She's Michelle Jameson, daughter of J. Jonah Jameson!
but, you can call her MJ...
and the J. in J. Jonah Jameson stands for Joanna!!

She'll be in place of John Jameson.
So she'll be an amalgamation of two people who were engaged to each other in SM2.
And Mary Jane would've been Mary Jane Jameson in SM2 had she gone through with the wedding.
But you can call her MW (for Man Wolf) or Michelle Wolf.![]()
MCU! It's all connected!

Miley Cyrus?Everything goes! Everything fits! They love it at the Chelsea! They adore it at the Ritz!
(bonus points for anyone who can guess the reference.)

God, Zendeya's performance is going to split fans down the middle. This fandom is already like a giant buttcrack![]()

Agreed. I hope that's not why they haven't revealed her last name.lol......yeah. which would be the worst option, making her "MJ" without actually being Mary Jane.
and if you think about it, just giving her the name "Michelle" with no last name is kind of a ****** cover up attempt. when the other actors give the full names for their characters, and Zendaya is just "Michelle" that does make it stand out, as harry pointed out.
at least make up a last name for her. Like Miranda Tate was a full coverup name for Talia, not just Miranda.
unless, Michelle's last name really is Johnson or Jameson or something that begins with J......![]()

I don't get what would Marvel Studios gain by changing Mary Jane's name; besides pissing thousands of fans off, of course. It'd be so apocalyptically dumb that I refuse to even entertain the idea that they'd ever actually do it.but the purist in me loathes the very idea of her being Michelle Johnson thus becoming MJ but never really Mary Jane. Just let Michelle be code and I'll live with it.
White-washed name? Really, dude. Anybody can have the name "Mary Jane" It's not an ethnic exclusive name to any particular race. If anything, giving her the name "Michelle Gonzales" would piss off people because Zendaya is NOT latino.

10 points for Gryffin----Ernesthdor!![]()
It's not that she doesn't look Latino, it's because she isn't Latino. It'd be like casting Tom Holland as Miles Morales trying to pass him off as half black and half Latino which he is not. Give that role to a real Latino actresss. And to be fair, Michelle Gonzales is an extremely obscure character who only appeared in a few issues. The only reason most people's mind went to that character is because they googled "Spider-Man Michelle" and found that character. I don't think anybody going to be disappointed when she's not Gonzales simply because nobody or rather 'hardly' anbody cared about that character in the first place.Missed my point so let me clarify:
They've given her a name "Michelle" that's synonymous with "Michelle Gonzales." At least this is the first idea of who the character might be. And who gives a crap if she doesn't look Latino. She couldn't have a black mom and a Latino father or Latino mother and a black father?
And no surnames like Johnson, Jameson, or Mary Jane in general are not owned by one race or another, but what I was trying to say is immediately when fans heard Michelle as her possible character name and the one they've been sticking with for awhile and still shows on IMDB and Jon Watts called her by in interviews, I and others immediately think she is some form of Michelle Gonzales or just a "Michelle" in general.

With good writing they could.
For all the reinvention they're doing with pre-existing characters already, they could easily reinvent Michelle Gonzales.
And who's to say genetically she got a little more traits from her mother or father? She can still be mostly black but still have some Latin in her. Hollywood has made things possible and believable time and time again regardless of who they've cast in the past for a certain race or ethnicity.
And if the sole goal it seems from this movie is to be "different" or not like what has been done in the past and for Peter to date someone non-Caucasian than why not have him date Michelle Gonzales or Gloria Grant? And just because those characters aren't well-known or recognizable names to the GA doesn't mean they can't be made that way. After all, Sally and Liz are in this; Cindy Moon might possible be in this.
Thank you, good sir!
