It's not who we wanna see but who is big.in the industry.

No, I think that comes into play. If she's such a big star now and her only role to this point has been as an annoying comedy sidekick, they might not even feel like paying her to show up this time around. Remember when they got rid of Terrence Howard rather than pay him more money?

And notice what he said. He made sure to note this will feel nothing like the past 2 Thor movies, and then made sure to say that most of the movie will take place away from Earth this time. It's not an accident. He knows what didn't work in the last movie, which is why he said this one will be totally different and then specified that Earth will have a much lesser presence. It was a diplomatic way of addressing the complaints from those who felt Jane, her friends, and Earth had way too much screentime in the last film.

Some awesome news, and people still want to discuss about Darcy...

Not enough room for the Three Stooges in Thor 3.

I would've hoped Feige's recent comments would foster a bit more optimism but the usual negativity prevails. I guess you guys missed the part where Feige said "It's going to be, perhaps, as totally different from the two prior Thor movies as Winter Soldier was from the first Captain America. We want to take it to new places, we've got new characters that will show how big we're swinging on this."

nothing about the comments above necessarily means we'll be getting a more serious film, especially in light of Hemsworth's GOTG comments and the rumor that Taika was hired to add more levity to the film. His comments about less Earth are the main thing that's reassuring.

I dunno, I'm hopeful for the next film, Thor is my favorite Avenger, but this is the one series that it seems like they don't have a full and perfect grasp on how to do it. The other series all seem to have their niche, their little spot in the MCU. GOTG is funny space adventure, Cap has the political thriller thing going on, Doc Strange seems to be on its way to having its own separate little genre too. I don't see whats so hard about going all in on the Fantasy genre for Thor. But no, instead its an "adventure road trip" and supposedly will surprise people who go in expecting Ragnarok from the comics. That's not what I was hoping to hear, is all.

Not gonna lie - for me she has had her moments. It's just that I'd like to see them move away from the whole Darcy comic relief act.

She was good in the first one
but it was tired by the second movie

I thought she was great in both. But yes, if they wanted to bring her in again.. I think they should make something out of her role... weren't there theories that she was really Hela or Enchantress at one point?

not saying i want that.. but it'd be interesting to make her useful if they did bring her back

The reason the tides turned against the human characters in Thor 2 was that people wanted to see more of Asgard and the Asgardian characters. Instead we had Jane and her friends chewing up screentime that could have gone to fleshing out Lady Sif and the Warriors Three.

It sounds like they learned their lesson a bit this time by mentioning there will be new characters, presumably from places other than Earth.

I think those are the easy "go-to" scape goats... for the real issue.. Malekieth didn't need to be attacking earth for one, he wasn't the best villain, and for how awesome and creepy the dark elves looked.. they were basically as threatening as a storm trooper

We got more than enough stories to have with human characters & Earth....with Thor, I think fans want more of the cosmic realm of characters, civilizations, & galactic circumstances. Give us one character that will center on that...and that is obviously Thor. So Ragnarok is a welcomed alternative.

I sure want more cosmic Thor, Although I actually liked Dark World's story and my main problem was the humor, in particular Darcy and the Processsor

I want beta ray to show up in this.

Totally agree.

I'm all for Marvels earth-based heroes but its the cosmic, space-based characters that float my boat. Would love to see the likes of Beta Ray Bill, Nova, Captain Marvel on screen and they now have access to Silver Surfer - I hope they use them; seems like Thor and Guardians would be the natural place to see them. And the Inhumans of course.

When did they get Surfer back?

Thought he was part of the FF deal?

EDIT: OK, now I'm confused - after doing some digging not only am I doubting the Surfer thing but I can't even find any confirmation of Marvel getting the FF rights back. Did it actually happen or was it just rumour???

??? Yeah...I don't recall That happening....that would be big news like when Marvel got shared rights with Spidey.

There were loads of sites reporting around October that Marvel were getting the rights back and it seems they were inaccurate.

Sadly.

There were a lot of places making assumptions based on fanboy logic at the time but the more trusted and accurate trades were pretty mum on the subject. It's a bit moot since it's quite likely FOX will not be making any new FF films so the reversion in film rights is going to play out as it's supposed to and then Marvel will have to decide how to recoup any value from FF after Fox has tried 3 times to make something really profitable from the first family of Marvel.

Well, we can have the discussion about what Fox wants to do and what Marvel should do when the rights revert seven years from now. Until then, there's not much point speculating on that.
