Tim Story MySpace Blog updated

But don't most of audiences of movies go in with a guess for the most part????? Save this movie.......every other movie I'm looking forward to, will be a total guess as to what I see on the screen......and a few I've read the book, but still I know there will be changes....

Actually I'm not referring to those kinds of guessing games my dear. I'm talking about production staff and actors going on record telling fans misleading things, getting hopes up, filling them with doubt, confusing the hell out of them, stringing them along and then dashing their hopes after they've paid their $9.00 opening night. Stuff like:

* X3 Production Fantasy Fodder: Cyclops will have a meaningful, powerful role in this film--you fans will NOT be dissapointed!

X3 Reality: Cyclops dies in the first 20 minutes of the film--and no one else in the movie seems to care.

See? I'm not saying keeping certain plot details saved and secret for the film. That's great. But can people get their stories for the media straight?

Thom Rothman: There WILL be Galactus!
Galactus Fan Anticipation Meter: 100%:up:

Ioan Gruffudd: Galactus is a No-Show!
Galactus Fan Anticipation Meter: -10% :down:cmad:

Tim Story: He/She/It will please MOST of you!
Galactus Fan Anticipation Meter: 5% :down:confused::up:

Sheesh. Filling your fanbase with doubt and worry is not the way to go. So when people like CaptainStacy and others say "I'm gonna wait for confirmation instead of supporting what could be an abomination of the storyline" I can TOTALLY respect that.

I'm confussed. Then again, I live in a cloud of confussion. :oldrazz: I just read Tim's entry again. Where does it say in there, that he will be portraied as a fleet of ships ? I saw Tim say they we're working on HIM/it. That sure as hell does not sound like ships. Sounds like Galactus. Not ships. It will be powerful, and MOST fans will be pleased. I just think some have got their magnifying glass out looking for something, anything that can be taken as a negative. Lets chill, and wait. We may indeed all be surprised. :word:

But the only way we know they are keeping certain plot details from us is because we hang on every freaking line we read on the internet.....

God I'm slow today.....I had no clue what the hell you were talking about for a minute....

My computer is slow too....

I'm sorry, but I just don't see a different visions as disrespectful, I just see them as different.

I understand why the fans of the original would be upset...I get upset at the different interpretations of some of my favorite novels to film....but I didn't see it as a disrespect to me as a fan, I just see it as a different interpretation of the material....I may hate it in fact....but its still simply a different vision, many times from what I wanted.

For me, when I see something done very different from any source material I am familiar with I ask why? Why have they done this or that differently? What is the reasoning behind it? Do they just not like the original? Do they think they know better?

Sometimes I can see where they are coming from, I can see the reason why something was changed and find I agree with it, sometimes not at all.

And when they do make a right pigs ear of it and what you might call 'different' I see as plain awful (like Doom in the first film) I have to ask why in hell don't they just stay closer to the source they are supposed to be adapting?
Time and again we have seen them come up short when they change things too much, so why the hell don't they learn?

But since it's clear you do see this differently, and how one sees this is an entirely personal pov, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Wow, you must really feel strongly about this.....

2 threads...?????

Nokio,

What would you say if I told you I believe you took Mr. Story's comments completely out of context? Translation: I think you missed his point buddy.

Actually I agree with alot you are saying.....

And yes I see alot of these things as plain awlful as well....but thats opinion on my part....others may see it as wonderful....

I guess in what ya'll are saying......I'm getting this picture writers, producers, directors sitting around saying....."hehehehehehehe.....how can we put this on the big screen to totally disrespect certain viewers and the creators of the original....????"

And I just don't see that happening........screwy perception on my part, I'm sure, of what you are saying.....I'm just telling you what came to mind when I read what HR stated in his post.....

I respect your view, and if it seems I'm making light of it in any way, I assure you I'm not....

I don't really even disagree with all that you are saying....just a different perception I guess.....

I don't think he meant "haters" quite as literally as you're taking it, Nokio.

The problem is this: Many studios are not looking at these comic books as opportunities to create films of artistic merit. They look at them as opportunities to make a quick buck. Much of that seems to be generated from the way they view us--the fanboys and fangirls who have been purchasing these books. I get the sense that some of these executives think we're stupid or immature 40-year-olds living in our mother's basements...jobless.

And that's why they have no qualms changing pivotal aspects of these comic book sagas---they look at these things--and their fanbase--as juvenile; they lack respect for it. Hence they continue to make silly changes just for the hell of it. Why? Because they don't see a 616 Galactus or Ultimate Galactus as being an IMPORTANT factor to anything. After all, as some have stated here, we (the fans) don't count for much compared to the mainstream. The result? Wacky, nonsensical changes are made, and the fanbase that made the comics popular enough to warrant a cinematic treatment continue to get pissed and dissillusioned with it all. The studio makes their millions. And that's it.

I honestly believe Sony is the only studio that really seems to cherish its CBM franchise and treat it like the gold it is. Marvel seems to be following suit with their Iron Man franchise. But everything in between? Meh.

You know, considering that Story, unlike other comicbook movie directors, has chosen to make his film a straight-up comicbook fantasy movie ala Spider-man, there really isn't a reasonable reason (other than money) that we shouldn't see or get 616 Galactus. It would fit right in. It's the execution that would make or break Galactus and I think the Ultimate version would just be alot easier (I think they would shrink the ships down to Matrix Sentinel level though). There's a ready reference point for the filmakers to use for the Ultimate version and it's easier and less of a risk to translate, IMO.

Don't mistake my comments for wanting the Ultimate version though.

Wow - the clock is ticking...

Hey guys,

There's a lot going on. I've been seeing the billboards going up and hopefully you have all seen the TV spot. I thought it turned out well. I've been checking the web to see what people think. Always good to check in. There are still those that can't give us a break but whadayagonnado?! Haters! Wow. And to the many that have been emailing in such support - Thank you. The emails do not go unread. Hopefully I can make YOU and MYSELF proud!

There continues to be much speculation about Galactus. Major speculation. We haven't finished the design of him/it so be careful about what you read and believe. Trust me...no one knows. One things for sure, you can expect to see him/it. It will be pretty powerful. I'm having a lot of fun with the concept and believe me - MOST will be satisfied.

Doom? Oh he's coming. Just wait. Classic look! And we definitely touch on his roots in the film. We're working long hours to make it right.

Sorry I've been so quiet! Talk to you soon.

"Classic look" and "touching on his roots...." Latverian history? Ascension to the throne? and classic Doom look....all sounding good...let us hope he gives us the attitude to match as well...

Again, I am going to wait until I see something. With how this production has been thus far, words may be the worst thing they can put it.

Story never said the the haters were related to the galactus issue, and if you don't think there were haters of the first film, well, thats incorrect too.

I see where you are coming from.....but if I enjoy the movie, want to return to see it again, my family enjoys along with friends......I'm good to go......

It's not impossible to make a film that makes money and is good at the same time. It's all subjective anyways as far as what "good or great" is.

In both defenses and criticisms of the first movie, these labels are thrown around a bit too freely: if you say bad things, you´re a "hater". If you say good things, you´re a "sheep". There ARE people who have a bias and who´ll look for reasons anywhere to bash for the sake of it and those who´ll look for ones to praise it for the sake of it, but sometimes, maybe just sometimes, people just happen to have a valid point one way or another and they´re put in the same box. I have made my reasons to dislike the movie clear, as well as the positive points I see, and in other boards it´s the other way around, I have to keep defending myself from being treated as "Mr Positive"...

I could pull about 1,000 quotes or more off the net from various people including the people that run some of these sites (NOT SHH) that bashed Tim Story & the first film as they bashed Ratner and X3. It got down to a personal level in some of the quotes that were very distasteful. Threads were closed or deleted because of some of the extreme comments.

It bothers me everytime you don't agree with something or question something someone has done, you're labled a Hater. . .

Step back a second and think about this. If being labeled a "Hater" bothers you so much (and keep in mind I'm not calling you a hater and Tim Story certainly never called you, specifically, a hater). . .

. . . if something like that bothers you . . . imagine for a moment you are Tim Story and there are people out there posting nasty, nasty things about you personally (and if you haven't seen people post very insulting things about Tim Story personally, you must not have been around here for the past several years).

I'm not saying you don't have a right to feel hurt if you think someone has labeled you, but take that feeling . . . multiply it by 100 and you may start to have an idea what it must be like to be Tim Story.

I think something all of us should keep in mind is that all of the people who are working on this project are . . . people. They're real people with families and feelings and just because it's easy to anonymously type insults doesn't mean any of us should.

BTW shouldn't this thread be merged with the Tim Story blog update thread??? yeah I think so.

IMO, that was lost here a long time ago......:o

Perfect post. Negative opinions are one thing but to take it to the level I've seen is ridiculous, selfish, and rude. It becomes like a lynch mob atmosphere where it's just rampant mindless bashing. This isn't just Tim Story that puts up with this either. If you don't like his work so be it.
