Freaking gorgeous fanart!!!

All the reasons why using a "Real" Mandarin were a bad idea then, still apply. If you care about a Chinese villain wearing Chinese robes with the name 'The Mandarin', its never going to happen, not so long as the early Iron Man comics were heinously racist and the Chinese government censors foreign releases.

.

Yep, the only place you have a chance of seeing such a villain is actual Chinese movies.

Haha, good point.

Amazing to see the art, the sculptures, the buildings, streets, throne room, Hulk bed... And to hear more about the movie and it's inspiration. :yay:

Cool video. Shows that there is actually a lot of practical work and not just green screen backgrounds etc.

That Hulk fist popcorn bucket is pretty cool. And I want all those little figures.

They built massive sets for this movie and i am sure it will give it a grand look in a lot of scenes because the cast is just going to be able to walk around, fight, interact... in real settings like a massive square in Asgard, the roads and alleys of Sakaar, the garbage mountain dumps of Sakaar, the Earth sets, the asgardian throne room...

One of the things that excites me the most in terms of certain sets and particular scenes is seeing Hela interaction with the asgardian army in Asgard. I think that's going to be a huge scene for Hela and how ruthless she will be and later on we'll also see her interact with Skurge and the asgardians citizens in the same spot. It's all in a real set.

If one thing Disney owned Marvel Studios should learn from the Disney owned Star Wars franchise is that models and sets built with human hands look better than sets completely generated by green screen backgrounds.

Sets and armies look great in those gifs above.

You know, I know Hela is the villain, but with the Surtur face plate thing, the more and more I think about it, I start to realize the plot is going to revolve around Surtur in the sense that Dr. Strange revolved around Dormammu

At 2:06 minutes of the video there's what looks like concept art for the movie in the back wall behind them both. If someone could take a screenshot and post it here i would very much appreciate it.

From what i could gather by zooming in...
- In the left there are images of Hela with the big headress and cape in some sort of cave or something. I guess it could be the underground of Niflheim. It's a rocky area with some shades of green and strong yellow. She has someone by her side, same height with what looks like horns or something. Weirdly enough it looks like Heimdall.
- In the middle "Dr. Strange" was the first thing to pop out. Not only the name but also the sanctum sanctorum window which show up in the International Trailer. There's another image right above that looks like Earth, some sort of red and white entrance/gate with threes around...
- There also some colorful images with some water... Looks like Sakaar.
- In the right there's what looks like a hangar with the Commodore. Valkyrie spaceship. Most likely in the center of Sakaar probably in The Grandmaster's palace. There's 2 other very similar images that look like just beneath Sakaar main roads/buildings. At ground level i would say.

66 days until Ragnarok is released internationally. 66 days! :chd:I'm wondering when to start a countdown thread, maybe when we get to 50 days?

Didn't this gentleman work for WETA? Seen him in the LOTR making ofs on the extended editions, is WETA doing work on this film? Would make sense.

That's Dan Hennah, Ragnarok's production designer. He won an Oscar for his work on the LotR trilogy and he later returned for Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy. As far as I know, WETA isn't doing the prinicipal visual effects for Ragnarok, that's ILM. They may do some additional work though.

Edit: Ah, they're doing props. Makes sense, thanks Mjolnir. :woot:

I don't think they could have done a much better job on the first 2 trailers so it's well deserved.

That's awesome and I hope that buzz translates into BO success. Normally I don't care about such things but a big success could potentially mean more Thor movies (if he survives IW and it's sequel) and it would be a big thing for Waititi both in potential future Marvel movies and in Hollywood in general.

Yep. And also after a trilogy, a disappointing box office would likely mean the end of Thor solo films (for a good while at least).
