Thor: Ragnarok The Official News and Speculation Thread - Part 5

This year is shaping out to be one of the, if not the, best year ever for comic book movies... And good ones. Lego Batman was well received, Logan reviews are really good, soon we get GOTG 2 coming out and i would be shocked if it wasn't a hit all over again...

Plus Wonder Woman, Spiderman - Homecoming, our Thor Ragnarok, Justice League... Tuff competition all around.

My only real concern about Hulk appearing is that it might lead to the Asgardian cast once again being woefully underused. Because after two movies, they've done very like with said cast. And with Hulk in the mix, I fear that they STILL might not get their do, which would be a shame.
We still have not scene Asgard as a full fledged city. I wish they showed more than the castle they live in and the Bifrost bridge area.

I doubt the Warrior 3 are in it that is why Valhalla is in this.

You're in luck. They actually built a massive set of Asgard for this movie.

Not that IMDb is a secure source, but it lists Sif, Volstagg and Hogun as confirmed. That fits with some of the things I've seen stated unofficially so I think they will be in it. And just for correctness sake, I assume you mean Valkyrie. :)

It would be nice to see the 3 and Sif one last time. I just thought Alexander was busy with her show. Yes, Valkyrie is who I was referring too, name just slipped my mind. Valhalla is one of the places haha, yes I expect Valkyrie to replace Sif in the bad ass female warrior role.

I think that's based on the fact that Jaime Alexander tweeted something along the lines of 'Don't worry' when the Ragnarok press release came out without her name on it, and the actors playing Volstagg and Hogun both made social media posts from the set confirming they are indeed in the film in some capacity. No word on Fandral yet (and whether it will be Zachary Levi or Josh Dallas, or indeed a third different actor playing him), but I can't imagine they would have two members of the Warriors Three without the third.

Yes, I remember those but I wasn't sure if anything more than that had surfaced. As you say, it feels extremely unlikely that they wouldn't have Fandral in when the others are. I would assume they use Levi unless there's any complications that prevent it.

Shocked that we still haven't gotten an official still from this film yet.

I think they may be waiting for the teaser trailer to drop first, which I can understand. I actually quite like that we don't know much about how the new characters look and the visual style of the film yet, I think it will make that first trailer even more exciting when we finally get a precious glimpse of what we're in for.

Very interesting quote from Hiddles about the tone of Ragnarok:

"Taika has a huge heart and he's so precise, he's a uniquely hilarious individual with a great warm hearted spirit, but he's also very precise about depth and emotion when its needed, so i think it will have a perfect balance," he said. "Certainly when we were shooting it had this wonderful irreverence which I think he brings, but at the same time Ragnarok is about destroying what exists and creating something new and he's certainly done that."

The 'creating something new' part is intriguing, I wonder what he means? Also, I hope this helps to calm some people's fears that the movie will be too comedic, a good balance is definitely what it needs. :yay: Taika's wonderful, off-beat, irreverent humour (which is nothing like the less subtle humour in the previous Thor films) balanced with heart, depth, emotion and big stakes sounds just like I wanted from this so I'm definitely happy.

Fin with all due respect i think you are too focused on damage control. You want people to embrace this movie that you try to put fires out. You don't need to do PR for Taika.

His tone won't be accepted by everyone. There are people who want a darker Thor. They are not gonna get it with that film. Accept it and you will be more relaxed.

2.45 in the first video. He talks a lot about TR in the second.

And those videos are supposed to put people at ease? One of the first things he says is that he found a way to make Thor's world "hilarious". There is no way to throw that phrase around and not upset people.

And i understand why. I don't need Thor's world to be hilarious. Just because Guardians worked doesn't mean everything in the cosmic side has to be funny.

If you posted those videos to reassure people, i think they will backfire on your expectations.

Yeah. The new creation concept is from the mythology and Odin is killed by Fenris Wolf (Fenrir). Maybe Thor inherits the Odin force. If so, I think we'll be seeing more of him. Hopefully the Migard Serpent isn't in Ragnarok or else we'll be one short during IW. :woot:

The movie will be what it will be. If people want to form a preconceived notion before seeing it, that's their business. Some people "may" want a darker version than Taika will depict, but funny doesn't mean fluff. It can be both funny and dark. Just because one wants a "darker" version also doesn't mean they won't like the movie if it is less dark than they originally wanted it.

No matter what comes across the screen, some will like it and some won't. I trust Taika will make a good movie and it won't look like some of the sloppy messes we've seen recently.

Time will tell and I think it's a little early (and picky) to predict what the movie will be like. With some movies, you can get some clues, but I don't see the writing on the wall just yet.

I worry that Marvel has looked at the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, the relative critical failure of The Dark World, and just assumed that they needed to lighten Thor up in order to make it successful at a time when it needs that least of all. I can only hope that these comments about the humour in the film are being overblown, because if the Thor that Taika has shown us so far is the Thor we'll be getting in the movie then I don't think Marvel will be getting any of my money this time.

The Team Thor are parodies. It's not what Thor will be like in the film. They are exagerrated mockumentaries. That's not a concern for me.

My concern is that this will be a divisive movie based on the tone. I truly believe it will be a great movies because i have seen all of Taika's films. I wholeheartely believe that. But it will be divisive which is not what Thor needs as a closing chapter.

My arms are very much open to a darker, more solemn Thor.
Think Sam Neil's character from Taika's last movie. Though, in all likelihood, that's gonna be Bruce Banner.

I trust Taika will make a good movie and it won't look like some of the sloppy messes we've seen recently.

The successes of Whedon's, Black's and Gunn's (all of whose I find pretty displeasing to say the least).
Waititi on the other hand, made some of darkest comedies I've seen in a long while with some very serious stakes and drama thrown in especially with Wilderpeople. His comment of something along the lines of making even this cosmic road trip feel human makes me excited for possibly one of the best MCU flicks to date. Like "GOTG, but superior" in every conceivable way if any of you guys are into that.

Sucks the mockumentary style is non-canon, but good to see Waititi getting troll before he really gets going.

The MCU has been successful for the last 9 years so your first statement makes little sense. Yes GOTG was a success but lets not act like it was the 1st Marvel movie with a lot of humor. The Dark World also had humor a lot of it. That movie was missing a good villain or competent one because Malekeith will rank as one of the worst ever. They also didn't use the reality stone well enough. I will still see Thor 3 the Thursday it is out, I just don't go into Thor movies hyped.

I'm not doing 'damage control' or 'PR' for anyone, I posted a new interview with a cast member talking about the film and then shared my opinion on what he said, which, last time I checked was the actual purpose of this thread, you know rather than attacking other posters because they don't share the same doom and gloom outlook as you.

Please get over yourself, condescending ass isn't a good look on anyone.

This statement makes no sense.

I was thinking as much about the mid-credits scene in Doctor Strange as anything else. Thor seemed to have had a personality transplant, unless that is actually Loki as many have theorized...

Go ahead and worry. I think the Marvel crew is smart enough to figure out how to make a movie without having it be the rather lighthearted romp that was GotG (which I loved). CW, for example, struck a completely different tone. I doubt they'll make the mistake that other studios make and try to copy one of their successful movies. They have chosen several different tones and, in all likelihood, will continue to do so.

Y'all certainly spend a lot of time worrying over things you have no control over.

Those videos are not suppose to put people at ease with anything. I stopped giving ****s about trying to ease the "humor drama" surrounding this movie. People take what they want from these videos, i couldn't care less now if they become all burned out and go crying around about the damn subject.

I posted the videos because they we're related to Thor Ragnarok. That's it! As i normally do with all the stuff i found related with the movie. I post here and people take whatever they want from it. If they wanna restart the "humor drama" all over again, then go ahead and knock yourselves out, i am not giving any single more cent to that pointless conversation.
