Planet of the apes was just a random comparison. It could have been any random film. It was in reference to changing every single thing. Any moron would have guessed that. Don't drag race into it. I'm mixed raced and wasn't offended.

I couldn't care less what your ethnicity is. Not relevant; and any moron can decipher I'm not the one dragging race into this nor perpetuating it. Something offensive was said that linked the actress at the centre of this controversy with of all things to compare it to, a film about apes and I called it out.

I've never known Dark Raven to be racist. Maybe you should try being less 'triggered'?

yeah. they did.

and they did in SSM as well. especially with him getting into drama to impress Sha-Shan.

I know, which is why TASM did it because they did use SSM for inspiration in some regard. Flash was easily one of 'em. :oldrazz:

I have a feeling Tom and Zendaya's chemistry will be way better than Tobey and Kirsten.

That won't be hard to top. Tobey and Kirsten's chemistry was passable at best with often times cringy dialogue. Hence why many cite Andrew and Emma's Peter and Gwen as a much better couple to Tobey and Kirsten's Peter and MJ.

Also keeping in mind I never bought that Peter Parker would be in love with her Mary Jane Watson, as she was just an awful, awful character.

There was no racism on Dark Raven's part. It was a random example. You're looking way too much into it. Go outside and play.

yeah. I'm sticking up for Raven on this.

I read his post and didn't even equate the Planet of Ape reference with racist intentions. didn't even cross my mind.

I thought it was just some random, sarcastic exaggeration which Raven is known to use, if you bother to read his posts and know his style.

TASM is already starting to become a more appealing film than Homecoming.

when does this TASM movie come out?? :o :oldrazz:

Yeah, I'm sure Raven just arbitrarily picked POTA seeing it on TV. He may be a little too interested in what sexy lady can be cast in any role, but I have never seen any hints of racism in his posts.

I'm not looking way too much into anything. What he may have meant differs from what he actually ended up saying. Perhaps the problem is people like you spend too much time playing instead of being educated on the dynamics of perception. If you don't have a problem nor feel offended with what was said, then good for you; but don't make the mistake of disregarding others not acknowledging that which was said and taking offence.

That's not really hard to top, though. Heck, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone had far better chemistry, partially because of them dating in real life at the time, I'm sure, but they fit better. Maguire and Dunst didn't exactly set a high standard.

There is a long history of negative connotation when it comes to black people and apes. There are racial implications there. Thats heightened here bc the main source of contention with this casting is her race. With that said, I will give Dark Raven the benefit of the doubt as that was likely a poor choice of example to use that he didnt make the connection to before doing it

I went back and read Raven's post and he actually didn't even mention MJ or Zendaya in the Ape post. He was talking about a Spider-Man film in general in that post.

If he had been talking about all the actors who have been racechanged to blacks/minorities in the film, then used the Planet of Apes reference, I suppose I could see where one could draw the connection.

but he didn't do that at all. he was talking in generalities and about the concept of "identity." not about casting choices or anything like that in that post.

Yeah but look what thread this is in. Its easy to see how something innocent can be taken completely out of context. With that said, it not even worth discussing anymore and Chesterfield, its probably best to just move on

true. I can see that. but I also think it's looking for offense when there was none.

but yes, I agree, it's best to move on.

so, since the "news" of Zendaya playing MJ has pretty much exploded onto the internet, and the cat is already out of the bag, doesn't that negate the surprise twist/reveal? ( thanks el mayimbe!! )

do you think Marvel will still try to keep the reveal or will they actually rewrite the script to introduce us to MJ in a different way?

I said the other day that I could almost see them even cutting the big "reveal/twist" scene from the film altogether

I said the other day that I could almost see them even cutting the big "reveal/twist" scene from the film altogether

so that means, we may not even get the "big" transformation into classic MJ by the end of the 1st film??

I've wondered about that, too, because hasn't Zendaya's character been described as one that has a relatively small part in this film that will be expanded upon in future films?

And didn't El Mayimbe say in his report that they would "drop hints" Michelle is really MJ?

so, if she has a small part in this film, and they are just "dropping hints," that means we not even see her become classic MJ by the end of this film. we'd have to wait till the 2nd film or beyond.

and as you said, they may even cut the big twist/reveal......

I can't see them cutting the end scene after Gunn and Stan Lee defended the casting.

Some Spider-Man fans have their Underoos in a twist over reports Disney Channel star Zendaya is playing Mary Jane Watson in the web-slinger’s next cinematic adventure, saying the white comic book character shouldn’t be portrayed by a black actress.

But the legendary Stan Lee – who created the character of Mary Jane in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man some 50 years ago – begs to differ.

that's funny about Stan Lee.

cuz I found this article from last year.

http://hollywoodlife.com/2015/06/30...r-explains-why-sony-agreement-white-straight/

when asked about seeing more gay heroes in the future, Stan replied:

“There’s no reason not to,” he replied. “The only thing I don’t like doing is changing the characters we already have. For example, I’d like Spider-Man to stay as he is, but I have no problem creating a superhero who’s homosexual.”

was Stan just referring to making Spidey gay?? Was he only talking about not wanting to change Spidey? Is only Spidey untouchable?

I guess so, cuz now he is defending the casting of Zendaya.

seems kind of contradictory to me.........

which is why I don't put much weight into his words.
