Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - - - - Part 13

Can you use it on IMAX? Or IMAX 3D? How do you now the participating movie theaters? I went to their website and didn't see it there.

No, not on IMAX or 3D. Pretty much every theater participates in my area and you can check on the movie pass site or even your theaters website

I went back and watched Thor, Avengers, TDW, AoU over the weekend and then saw Rag again last night. There's been alot of talk about Thor being a different character in this one and I categorically disagree with that now.

Go back and watch all of those films and there's one version of Thor that is way out of place, and it's TDW. TDW was dead serious Thor. There's virtually no humor what-so-ever out of Thor, and it may be because they left all the comedy bits to Darcy.

If anything Thor in this film goes back to what he was in Thor 1. But it's really TDW where Thor is a very different character.

It's an interesting observation and it sounds like it could right when I think about it. I'm going to do the same, but I think I'll wait to make it a Thor semi-marathon when it's released on digital home video.

Guys, he's super corny in this just admit it. There's nothing wrong with it (personally I found it hilarious) but his innocence from the original movie is stripped. This film parodies everything that had come before it it in a Mel Brooks kinda way.

I watched Thor, TDW, and AoU and he felt different to me. He was just a lot more goofy in Ragnarok at certain times.

I certainly can't agree that this was anything like a Mel Brooks film. Completely different things to me.

As for Thor having innocence in the first film, I'm not sure I'd use that word. He was an arrogant, war thirsting, spoiled prince when we first got to meet him.

Oblivious might be a better word than innocent. He really did start a war (after being given an opening to do so by Loki's jackassery) and unlike both Odin and Laufey, he wasn't registering that war is a Bad Thing. After the crucible of the last few years, he's clear.

Did anyone else get a chuckle from that silly looking chair Thor was strapped to by the Grandmaster during their interaction?

I loved the guided tour and the scream at the end of it.[/BLACKOUT]

Tom Holland was pretty excited about Thor Ragnarok.

Yeah I don't agree with that. He was true to character. There were plenty enough humorous moments with Thor - even if he played more of the straight man most of the time.

And if he was serious - I mean jeez he had reasons - his girlfriend was dying, his mother was murdered, he didn't want to be king, wasn't happy doing his duty, he was not seeing eye to eye with his father, then he loses his brother who he doesn't even know how he even feels about, and just maybe the end of all existence was on his mind.

I mean you can't have it both ways. You can't say a movie called the Dark World had too much humor and then say it was too serious.

YES! Completely agree. I watched TDW last night and loved it even more than the first few viewings. It's far from a perfect movie (all MCU films are, even though I love all of them), but it had emotion, a few good laughs, amazing CGI and a villain that wasn't any worse than a handful of other MCU villains. TDW gets way too much hate.

@HD, just a heads up. Tom Holland swears in that video.

Yay! A fellow fan. I say this all the time LOL. TDW was so unfairly maligned it's ridiculous.

It's not unfair at all.

- They gutted Malekith in the editing suite
- The 3rd act is one of the weakest in all of the MCU and it was tainted by really forced Darcy punchlines. One scene that always sticks out in my mind is the slow-mo shot of Jane/Selvig running from the Dark Elves - so cringeworthy.
- They didn't deliver on the "trip around the realms" they promised
- The action sequences were bland. The opening CGI battle sequence was better than anything they gave us for the rest of the film

The whole convergence stuff just wasn't interesting at all. Frigga's funeral was done really well though and I thought Borr was an absolute badass. Wish we could've gotten more of him.

Thor is in two completely different states of mind in TDW and TR. In the former he is reluctantly taking his role as prince/protector of the Nine Realms,he just wants to be on Earth with Jane. In Ragnarok he totally embraces the "space cowboy" role after spending a lot of time between Earthlings,Avengers and not, and adjusting to their mannerism even further. He's confident, sure of himself, pompous and yes, more human. Every aspect of his character shown in the previous movies contributes to the version in Ragnarok. I think his arc works pretty well through the movies.

See? Another hater. LOL. :cwink:

I know it has its flaws but I still enjoyed it immensely. It hit a lot of the right notes for me. I liked the convergence stuff and I like the Scooby gang so sue me.

But you're not wrong on the opening sequence offering the best action. I believe Tim Miller actually directed that opening sequence. But I still think the battle through the portals and confused Mjolnir was a hoot.

I liked Ragnarok a lot - but I have to watch it again to assess Thor's characterization with fresh eyes. Still processing this change. I mean I'm glad people are liking Thor more for it but the MCU has so many quippers already. Meanwhile, I'm the kind of guy that wishes he said "doth" and "Have at thee!" even if that makes absolutely no sense. But I'm willing to compromise. In the end I just want a good movie.

Borr was AWESOME, he was more badass in that one film than Odin has been in the entire MCU.

Please please please please Marvel Studios give us more Borr.

Loved the Collider Heroes spoilers review of Thor Ragnarok. That's exactly how i felt watching this movie. And that's why it ranks so high in my MCU ranking. I loved Thor Ragnarok. :yay:

Yeah, I'd love to see Grandmaster meeting up with Collector at some point.

Well there is a piece of Artwork that shows Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster playing cards with Benicio Del Toro's the Collector on the Guardian's of the Galaxy ride at California Adventure. I know it is not official, but other things have been connected like the Dragon on that ride was in Thor Ragnarok. So, here is hoping that we see them together soon.

Borr was awesome, but I would prefer more Odin. And I know I know, but with the Infinity Stones anything is possible. So, there is always hope.
