Yes that is the destruction of Krypton.

No Jor-El died battling Zod so that Kal-El's ship could launch safely off Krypton. Krypton explodes a day or so later

Spoiler tag those buddy

If Superman is going up against multiple Kryptonians with the same powers, how can they not beat him? That is too far fetched if you ask me.

From what we've been told so far:

Superman doesn't go up against all of Zod's forces. In fact, he only takes on Zod, Faora, and Nam-ek and they're somewhat hindered by the fact that they aren't accustomed to their powers like Superman is and Superman is provided aid by the Military apparently.

Wow, MOS has 60% at Rotten Tomatoes? That's even lower than Ang Lee's Hulk which is at 62% and I hated "Hulk". :hmm

All I can say is SCREW the critics.

I have heard nothing but high praise down to 'a few iffy bits but otherwise awesome' from both Superman fans and the regular cinema-goer.

I get this feeling that the critic pieces I have read that hate on the movie are picking huge holes in nothing. What did they want? Shakespeare in Space?

Maybe, with all the scrutiny around Snyder, Goyer and Nolan for their apparent free will in making and producing the movie, the critics are going to town because they expected an Inception/300 hybrid. I think they expect and protest WAY too much.

This is Superman.

This is the reality of an alien living in our world in our time. It's not Batman, where he's already human, so hi-tech and conceivable gadgetry adds credence and a more instant understanding to his existence. This is a flippin' alien movie, where the dude flies around earth and space, and can do pretty much anything he wants. This isn't a bubble gum kids movie but an adult take on what would happen if a character with that ability actually turned up. No-one can fathom what that would really be like, so drop the pretence that your criticism actually means anything, leave your preconceived ideas at the cinema door, and see it for what it is.

They all want this bumbling fool Kent character devised by Christopher Reeve. I wonder how many of them actually read the comic books to realise that he's not actually meant to be that way.

Gah....it annoys the HELL out of me to read this stuff, and see the low rankings because so many of this generation of movie-goers hang, tooth and nail, onto these reviews and scores to determine what they do with their money.

I attended the European Premiere last night in London, and it was Spectacular. Epic beyond imagination. Hulk has always been my No.1 guy (liked Bana, hated Norton, love Ruffalo, Bixby all time hero), but this is the Superman I've been waiting for. This is how you set up a franchise. Nobody has ever seen the first steps explained in such emotional and raw detail, and this is how you get us wanting more.

This is a story about Kal-El. Superman comes next.

The editing and cinematography, as others pointed out, were pretty consistent problems. There was also plenty of hammy dialogue and some cringe inducing exposition.

Overall, I thought the plot got way too complicated for no real good reason.

Doesn't make it a bad movie at all, just coulda been a lot better.

I'm experiencing a sense of de ja vu here since I could have sworn that the same thing was said for Superman Returns.lol

This is much better than Superman Returns.
I wasn't checking the time every ten minutes during this one :oldrazz:

Thanks.

That's too bad. I was hoping their deaths would be similar and as emotional as they were in Birthright.

I think in some ways, it's a little bit more tragic than what happened in that particular comic book arc:

Lara dies on her own, after having had an day to process that her son is long gone from her; lord knows if he's in safe and good hands, and she has to deal with Zod's threats and with the fact that her husband was murdered, most likely in front of her by Zod as well. So when Krypton blows up, she's all alone and she has to die alone as well.

And as for Jor-el, being murdered as opposed to being killed by an natural disaster is pretty sad as well.

This right here read it and weep. Well said sir well said.

I finally saw it yesterday, this movie has so many great things, and they took RISKS, wich I am still processing, tonight im going again, im not sure I loved those choices wich were STRONG but it is definitely worth multiple viewings if you love comics and this character, yes he is different, I liked how he felt novice and actually was, just dealing with new situations and solving them not always in a perfect way.
He needs to get closer to the guy we always loved in the sequel as he becomes more confident etc. Even though I understand the filmmakers choice at the end I feel that it was kinda rushed.
Anyways Metropolis was completely destroyed so next time we'll probably need a more psicological challenge for supes as we have already seen this huge fights.

Some questions for two of you.

So is better then superman returns? because the average critic thought so,and if it is better why some are on side of many of the critics you think in this one?

This question is for anybody who has seen it has well.

Just looking at trailers this looks clearly better.

Could you explain more what you think is going on,and do you think the man of steel rating is right enough? and if so do think thor, iron man 2 and 3, superman returns was rank higher because of critic bias?

The average score for man of steel is 3/5 star so far, while superman returns is 4/5 stars.

You think these ratings should be reverse after watching man of steel?

It's not really a good comparison.

Alice was the 2nd movie that used 3D after the Avatar crazyness, that's why it made so much money back then, people was still in awe of the 3D gimmick.

The point is it made money, and the most the audience like it,even if it was considered rotten.

Of course the average score was 3/5 stars making it a good movie, and still not bad.

Anything below 50% should be considered rotten anyway, not above it.

The audience still came out and did not listen to critics when they read their papers,or look at local tv,or came to the internet to read what was said.
Besides if there is a interesting enough movie for the masses they will come out even if the rating is not that high and many will still like it.

They did with all the transformers movies, the hobbit, spiderman 3 etc...
Most of the audience like these movies more then some movies rated higher, like superman 1,2, and superman returns for example.
There is a lesson in there somewhere.

There's a lot of angst and inner conflict in the movie and Clark barely smiles, most critics want a fully-formed Superman already but he's just getting there in this movie. But make no mistake, there are a lot of great Superman moments in this movie. If you want a source material that resembles MOS, the personality of Clark is a bit like SUPERMAN EARTH ONE, while the action reminded me of DEATH OF SUPERMAN, the Krypton aspect more like Byrne's TMOS.

So it seems this superman movie flew over alot of the critics heads.
I bet if you tell them it's from those comics then they will say,not my cup of tea and they will say i like the superman 1 and 2 source material better.
You know more comedy, less of the science fiction stuff approach, less action ,more romance,a brighter superman suit, THE WHOLE world embracing him right away etc...
By the way i like superman returns, but i know i will like this more and most likely more then superman 1 and 2,and i still like those movies.

I figured all of this.
Which probably means the sequels will be super celebrated and the second sequel will have critics praise the first as the best lol ala TDK trilogy.

You've got to remember as far as ratings are concerned, the film is yet to be released in some places. The vast majority of those ratings are from hadcore movie critics. Superman Returns has been out alot longer so the ratings are bound to be better.

Give it time, I'm sure once the film has been released for a few weeks we'll seen an improvement in ratings....Well I'd like to hope so.

Exactly  that's what I was saying about this may not be looked back on as harshly by some critics if we get sequels as this film is about you investing in Kal El/Clark Kent much in the way you had to invest in Bruce Wayne before Batman in Batman Begins.

Yeah Zod's visor gets damaged so he doesn't participate in Smallville. Kal vs Faora & Nam-Ek and Nam-Ek briefly goes off to tackle the military and they eventually retreat. Then in Metropolis is Zod vs Kal 1 on 1

This is head and shoulders above Superman Returns - which I think had so much potential in it's attachment to 1 & 2, but ultimately blew it with said attachment ultimately being it's downfall. I have nothing positive to say about that movie, other than it was nice to see the Superman titles once again. Actors, wrong (apart from Langella who is a favourite of mine). CGI, terrible. Story, wrong - I mean, come on...!?! A story about a maybe Superboy, Supes stalking Lois at home, getting *****-whipped by an inferior Lex Luthor, and then lifting a Kyrptonite continent into space? I know I'm talking about the new film in terms of belief, but Returns was supposed to honour the Reeve canon. It 100% did not.

Someone already mentioned that this has gone above the heads of many a critic, and I agree. The familiarity of Returns helped boost it's ratings, with everyone getting all misty eyed over Routh's similarity to the recently departed Reeve. That's all the talk was when he was announced, during production, and after viewing the movie. The reaction to the first leaked pictures of Routh as Kent was a media hysteria.

Iron Man 2 sucked - no two ways about it. What a let down, but still visually engaging because they have that CGI nailed. Iron Man 3 just plain pissed me off, but I thought it better than 2 without the impact of 1. Could have been better, but the support character development, particularly Pepper, carried it more than 2.

Thor is another one in the Man of Steel vein, but it is a story that is embedded in folk lore, fantasy and magic - elements we seemingly associate more with than aliens. I still like Thor, because it is the first proper big effort for the character, Asgard was well conceived, but the Earth story was not good enough.

The thing with Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor that made you overlook there individual failings was their collective greatness in ultimately setting up The Avengers. The Easter Eggs were the main talking points, the connected world and storyline made you pay attention and think ahead to what was coming next. We had context to this movie, and we couldn't wait for what comes next. The Marvel cinematic universe has been very well executed on screen.

With Batman, we all really knew from the start (despite the lack of confirmation), that there was going to be a three picture story arc. It's what we expect of all these comic book movies these days, particularly as they have so much back story to choose from. The arc gives Batman it's context in his own DC world. There was never a need for other movies to link on or tie up, and I'd say we weren't really looking for it given the issues with JL and Returns. At the time, we just wanted good Batman movies. Period. Plus, the origin story had never been captured on screen yet, so this was a win win situation for the new franchise.

The critics for MoS haven't forgotten the cinematic canon from before, and the majority grew up with that canon. This is literally an 'alien' depiction of Superman for them, and I dare say they are pissed off because it's not what they expected. Trouble is, no-one told them beforehand, that this really ISN'T a movie about Superman. It's about Kal-El.

I don't think the ratings will rise much more, simply because critics read other critics reviews, and some bias will play into the new reviews because some thoughts or inklings one reviewer may have had are actual issues for other reviewers. It gives more meat to the bones of their issue. Agreeing on the good points is a given, so the mentality behind a positive review is too simple. How do you describe something you've never seen before and that blew you away? "I've never seen anything like this before, and it blew me away." How do you describe something that wasn't right or not what you expected? "I didn't like this because....I was expecting....(and continue to pour our what you expected - the Superman movie you would have written or directed, because everyone has done that in their head)."

It is what it is - an EPIC movie about iconic characters. There are three people in one here - Kal-El, Clark Kent & Superman. We've now met the first one, and we're waiting to see the other two in all their cinematic glory.

You know how I felt after watching this? I felt like crying....crying because a long lost friend has finally come home :super:

Actually yes, if you've been here for the past few days, you'd know that Autonet has seen it. :oldrazz:

I will tell you the truth, Anita18. Regardless of what Autonet may have saw or might think of the film, my comments were directed at someone else. You don't normally see people write critical reviews and then brag about it at another website. I myself find that kind of childish and a little unprofessional. If a person is going to be willing to stick his neck out and boast (or in this case troll since he ridiculously gave the film 1½ stars out of 5) about his work like that, then he should be willing to take some of criticism of his own. I think that's probably why true film critics don't normally do that.

Back to Autonet, I have to say, I don't know what he saw, but if he is going to defend this guy's work, he better get his facts straight. If he actually did see "Man of Steel" and Marvel's "Avengers", then he can't deny the fact that both films are basically about alien invasions and that there are battles that wantonly destroy property with disregard for innocent human life. At least you get see Superman actually saving people (other than Super heroes) in his film, which should at least indicate that his intentions are not to harm the innocent. I know that much just from the trailers alone. To say that I am defending this film and bashing "Avengers" based on "nothing" as Autonet claims, is just ridiculous. I was just pointing out the similarities of the two films and how one so called critic showed bias to one film over the other based on his review of the two films. That is something, and to deny that by saying it's based on "nothing" brings in to question whether he actually saw the films (or even the trailers) or not.

Anyone else getting flashbacks of the Green Lantern Review thread? you know with all the "screw the critics", "critics don't matter", "any one who cares about critics is an idiot".

That fiasco didn't end well, I sure hope this does because Supes is my 2nd favorite hero.

Exactly.
I still like SR for what it is. But MoS is completely different, it blew me away, there's no doubt in my mind it's a much better movie in every aspect. I truly enjoyed it.

How dare you say that name here...!!

(I kid, I kid)

No comparison. 'That' movie just isn't any good. Wrong frat boy for the job.
