Homecoming The Zendaya is possibly someone, maybe thread - Part 3

That was probably one of the best posts i've seen on the Hype in a long time. Wish Marvel could've read it while they were writing the scripts.

Of course, that's assuming Zendaya is actually MJ and Rice is Betty Brant.

I really feel this going in either direction, 50/50. At times I think, there is no possible way she is MJ. Then I take a closer look at her character and think, who else can she be other than MJ?

This video pushes me in the direction of thinking she is "Mary Jane" (or Michelle Jane I guess).

The only lady Peter will be losing will be Liz, that's 100% certainty.

There was a leaked pic of the Homecoming dance scene where Peter is seen with Liz while Zendaya's character's glares in the background, so with that, at least we know Liz and Pete are still on good terms by then (or even went together).

Wow, Tom looks so much like Peter in that shot. But yeah, interesting..

If she's MJ then I'll give her a fair chance. Like I said, I don't think I really care too much anymore. I just want this movie to be really good.

I don't think anything is clear at the moment.. and those who think things are.. should probably rethink things

Agreed. Nothing is even close to "100% certain" or other ridiculous superlatives that have been flying around this thread.

They have something up their sleeve, but nothing is 100% certain.

I watched the video and while a lot what has been said is probably true, it still doesn't convince me Zendaya is MJ.

I recently re-read some of Miles comics and now I really understand how much they stole from his story. Ganke, the school, the friendship (Peter is supposed to be a loner).

So when we saw Zendaya set pic for the first time, I thought no way would Marvel bring ultimate!Kate Bishop because she belongs to Miles universe but yeah, now I think she's Kate.

Katie Bishop description: "From an early age, Kate was frequently lonely and became determined to rely only on herself. She developed a very independent, blunt, and stubborn personality.”"

That description fits Zendaya's short scene. She is alone, no friends with her at her table, while telling the boys they're being creeps, that's quite blunt.

Also this part o the trailer, where Michelle’s character is listening to their conversation reminded me of this

You can see what looks like Kate, listening to their convo.
(And look at her and her books, looking lonely and a bit weird).

Now the leaked prom stills reminded me of a panel with Miles and Kate :

Kate/"Michelle" looking at Peter/Miles from afar.

And honestly, Zendaya clothes....They look like Kate's.Now I know MJ had a gothic phase too, but she had red hair and glasses and Zendaya doesn't.
You can add that Zendaya from the set pics and the stills, has this kinda of bangs + the bun just like Kate.

The purple streak Zendaya has in her hair looks like the belt Kate is wearing on her dress.

Plus, they've been teasing Clint retreat for a little while now. First in The Avengers, then Civil War where he talked about retreat and his family.

Now maybe she will be Mary Jane but it will be just like "Ned" is actually Ganke.

That would be one of the worst options. Making the character Ganke and calling them Ned Leeds is one thing. Making the character Kate Bishop and then calling her MJ is a horrible idea.

That's what we'll probably get then. :o

For sure. But it might still happen?

We have a character who acts and looks like Ganke yet he's "Ned".
A girl who looks exactly like Gwen and is rumored to be Betty.
I wouldn't be too shock if Kate was changed into MJ now but I wouldn't like it.

i think those homecoming photos make it pretty obvious she's not having that "MJ" make-over... because while she does look pretty... still looks like a dolled up version of the girl in the cafeteria, and not the show stopping Zendaya we see on red carpets.. that is more MJ like than anything we've seen with this film

I wouldn't hate it if Peter went to school with Kate Bishop.

No reason for all this damn subterfuge if that's the case, though--which makes me think it probably isn't.

yep.

unless there's an even more drastic make-over we haven't seen, "prom Michelle" doesn't look that much different from "cafeteria Michelle."

I've said before, it's a big stretch to have a character undergo such a drastic change - not just in appearance but in personality. And the personality part is even harder.

you usually don't go from loner, dry, sarcastic introvert to outgoing, flirty, playful, alpha female extrovert. That's a transformation of total opposites. It's going from one end of the character spectrum to the other end.

such drastic transformations usually only occur after some traumatic, life changing event or experience - both in comics and real life.

Young, frail, wimpy James Howlett didn't suddenly wake up one morning and become hard ass Logan/Wolverine.

Oliver Queen didn't suddenly go from immature, foppish billionaire playboy to hard ass vigilante overnight.

In both cases, **** happened. Both Oliver and James went through traumatic, life altering experiences.

Maybe Michelle Johnson develops a split personality. She becomes Mary Jane and doesn't even know her other persona exists. It will be in total contrast to her dry and awkward character, and she will suffer blackouts increasingly towards the end of the movie as the transformation begins to take root.

And of course it'll be unintentionally funny. :o

For the buzz maybe? There's like at least one article/month about who she might be playing. Lot of free publicity here. They also might want to avoid backlash. Because that would mean that they'd take almost everything from Miles, his friends, his school, except him.

Besides, Kate is working for hydra in the ultimate comics so maybe there's a plot twist involving her character and that's why they don't want to reveal her idendity. A little bit like Johnny Depp in Fantastic Beast, her character might big too connected to the twist of the movie?

Granted it wouldn't make too much sense, but changing Ned into Ganke 2.0 didn't either and that did not stop them.

This thread will be interesting once the movie actually comes out. We will look back on this as some sort of madhouse asylum loony bin that we all lived in at one point.

Well, yeah. lol

It's more fun on the inside, though.

lol I find the Zendaya speculation to be fun. Some people turn it into something that gives them fear and anxiety. I'm just excited to see who she is playing.

Any reason why they didn't go with the Miles story? They were clearly inspired by it.

Probably because there'd be a huge backlash if they never included Peter in the MCU.

Not the only reason, of course, but I'm glad they didn't go with Miles, thank god.
