save Earth from destruction. But that was not the end of Hal Jordans story. First, his spirit was host to the Spectre, and when the Spirit of Vengeance moved onto another host, Jordan found himself restored to life. Now free from the corrupting influence of Parallax, Hal Jordan has reclaimed his position as Green Lantern of Sector 2814, and he now fights to atone for his sins, and become the greatest Green Lantern of them all once more.

I've been playing Hal Jordan these past two seasons, and had a blast with the character. The concluding season of the RPG is the ideal time to bring my long-running arc with Hal to its conclusion.

I fall quiet, panting with exhaustion. I can't even look at him. I just keep on staring at the ground.
"You know. You know."
For a few long seconds, I say nothing. I just keep on staring ahead. I'm alarmed by how calm my voice sounds when I finally do speak.
"Because of you... my son died on a distant planet.... alone, and afraid, and wanting me to save him. And I couldn't."
My voice starts to break, and I feel a tear running down my cheek. I ignore it, taking a deep breath so I can continue talking.
"However I betrayed you in the past, you've made me pay for it tenfold, over and over. It wasn't enough to drive me to become a monster, to kill my friends and die in disgrace and piss all over everything I ever worked all my life to stand for. It wasn't enough to trick me into becoming your friend so you could betray me and disgrace me all over again. You had to find the one thing in this world I love more than anything else, and take it away from me."
Finally, I turn around to look at Sinestro.
"Well congratulations. Whatever you've wanted from me all these years, you've got it. Because there's nothing you could do anymore to lay me any lower than what you've done now. You win."
