Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - Part 10

This exchange between Thor, Valkyrie and Hulk just cracks me up every time. Their reaction to each other words is just hilarious. Chris Hemsworth shines with his timing and maneirism. Valkyrie sarcasm also sells it so well. Banner is like "yeh sure whatever you say Thor and then he is like where am I?"

Are we sure though? Looks like he had a shield to me.

It looks like he's twirling Mjolnir, but how much of his body can that really protect ?

Also, in the full trailers we see a shot of Thor taking the fire blast full on with only his arm out in front of him. He's clearly uncomfortable, but it's not harming him or injuring him in any way.

Didn't Thor also barely shield himself from the leviathan blowing up in the first Avengers? I recall him just taking the blast.

This movie has a ton of action set pieces and all look insane. The visuals and concepts are just breathtaking. Marvel really went "All in" with this movie. It's so refreshing the amount of new and bold choices that just work perfectly. Hat's off.

Just put his arm up to the blast. Cap covered the widow using his sheild to protect them.

He's also taken full hits from the Hulk, a repulsor blast point blank to his face, Kurse battered him, and he withstood the explosion of the city in AOU too. Thor's a tough cookie.

Do we know what causes Surtur to grow? Could it be an Infinity Stone?

Because it looks like there could be something in it's head similar to Vision.

Surfer
We don't really know if he indeed grows or not. We are assuming he does because of set images and the small glimpses we have seen of him. It looks like he is 2 different sizes but we could be wrong. What would cause Surtur to grow would be most likely the "Eternal Flame" which is in Odin's vault and belongs to Surtur. Surtur has a faceplate.

I remember watching a GIF of him raising his arm against the exploding Leviathan and I came to conclusion from the look on Hemsworth face that the only thing really bothering him from that is the brightness of the explosion. He's really only shielding his eyes.

Confirmed, Thor has sensitive eyes but is otherwise indestructible. :P

(Though I'm going to assume that Surtur's fire actually does hurt him to a degree. Still a tough cookie but being engulfed by a fire god's flamethrower isn't going to be a relaxing day at the spa for anyone, unless you're Human Torch I guess.)

There's much more new footage and tidbits that one might assume by just watching it "on the go". Most of the same scenes from this TV Spot are longer and the CGI has also improved if you make a direct comparison. It's sharper in terms of colors and overall look.

Just to mention a few details i noticed by looking at it in a more detailed manner.
- There are banners on the side of the arena. They almost look like a skull but on a closer look it's the Grandmaster's tower and the circular shape is most likely the arena.
- Hulk has another big ass weapon on his room. A scary looking spiked mace and a spear by the looks of it.
- Looking closely at the Thor vs Surtur moment. Thor seems to be spinning mjolnir around in front of him in that typical circular manner. Like when he is going to fly off somewhere. In this case he seems to be using as a defense move.
- The one jumping from the Commodore spaceship is Valkyrie. And she is jumping to one of the spaceships following them. Badass moment.

Yep, way more than on previous Thor films, and more than pretty much all the MCU films.

I love the new TV spot, the visuals look incredible! :drl: Haha, the 'Revengers'. :hehe: It reminds me of that spoof version of the trailer when Thor's trying to come up with a name for his team and he keeps coming up with names that are already taken like 'Justice League'.

Thor: How about this? There are four of us, and we're pretty fantastic.
Valkyrie: *groans*

I really like that shot of Valkyrie jumping from that back of the Commodore.

I've always wondered how "superhuman" she's going to look in the film, I hope she's portrayed well above the likes of Gamora, Drax, and Captain America.

Very interesting and more in depth information about Odin.

THOR: RAGNAROK: ODIN KNEW OF COSMIC THREATS THAT THOR AND LOKI DIDN'T

The movie will reveal Loki banished Odin (once again played by Sir Anthony Hopkins) to Earth, where Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki will end up seeking him out as he wanders the streets of Manhattan.

Winderbaum explained that "what Thor comes to learn early on is that there's a lot of terrible things in the cosmos that just shouldn't be that way. And we learn that Odin was doing far more than it seemed on the surface to keep the universe safe. That there were all these threats that he had quelled or was keeping at bay, using his strength and power to do so, that Loki was completely unaware, unprepared for."

Winderbaum also said that while the trickster god "achieved his goals" in finally winning the throne, it proves a bittersweet victory for Loki: "So he becomes the King of Asgard, everything is great, it's a good party, but he failed to realize the threats that were just over the horizon, Hela being the biggest and most terrible one of all."

For his part, Loki actor Tom Hiddleston stressed that "Loki's feelings towards his family members are complex" and that he "never conceived of Loki's emotional connections to Odin or Thor as malevolent. He just wants to have a go, on the throne, which he does."

Mmm, Loki is still an evil psychopath though

Thor has shielded himself from a *lot* of stuff via either hammer parry or hammer spinning. I think the only thing to date to actually overcome his blocking was Kurse, via his "screw you Hulk" strength.

My read is that, without blocking it, it would indeed hurt Thor, albeit not to an "I am screwed" level. Blocking it turns an attack that would hurt significantly into an attack that doesn't, which is really important when fighting somebody who can kill you, given the opportunity.

Villains with complexity to them are far more interesting to watch. I'm glad they plan to continue that.
