Well, let's say Drew beats Seth. Roman maybe gets a rematch, thenCody has an easy rivalry to kick off with Randy you can easily do. AJ appears to be heel now, so you got AJ. Damien Priest can always opt to cash in on Cody cause Drew is a heel and makes more sense to send Priest after a baby face. Gunther has been tossed out by Cody twice. Drop the IC title and have him face Cody. There are definitely options, and that's not including anyone else who may turn heel or they may sign in the future. It really depends on the direction the company wants to go, so I can't call it. I feel like Cody "finishing the story" works good for short-term, but after that, how do you build around him when he has no credible heels to face? Then booking Roman to retain is better for the long term IMO because it helps scrub away Hogan and gives Roman a legacy.
But the fans love Cody, it won't hurt his credibility taking another loss.
Agree with all that. I think what I would do though is have LA Knight take the IC Title off Gunther, then have Gunther feud with Cody. LA Knight needs a big win and a run with either the US or IC Title. Gunther vs Cody makes sense given the back to back Royal Rumble tosses. I wouldn't make this the first rivalry, though. Cody also doesn't have to necessarily have it for 12 months or something. Cody can easily be done like Austin as a baby face. Austin never had the title more than 8 months in his entire run, but he kept getting it back. I would be all for Cody has it, maybe drops it in like 6 months, wins a rematch a few months later, and so on.I'm on the same page as you. Cody HAS to win at Mania. It's time. Delaying it another year, and people would probably be begging for Gunther or Bron or someone else who may have gotten red hot like LA Knight did this year. If Cody fails again he'll have shown he's not the guy. Where if he does win you have fresh new stories in a new direction. Romans legacy without a doubt is already cemented but please yes let's do Roman vs Rock at SummerSlam especially if you want it to be the WrestleMania of the summer.
As for who is the heel waiting for Cody after Roman? There's Gunther but he shouldn't lose either, and Cody shouldn't lose his first feud as champion so I'd hold off on that one. You can tell the legacy story with Randy. Damien Priest is a good option. Or really you go all in on Kross and give him the opportunity against Cody.
Cody vs any of Priest, Balor, Styles, AJ, Orton, Punk, Lashley, Kross or Knight would all be banger matches. You could even have Sheamus return as a heel and kick Cody's face off. And of course the eventual Gunther match. I'd throw Santos Escobar (my choice for next mitb winner) in there as well as I'm a fan of his and they could tear the house down
I agree Knight should become whc this year. But if they wanted he could go heel in 15 seconds with a microphone (I wouldn't do that right now, though)
With Cody as champ, guys like Kross and Escobar would at least have an opportunity at a main event match. That's never happening with Roman.
That will probably be a multiple man match to get Orton, Owens, Lashley (because his team vs. Kross AOP is not a Mania match), Santos Escobar (if Rey Mysterio doesn't return) and Bron Breakker all on the WrestleMania 40 Card.On another note, it looks like they're setting up a match between LA Knight and AJ Styles for WM 40. Personally, I'm kind of disappointed since I was hoping for LA Knight to challenge Logan Paul for the US Championship.
Seriously, most of the singles champions do not need their respective championships right now.
Man, the nap I took during that PPV was really good.
The women's EC was good, but Naomi looked like she didn't belong with the rest in the match. Tiffany Stratton definitely shined and will be a major star sometime soon. I'm not a Morgan fan but she looked food. The Man and Belair are still top notch. And Rodriguez looked like a beast and worked like a hoss and this is the direction she needs to keep. I need them to push her seriously.
The tag match was my nap time.
I skipped the talk segment because it's a ****ing PPV not RAW.
And the rest of the show just felt meh. I missed part of the men's EC because I has to ffw through those obnoxiously long entrances. And I just can't put time into caring about anything with Jax in it, even against Ripley.
I think he should. Good way of telling two different stories with the titles in terms of how it goes at Mania.Does Damien cash in on Drew at Mania?
He's also the only one from that group that Seth has never wrestled, so it would have been a completely fresh match.LA Knight would have been the only other viable option in the mens match only because he's been in the hunt again Roman recently.
No one else in that match had anything to do with Seth so no one would have a real storyline reason to win except McIntyre. And while he deserves it, Seth should be beating off contenders with a crutch being the wounded dog he is. Everyone should want a piece. Should want the gold. As well as be working their storylines.
The title, any title, should always be the goal.
I do genuinely think Drew facing Seth 1v1 was the wrong call, though. Or at the very least LA Knight facing AJ was the wrong call.
There's so much more you can do with character focused rivalries with this new heel version of Drew. Meanwhile LA Knight has lowkey been getting stale ever since he lost to Roman at Crown Jewel. But he doesn't have to. LA Knight's the only one who has naturally gotten to the point of a title run or at least a title rivalry being the only thing that makes sense for where he is right now. He doesn't need to be elevated by AJ putting him over at Mania (as amazing as that match is gonna be). Even if you're insistent on it being Drew who faces Seth, I think it should've been LA Knight that Logan punched rather than Randy. Randy can elevate the US title, for sure. But he doesn't need the title or a title at this point in his career. It doesn't really evolve Randy that much. It'd kill two birds with one stone if you put it on LA Knight. It elevates him and it elevates the US championship to something a megastar (pun intended) like LA Knight would legitimately care about and would defend like a work horse.
As an Orton fan I'm just gonna go ahead and say this, I want him to beat Flair's record. WWE is all about updating record books right now. Romans reign, Gunther breaking HTM record, Usos thousand plus days as tag champs etc. So why not let Randy have this one? He's already a 14 time champion and there's two world championships to go after.
Bayley should get to close night 1 but I think it'll be Seth and Drew.
The Mania matches we know so far:
Cody vs Roman
Seth vs Drew
Bayley vs Iyo
Becky vs Rhea
Unannounced for now but extremely likely
Cody/Seth vs Roman/Rock
Jey vs Jimmy
LA Knight vs AJ Styles (if AJ wins we know the company has no faith in Knight)
Logan Paul vs Kevin Owens vs Randy Orton. I think a ladder match so Paul can win and neither Randy nor KO has to eat a pin
Judgement Day vs Awesome Truth
Gunther vs Sammi Zayn
Bobby Lashley vs Karrion Kross
Santos Escobar vs Rey Mysterio (if Rey is healthy)
My hunches for the other girls
Jade Cargill vs Nia with Jade squashing Nia Goldberg style. Two minute match
Naomi vs Tiffany Stratton (the fans already love Tiffy time, I wonder how long they can keep her heel?)
Kabuki Warriors vs Liv/Raquel vs Fyre/Dawn vs Indi/Candace vs Natalya/Random partner vs KC2 vs Zoey/Shayna (two night tournament like 37. Might need to throw one more team in)
Bianca could and probably should face Jade but I want Bianca to keep her streak going and Jade needs to win her first singles match.
Cody/Seth vs Roman/Rock on Day 1, where Rock pins Cody meanwhile Cody wins Day 2 for the title, ala Bret Hart at WM10. Calling it now
Also works perfectly fineIf you really want Cody to look like Bret, have him take on The Rock on Night 1, then Roman on Night 2. Both singles matches.
I don’t think poor Seth could hang in there for a tag team match and a title defense with Drew.
