Apocalypse Things you didn't like in X-Men: Apocalypse (Spoilers)

Not sure why Magneto can again cause mass destruction, this time globally and never really pay for it. Charles just lets his old friend walk off again.

Hey, he rebuilt the man's mansion. That deserves a little slack. :cwink:

1. Not enough Lana Condor as Jubilee. Can't wait for the deleted scenes.

2. Storms motivation for Apocalypse. Would have liked that touched upon a little more.

The implication is that everyone forgave him because he helped defeat Apocalypse.

I would like for this to be touched on in future movies though. There are lot of implications left hanging from this movie that needs follow-up. Once again, the move is all solid set-up, but not a satisfying rounded film in its own right.

This is the third movie where Magneto caused tons of destruction and even death in his wake. You'd think that Xavier will hold him accountable eventually.

Didn't the government also let him walk away because Moira told them that he helped defeat the Apocalypse? LOL. Little did they know, he was responsible for the worldwide destruction!

^well, that's the biggest plothole of this movie, it seems government just forget he is a fugitive

You don't need to tag spoilers here lol.

Still i don't like quicksilver scene. They should have made it as race against the time for saving all the people inside the mansion, but singer just made it as an extended funny scene from dofp and it made havok's death impactless.

Yeah the scene was cool but God.... they made it so comedic and it was followed by Havok's death. Oh well.

I wonder if they had reshoots to fix this film.

I very much liked Shipp's portrayal and her subtle accent.

But I truely cannot believe Singer and Kinberg gave her NOTHING to do and made her wallpaper. I also found her character arc extremely questionable...She is okay with the assassination of thousands of Egyptian Muslims and only starts to question her decision because her white North American pop icon gets attacked? :loco:

Why X-Men movies do not care to portrait women and men of color at all???? We need a diversity debate for X-Men movies ASAP! What are the politics behind white bodies get positioned centrally in metaphorical discussions about marginalization?
Why are reviews silent on this issue?

Psylocke as an over-sexualized, silent Ninja henchwoman is simply offensive and super sad! :csad:

-Storm, Psylocke and Angel. Not much needs to be said here, these characters were wasted and given a disservice to their importance to the X-Men lore.

-Apocalypse. He was poorly designed and given borderline laughable motivation through the whole film. How he gains the 80's horsemen was poorly executed.

-Magento. Fassbender is a fantastic actor and does what he can but the material here for Mags murdering and wiping out cities was just ****ing stupid. As was his turn back to the X-Men.

-While I loved the Quicksilver scene, it completely upstaged Havok's death. He didn't need to die and it was executed terribly.

-The last 30 minutes of the film was a complete CGI mess with horrid composition and choreography.

- Love Rose Byrne but Moira's role was terrible.

-Maybe it's the poor script, but the editing of this film was really bad for Ottman.

Agree on everything def28. I also hated how Charles let Erik go at the end of the movie like nothing happened and he didn't kill at least thousands of people.

Yeah, kind of a big deal destroying cities like that haha. He should have had to face some very heavy consequences. Now Mags can essentially get away with any narrative.

I can totally buy Storm having no qualms about the deaths of thousands of Egyptian Muslims but having a change of heart when the North American pop culture icon gets attacked.

Speaking as someone who grew up in an Asian country with heavy exposure to Western pop culture, there are people who would feel more connected to Western celebrities than nameless people in their own country.

It's an interesting idea, one that this already overstuffed movie has no time to explore. But it will be good to explore these in future movies.

sorry, you are painting here a very disturbing image...

and they are not only nameless to her. Storm lives together with a group of children in an apartment. Are all of them monsters who deserve to die???

Are you really turning it into a race thing? What does Mystique being white have anything to do with it? Also Mystique is blue and they are MUTANTS. You know fictional characters right?

Storm looks up to mystique because she's a mutant not because she's white. Seriously dumbest thing I've read on here.

I have a few shallow complaints, but I'd have to watch it again to really pick it apart.

Too many "3D" sequences. Watching this in 2D I felt the 3D moments were forced.

The opening titles segment was a jumbled mess. I wanted the more subtle approach of DOFP and X2. Horses, planes, paintings and whatnots flying into my face for a 3D effect doesn't really get me psyched for X-Men. Was a total bummer that set me off in the wrong direction. I know it's a nitpick but the execution of small details really matter to me.

Angel was definitely misused. The scene when he first meets apocalypse was the definition of cool to me, but it never got better than that, sadly.

A "race thing"?! no need to get defensive...

seriously you don't see the racism here? maybe get some education about the history of racism in cinema please and how women of color are usually depicted in common racist frameworks. This is not a new racist tajectory. You really think it is a coincidence that white women become the lead while women of color are silenced and sexualized in the backrgound????

Which person is looking up to which person here matters!

You think it is a coincidence that white (mainly male and straight) bodies become centralized in metaphorical fictional discussions about discrimination??? You don't see the contradiction here? Maybe you are unaware of this but who do you think is controlling these "fictional" movies behind the scenes? dominantly WHITE MALES!

gosh! IT IS A "RACE THING"!

Its because they sidelined the first three horsemen once Magneto was recruited. I'm really curious if they filmed more scenes with those three that had them open their mouth and say a couple of words. I don't even know why they cut some bits from the Beast VS Psylocke fight scene, I thought a lot of the 1 on 1 fight scenes were quickly done. Like its the horsemen.... they had an opportunity to give us a fierce fight like in X2 with Wolverine vs Deathstrike.

1- Apocalypse required an "Origin" scene... more background.
2- Beast's make-up should be improved.
3- Storm needed more screentime and more development.
4- The Wolverine cameo was filmed badly. Hugh looked too slim, those ripped trousers were terrible and the cinematography for that sequence was unconvincing.
5- More effects, more "pathos" and more dramatic score while Phoenix was disintegrating Apocalypse.

Other than that, the movie was beautiful.

Balancing screen time in the movie has always been Singer's Archille's Heel. You'd think that after directing so many X-Men movies, he'd learn how to do it by now. The Russo Bros. did it far better in both of their Marvel movies.

Everyone knows the third movie is always the worst....

Still with all they are tryng to tale, still is nice the movie hold up so well. it is also a synchronic way of constructing story. For examples Apocalypse has Storm (wich admire Mystique), Angel (a bird symbol, like Jean's Phoenix who is not free becuz of Charles) and Erik lost his "home" (his daughter connected to nature, Apocalypse want to destroy civilization); It's all linked!

Listen. Don't talk to me about race because I am not a white male. Ok I know what racism is so don't talk to me about eduction. You're taking a fictional comic book adaptation and turning it into something that is isn't. The characters are white. Look to the source if you have an issue with it not the movie. What do you want them to do cast all actors of colour in these roles. I don't know about you but there's Oscar Isaac, Alexandra Shipp, Landa Condor, Olivia Munn who are all mixed race. Oh look 3 of them are women. So Jean and Mystique are played by white actresses and they get to speak but they cast a half black half white woman and half Asian half while woman but they dont get to say as much so the creators are racist because they didn't give them much dialogue? Is that what you're getting at? Or because Psylocke is wearing an outfit that's comic accurate means she's sexualized. An outfit that the actress told the director to do. So what is she in the wrong because she's allowing herself to be sexualized?

- Apocalypse was aesthetically striking and I liked how his origins were steeped in mythology but besides all of that surface texture, there's not much there.

- I'm definitely feeling some Jennifer Lawrence fatigue. I really liked the Psylocke/Apocalypse twist, but I could live without the rest of her performance.

- The Wolverine cameo was unnecessary. It was cooler in theory than in execution.

- I hate to be a party pooper, but the first Quicksilver scene wore out it's welcome pretty quickly. I thought the second bullet-time sequence where he was punching Apocalypse was much more effective, but I'm not sure it will be as talked about. Neither can hold a candle to the Pentagon sequence from DOFP, though. I actually thought a lot of the humor in this film fell flat compared to the previous X-men movies.

- Moira as the catalyst for waking up Apocalypse left me scratching my head. He has a cult of worshippers but none of them knew how to resurrect him, it just accidentally happened? I'm not going to count this against the movie, but it raised my eyebrow.

- I'm not a CG snob but there were some very poor effects.

- Giving Magneto a family was a really bad move. I'd argue one of the biggest flaws in the movie. We all knew right from the start that they were going to die, but as it turns out, dying was really their only purpose.
