Time to Discuss Race: The White Washing of The Shredder

I think this confirms Shredder is not Sachs.

So who could this mystery person be? That's clearly reflection off an eyeball.
It could still be a version of Utrom Shredder.

I don't see how that confirms Shredder snd Sachs are not the same.

A teeny tiny bit light which people think is an eyeball in what looks to me like empty armor that Sachs looks mesmerised by.

Fichtner has made it clear that Sachs becomes Shredder in interviews. They could be punking us but if so are they really going to blow that in the trailers and tv spots?

If the trailer confirms anything I'd argue it's that the armor is mechanical and/or Sachs is an alien/mutant/mysticaly empowered guy. Basically anything but a ninja.

Fichtner is Eric Sachs/Shredder. He signed a multi-picture contract. As for him being an Untrom ala Krang or C'hrell that remains to be determined. I doubt we're going to get any kind of Mandarin-twist whatsoever. He's probably going to be some rich, white corporate tycoon who is obsessed with Japanese culture and is playing both sides. Whether they'll go the reincarnation-route remains to be determined too, but seeing as no one has confirmed or denied that the story of Hamato Yoshi and Oroku Saki will play into this movie or not, I doubt we'll be seeing that either. Again, massively stupid.

There will be more than likely one suit since from concept, toy, and now this new TV spot, it's confirmed Shredder's suit will be insanely big, bulky, fully-bladed all over his body and cape, and overall silly looking.

Heck, even earlier reports of what Shredder would look like confirmed he was going to either please or disappoint fans as far as his new design/look.

I need this new spot in HD....like yesterday. No, make that last week

Man, Shredder is the textbook definition of excessive.

Well, he already isn't Oroku Saki. So I wouldn't really care if he's an Utrom, pretending to be Eric Sachs.

i would because it basically just ruins botht he characters of shredder and krang. why have two very different villains that could be used when we can merge them into a stupid idea

again as many have said before both the nick show and idw have handled the characters perfectly

but that's what they did in the 2003 series. I don't liike it either, but that is what they did.

yeah and in the original series they turned into giant ogres and in next mutation they had turtle tittys

bad ideas are bad ideas and shouldnt be repeated just because they did it in another series

This Movie already seems full of bad ideas. One more isn't going to matter.

Ok I'm late to the party and this has probably already been said but, considering how few roles there are for Asian actors, it really sucks Shredder's race could potentially have changed.
However, based on the new trailer, it looks like they may have listened to the fans and recast the classic Shredder.

All that the new trailer does is confirm and reinforce the idea that Sachs is only the LATEST Shredder, which has absolutely no impact on the character as we're familiar with him, particularly since it appears as if we will in fact be seeing an Asian Shredder (Saki) even if he doesn't don the armor.

So......
the idea of wait and see before condemning something based on your inaccurate read starting to make at least a little bit more sense now? I would imagine anyways.

How exactly? If the scary, scarred Asian dude turns out to be Shredder all along it still does not explain the reason they even bothered to put Fichtner in the movie. A twist maybe but why does everything now have to be like Batman Begins or Iron Man 3? Shymalan may love that but Oroku Saki having a white guy taking care of his business, building the Foot Clan, upgrading his armor, and let alone he has a butchered whitewashed-version of his name doesn't bother you at all as a fan? Let alone a movie-goer? I know in the 90's movies that white people were a part of the Foot Clan as well as different nationalities, but it was mostly a Japanese-run/Japanese-manned crime organization. Here it seems like a corporation with a military complex built into it. I don't see a lot of traditional ninja garments, much if any ninja weapons besides the Turtles, and Shredder has been changed to a more robotic look. Meanwhile, the real Shredder, if the Man in the Shadows is him, and the old Shredder armor just sits in some room. What?

I don't know how one can honestly defend half of the stuff this movie is doing.

One word describes why they would have both Saki and Fitchner's character Eric Sachs in the film: Legacy.

@TurtleFan(s)

I said maybe, this recent revelation adds credence to the idea of 'wait and see'. Seeing as how everything you said before didn't take into account this minor/major tidbit?
Not saying you still can't hate change or the idea that they are 'copying' some other well received execution in movies of similar nature. Is there something inherently bad about doing that? Would it have been more awesome if they did it before begins?
...just saying maybe your rants would be better found when they aren't based on speculation alone.

And no, as a 'movie goer' a white washed name doesn't bother me one bit. Why would it.

Exactly. If the reincarnation aspect is in play in this movie (and I think it probably is), there is some sense in making Saki the original, ancient version of The Shredder and building a legend around him.

I'd much rather that than have Saki be the "second" Shredder.

There's a way they can honor the mythos while doing something fresh, the trailer is starting to show hints of how that might be possible.

If that shadowy Asian figure is Saki, he would have likely been the 'second' to don the mantle and armor, with Sachs taking the mantle from him, which fits even more with the theme of 'legacy' and fits the stuff we'd seen in previous trailers.

Legacy-smegacy. I can't see Oroku Saki being fine with someone, other than Karai, taking up his armor. Some big, corporate white guy? Saki would impale him on his claws for not being "the true Shredder."

It's like if Darth Vader found out there was someone out in the galaxy pretending to be him and donning his armor and helmet. Vader would hunt the S.O.B. down.

^ If that guy in the shadows is Saki, he seems to be very much fine with Sachs assuming the mantle, so your opinion doesn't match what the trailers have suggested.
