Xbox The Xbox One - Part 13

Yeah, and it's the persistent repeating flagship ones I think they need to boost rather than one and done titles. I would rather they go all out with 2 or 3 huge genre-leading adventure games rather than spread their resources too thinly on 10 slightly less good titles.

agreed.

hopefully something like Super Lucky's Tale proves to be a hit and can become their "cute mascot" franchise.

hopefully they'll revisit Sunset and Quantum down the road, too.

and maybe, just maybe, they can resurrect Scalebound. and Fable.

Just imagine if the Xbox core flagship of exclusives looked like this:

Halo
Gears
Forza
Killer Intstinct
Ori
Super Lucky
Cuphead
Fable
Sunset
Quantum
Scalebound
Crackdown
Sea of Thieves

That would actually be a diverse lineup of flagship exclusive titles you can't get on the PS4 or Switch. Couple that with the X being the best place for multiplats, the 4K UHD player, and the all around multi-media functions of the X1.

Yeah. They also need to be working on a couple of big titles behind the scenes that we don't know about yet. I wish they would start committing to this and next E3 better be better than the last one on this front.

^ yeah. This year was about new hardware with the X. next year the focus needs to be on the games and true exclusives ( not just the timed/launch exclusives ).

Just saw the edit. That would be a decent and varied lineup but I think it needs a couple of new killer franchises too. The XBL infrastructure is great of course and with all the other benefits listed in your post, maybe the next X console after this one can be competitive again. That is if the next console aims to have a specs advantage next gen.

Just quite with the timed crap altogether please. What a waste (for everyone).

oh yeah. there needs to be some new killer franchises, too.

And hopefully MS can forge better relationships with Japanese devs, too. It seems that may be starting to happen. Monster Hunter World is coming to X1. And even the next Sword Art Online game ( Fatal Bullet ) is coming to the X1, which was a complete surprise to me as that series has been exclusive to PS.

I'm hoping the upcoming Blazblue Cross Tag game comes to the X1 as well. The dev there did say they want to focus on a more "global" market and not just cater to Japan. Well, you can't focus on a global/western market and ignore the Xbox.

and the next console needs to have the specs advantage. MS can't afford to have the weaker hardware again.

No doubt Sony is watching the X and planning the PS5 specs accordingly. So at some point, the X will no longer be the top dog specs wise. So the follow up to the X will have to be on par or better than the PS5. And it will need the games to back it up.

Just quite with the timed crap altogether please. What a waste (for everyone).

yep. plus it's confusing and disingenuous. even timed exclusivity on content and DLC is stupid.

Yes please kill of that strategy altogether and invest it in long term franchises of your own! I think PS5 will instigate the next gen. Microsoft being a year later with the X could maybe go for the power advantage again if they give up the 1 year gap again.

yeah, with the Pro and X being released a year apart, I think the "next gen" consoles ( if there will even be a next gen as we know it ) will also follow a staggered release.

I don't see Sony releasing PS5 until 2019 at the earliest. and I don't see MS releasing the X followup ( a true next gen Xbox ) until 2020 at the earliest.

So, unless Sony delays the PS5 until 2020, it could very well be the PS5 releasing first, then the next Xbox afterwards.

regardless, though, MS can't afford to be the weaker hardware again. if you have to err, err on the side of more power, not less. And don't sacrifice gaming power for the sake of multi-media and tv ( but don't lose the multi-media functionality, either ).

And I hope both next gen consoles DO NOT take a step back in terms of multi-media like the PS4 and X1 did. The PS4 especially was a step back from the PS3 in terms of pure multi-media functionality. On the PS3, I could listen to cds, rip cds to the hdd, save music and media files to the hdd, etc. On the PS4, I can't do any of that.

I don't do that stuff too much but I would have thought when guys are sitting around designing a new console they would keep what was good about the previous one while improving on it. Once you get given a function you would expect that you will now get that for good in subsequent versions of that console (unless it goes technologically out of date).

^ yeah, in general, you should add/keep features, not remove them.

Been looking at some of the articles and videos you've posted in previous days and it does look like the enhancements of the X are going make a material difference over the S.

I really hope crossplay goes all the way and every multiplat is one day playable across all systems with your friends regardless of which console they have.

yes.

and I rewatched the Tomb Raider comparison videos last night. You can definitely see the difference between the S and X versions no doubt.

But, I was also amazed you could tell a difference between the Pro version and the X. I always thought the Pro version looked amazing, but now that I've seen the difference with the X, it's hard to "unsee" the difference......lol.

In fact, it seems almost too good to be true. I'm going to fire up Rise on my Pro tonight to see if it does look like that comparison video. I want to make sure that vid was indeed running the Pro version on the highest setting.

But, if that vid is indeed accurate, and this is an indication of how much better the X version of games will look over the Pro, then that's a strong selling point for me to upgrade to the X.

The one thing the Pro/PS4 still has is the exclusives and variety of games.

but if Rise is an accurate indication, it's hard to ignore the power difference with the X if you want the best platform to play multi-plats.

I hope more professional sites like Digital Foundry and IGN do their own comparison vids for other multi-plat games so there's more things to analyze.

Were you watching them on a 4K TV or pc? It's hard for me to tell anywhere else but when I fired it up in 4K on a big screen the differences were glaring.

How big is your TV. Also how big is your laptop and can it display 4K?

I think my tv is 42" or 45". something like that.

my laptop is 17" and no, it doesn't support 4K.

so, if I can see a difference on my non 4K laptop, what will it look like on my 4K tv??!! :drl:

I haven't got much experience of TVs that size but on 65" and 75" it's very noticeable and for me worth getting just for that difference. I imagine it would be amazing on a film projector but mine doesn't have 4K. This is why I often look at your videos a couple of days later as everything looks the same to me on a small screen (on my tablet or phone depending where I'm posting from lol).

yeah, it's harder to spot differences on smaller screens like laptops. I can't even imagine looking for differences on a tablet or phone......lol.

Do they even make 4K smartphones or tablets?

but I already could tell differences watching the vids on my laptop.

so what does that say about the power of the X? :woot:

I don't really know actually haha.

Yes I'm very optimistic after this recent stuff. Will be able to do my own tests when I get it of course.

did you manage to preorder the Scorpio edition?

There were only options to register an interest on the sites I looked at.

ah, I see.

I didn't preorder either. It seems to be unavailable at most retailer sites anyways.

I'm just going to take my chances and buy one in the wild.

not sure I'm going to get in on November 7 anyways. may wait will December or even January/February.

unless there are some tempting BF/Xmas deals.

I thought you were going to swap it for your S which had an issue?
