Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - - Part 11

As long as we're sharing what makes us nervous, when I read that it's like Flash Gordon I felt the earth move under me. Not in a good way, I loathed that movie.

But I don't believe this will be like that.

I agree, The Russo brothers are my favorite MCU directors definately have the best balance of action, comedy, and humor.

I'm not gonna lie. The Russos are one of the best things to ever happen to the MCU. I personally enjoy the humor in the other films more but The Winter Soldier and Civil War are of such exceptional quality they elevate the rest of the universe and add some much needed gravitas. I think they were the perfect choice for the grand finale to drive this whole thing home.

But I also think the MCU is more than the sum of its parts - and contributions from Favreau, Branagh, Whedon, Gunn, etc. have all helped to create a multi textured world that can shift from film to film but still keep continuity. It sounds like Ragnarok is totally Taika's voice. If there's room for it in the Marvel universe and it all works, well I think that's pretty awesome.

Imo Guardians of the galaxy vol.2 is better than the first. Even with it's faults. The emotional core of that film > the rest of the MCU, sure
... it has a lot of comedy... and not all of it lands all the time. But it also has some of the most emotional moments and some of the darkest subjects in any mcu film too. I personally love it more than the 1st.

Same

don't agree on TDW, however do agree on age of ultron, high five!

Haha well I'm know I'm in the minority on that one. But I do love TDW - warts and all. Not ashamed to admit it.

And yeah Age of Ultron was great. I still geek out when I watch Thor, Iron Man and Vision combine their might to take down Ultron. Comic book come to life man.

I like Age of Ultron more than the first Avengers.

Only thing that really bothered me about AoU were some of Ultron's lines. Like the children one. OH, and the language bit. That was funny Tony brought it up, and that's where it should have ended.

I love Ultron's lines, I just wish he had more powers.

Yeah, agreed. That's why I'm still holding out hope for him to return in some way in the future. Which may feel like a retread, though, for a movie universe. Unless they did a Masters of Evil kind of thing.

I have a feeling the comedy in this will connect with the masses but give ammunition to the those who think the MCU doesn’t take anything seriously.

Meh whatever, plenty of serious movies to see, even some serious mcu films... they can go watch Logan and cut themselves after they watch ragnarok lol

Know he's probably a small cameo but I hope DS has a cool moment in this

Fine by me. I'm watching Thor fight the Hulk in space. I'm kinda over all the expectations to take this stuff so seriously all the time.

I'm only expecting a super-short cameo, but yeah hopefully a cool moment.

Forget about those people. They don't need any ammunition. They conflate "dark" and "serious" with "deep" and "meaningful." Never mind that it's possible for a film to be both dark and shallow or serious yet meaningless.

Hopefully Strange does something and doesn't just say a few lines. I'm one of the few who was disappointed in how much Iron Man was in Homecoming. It would also be nice to see how much DS has grown (depending on how much time has passed)

Yeah, I think GotG2 was the first time I ever got a bit choked up in an MCU movie because of that finale.

Both Guardians movies have powerful emotional scenes. The death of Peter's mom was a rough moment, right off the bat, which was the perfect way to open Vol. 1. Yondu's death and funeral were even more meaningful as the summation of his redemption arc and Peter's realization of who his real father and family were. I don't think that Gunn gets enough credit for the way he has woven themes of family, loss, and emotional connectedness through the GOTG series. Perhaps the humor obscures that for some, but for me it enhances and deepens the relationships. There are awkward moments but they arise from character and mirror the sometimes clumsy way that real people deal with each other.

Agree 100%

He'll see be making a cool entrance at least with that floating entrance he makes in one of the earlier international trailers.

Exactly this. They're my favorite MCU movies for this very reason (Homecoming is close at the moment). I can see how Gunn's humor, though it works great for me most of the time, can be seen as annoying and too juvenile, but he really nails the characters and their dramas in a subtle, elegant way. This is even more apparent in Vol. 2 and I'd like to single out Nebula and Gamora's relationship, which I find refreshing because it plays out in a way you wouldn't expect and makes Nebula much more interesting than what she looked in the first GOTG. The way she turns the tables on Gamora and raises the point that all she ever wanted was for Gamora to be there for her really hits home for me. I'd also point out how sad is Yondu's introduction in the movie, even before he meets Starhawk. He's at some kind of robot brothel looking at the window with a face that screams nothingness. I just find it so eerie and sad.

As for Ragnarok's humor, as much I like Gunn - and yes, I like A LOT - I'd say where probably getting a much more "refined" brand with Taika. His movies have such an offbeat, absurd sense of humor that hits me like a mixture of Wes Anderson, Edgar Wright and Monty Python. I expect something truly funny, not the forced humor some might be dreading. He's probably my favorite director to ever helm a superhero movie. So yeah, no pressure. :woot:

The cast play Ragnarok-Paper-Scissors

(This simple game gets confusing and goes on for way too long. Lol)

Did anyone see the article today from the Thor premier?
Ruffalo mistakenly live streamed the whole thing. "oops"

YESSS Marvel Studios will never allow him to use his Phone ever again :woot: has someone heard the leaked audio?

Do you guys think Taika will return for another Marvel movie? Cause I read a tweet from Jeff Sneider, dated Sept 19th, saying Taika is "getting tired of the machine". Not sure how valid that claim is, but if it's true, I'm worried about how much freedom he was given with the movie.
