Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - - - - Part 13

Oh, yay. More scenes that should have had an actual emotional impact, but were instead played for comedy.

I can only guess they cut it out because they did enough of that in every other scene in this movie.

I suspect this scene was cut because it no longer fit the story continuity - Thor says his sister killed his father, which perhaps she did when their meeting took place in the alley in NY, but once it was moved to Norway and Odin "died" before Hela arrived this no longer made sense. Also, someone decided the "God of Hammers" line worked better with Odin saying it to Thor when he needed a confidence boost at the climax, rather then Banner saying it here where it has less impact.

Well well well... Check this deleted scene out. Now for the important part...

"I didn't miss my father's death because he was murdered right in front of me, by my sister, whom i didn't know existed because she was kept a secret from me my hole life."

So i guess that alley scene played out quite differently. I guess what was shot first was Hela killing Odin but then they decided to change it with Odin passing in his own terms.

"Goldblum hentai" is a phrase I never thought I'd write. :funny:

I wish Taika had been able to edit it a bit and loop the dialogue to make it fit the revisions. But at least we got to see it in all its freaky glory. :omg:

I keep going back to watch favorite scenes from Ragnarok whenever I'm bored, as I did late this evening when I got home, and most of the times I end up watching most of the film. :woot:

Great, I just Googled "hentai." Thanks a lot.

:funny:

That deleted scene... :lmao:

Interesting that Hela was the one to kill Odin in the original cut, I guess that means she must have broken herself out of her imprisonment rather than Odin's death being the trigger in the final cut.

So I finally got around to watching this last night finally. And to my surprise and relief the comedy didn’t ruin it for me. Maybe a quick moment or two where I think it was kinda unnecessary or they could’ve held back and let a serious moment breathe. But other than that I loved it easily the best of the Thor franchise.

Visually stunning love all the designs and colors. Grandmaster was awesome, Hulk was amazing. Really loved Thor in this too and his relationship with Hulk/Banner. Valkyrie was cool, Loki again amazing as usual and Hela was a great villain. 8.5/10 for me.

I always love hearing people's first time reactions to Ragnarok, hopefully we get some more first timers around these parts once the DVD/Blu-ray is released sharing their opinions. :yay:

That scene is pretty crazy lol.

Glad they cut it out. That scene was total cringe.

Nice

Just watched this again, and I have to say I love how active of a protagonist Thor really is in this movie. The entire plot is completely driven by his actions save for maybe one or two things, which is quite refreshing since a lot of heroes lately seem to be more reacting to things that happen to them.

I agree. Taika saying that if the film is called Thor then Thor needs to be the best character certainly wasn't just something he said, he really did make the stories and supporting characters center around him.

Taika also balances Thor well in that while he made him funnier, he also made him smarter.

The big crime of the DVD/Blu-ray release is the complete lack of the original Odin death scene.

Sure they throw a handful of deleted "funny stuff", but the scene most would like to see is MIA.
oh wait -- the Phase 3 box set. Yes. "Repurchase 10 movies and we'll throw in some extras."

Save my money for later. Got it.

I agree. I really liked Thor this time around. I enjoy the first movie a lot, but I never really cared for the character all that much in his following appearances. This is probably the first time where I was actively rooting for him the whole movie.

What's truly amazing about this movie is that if this was slightly out of tone, if what they did shifted to a wrong place like Speed Racer or something like that, the film could've been a disaster. But it hits all the right notes, it keeps moving and moving and the characters actually have arcs.
I think they lost some of the "cosmic road trip" aspect they teased a few years ago. Wish it had a bit of that. It sounded really good.

Thor was definitely much smarter in this film, unlike Thor 1 and TDW.

While i liked it, i didn't like it as much as GOTG, or Thor 1.

I agree. We know for a fact that it was filmed and a lot of the CG must have been at least mostly finished because of the trailers, I don't understand why they couldn't have included it amongst the deleted scenes, it would have been really interesting to see the difference between it and the final version.

“Gambling with a camel” “Camping?” “That’s not so bad.” :woot:
That hole exchange with Thor, the Grandmaster and the cousin was great. Shame it wasn’t in the movie.
