Which one?

I need to watch those comparison videos above on my TV to really appreciate the differences. Will save those for later, cheers.

this one

Got my Scorpio edition pre-ordered. Thrilled Quantum Break is getting a 4K patch. That and Witcher 3 I'll be most excited to replay with enhancements. Also excited for Assassins Creed for the first time ever. New combat looks like it'll play more like Horizon Zero Dawn or Tomb Raider now rather than canned animations strung together.

Awesome!! Hope you enjoy all of those.

cool!

also, found this Digital Foundry article detailing the improvements of the X version of Rise of Tomb Raider over the Pro version.

I do wonder if HDR will make its way to the Pro and X1S versions as well, or if HDR will remain exclusive to the X version.

Great!! Thanks for this. Exactly what I was looking for. All these analyses and the videos you posted yesterday, apart from getting me very excited for the X, has also got me very excited about the TR game lol.

I thought PS4 Pro had HDR? For some reason thought even the base Ps4 had HDR now.

The Pro does have HDR. As does the X1S. The Slim PS4, I believe, does support HDR, but the HDMI port it uses isn't the "high-end" HDMI that the Pro and X1S use, I don't think ( since the Slim isn't really designed for 4K tvs. ).

but HDR is supported on a game-by-game basis. It's not supported for every game.

Rise of TR, as of now, does not support HDR on the Pro or X1S.

with the X version supporting HDR, that's why I'm wondering if HDR will also come to the other platforms.

Oh sorry you were just talking about on that specific game. I hope HDR makes as much difference on games as it does on films. Combined with 4K there is potential for some seriously good looking games. I want to get some Atmos speakers at some point to see what that's like. Could be great on games that make use of it.

I'd say HDR makes a bigger, more noticeable difference than 4K and resolution.

when it makes those colors pop, it makes them pop.

though, to be fair, my 4K tv has its own "color boost" mode that makes colors more vivid across the board. It's not the same as HDR, but it's applied universally to everything. And that color boost mode does make things look better even on non-HDR games. But when HDR is supported, it makes the colors pop just a bit more.

Yeah agreed. Really glad that this tech is coming across at the same time as 4K and is being pretty much adopted across the board very quickly. When an electronics shop shows a side by side comparison of the same image with and without HDR people nearly fall over as they walk past. :woot:

yeah.

and it sounds like the X is shaping up to be a beast of a machine.

I hope Microsoft are planning to release hardware of this level going forward unlike the under par, compromised original X1. Nothing like a bit of competition to force their hand lol.

yeah, it makes you wonder what the landscape would be like if Spencer was in charge of the Xbox One launch, if the focus was on GAMES with none of the DRM/TV crap, and if the form factor of the console was more like the S with power/specs equal to or better than the PS4.

Would have been a different ball game. I think the average recovery time from having Mattrick in your organisation is about 10-15 years so Xbox has a while yet before it will be truly competitive again. :woot:

so it looks like in the upcoming dashboard update, My Games and Apps will give you more filtering options, including Xbox One X Enhanced games and 4k/HDR games.

http://4k.com/news/xbox-one-dashboard-update-lets-you-filter-content-for-4k-hdr-games-20942/

that's great news. because other than consulting a list online, it's hard to tell which games are Enhanced ( Pro/X ) or which support 4K/HDR.

now you'll be able to tell right from the console.

This is gonna be so useful!

When someone comes over you want to make sure they play at least one game with benchmark graphics/sound so at least this way you can make sure (easily).

yes.

I hope you keep your eventual X1X dude or I'll have no one to talk to in this thread. :funny:

lol.

it does seem like we are the only ones here ( for the most part ).

I guess it's up to us to hold down the Xbox Hype fort! :woot:

Haha yes. I want Microsoft to put work in making exclusives that matter to me like Uncharted, God of War and Horizon (don't need loads just some top quality ones, especially non-shooter) but otherwise I hope they stay as committed to system specs for console launches (when it matters most) as they have been with the X.

agreed. their weakness right now is the lack of AAA exclusives. There's potential for so many franchises. Not just new ones, but existing ones they can build upon - stuff like Sunset, Quantum Break, etc.

Sunset and Quantum could have been turned into flagship Xbox franchises, to go along with the Fables, Halos, Gears, and Forzas.

Yeah, and it's the persistent repeating flagship ones I think they need to boost rather than one and done titles. I would rather they go all out with 2 or 3 huge genre-leading adventure games rather than spread their resources too thinly on 10 slightly less good titles.
