Guardians of the Galaxy To Infinity and Beyond: The Thanos Thread - Part 1

JLM I think you're missing the point of some things, big time.

I'm not missing the point of anything. I was just saying if having the Tesseract and the Aether in the same place was a bad idea, then so is the Orb and Aether. That's all.

Yeah but you questioned why would the collector want that if it's dangerous to have them in the same place. Bottom line is the collector could probably care less. He collects, he wants them all regardless the danger. As csketch said collector has his own agenda.

I see what you're saying, I must've misread what someone else put. I think I confused myself, haha.

Yea, Tivan could either just want to complete the collection of THE rarest and most powerful artifacts in the universe because he's an obsessive hoarder... or he could want to become a God himself.

In the books he has the power of foreseeing future events and part of the reason he collects so many beings and items is he knows they'll be needed for a future reason. Early on his reason was to unleash them all on Thanos, the one being that posed a threat to him and his race.

That's a good point. Perhaps he foresees what Thanos intends, and he thinks he can oppose him with the use of the Gems.

Could be. He's never really been a good guy, he just does **** out of self preservation.

I think many people don't understand or know much about the character, The Collector, in turn not getting his motivations.

No one ever expands on it.

I think Marvel is trying to save Thanos for Phase III, and I think his motivations and quest for the Infinity Gems will be expanded upon.

Thanos looked more comic accurate in the Avengers, he still looked good in GOTG. Although I did raise an eyebrow at the comment of Thanos being the most powerful being in the universe. And I almost had an orgasm seeing the celestial that was just nuts.

Yea man, a proper Jack Kirby Celestial on the big screen. What a time to be a comic book fan.

Very true, we just need people like Surfer and the FF going back to Marvel. I am sure they would kill it with a Surfer movie.

You have to wonder a bit why Thanos is bothering using all of these weaker people to accomplish his goals. He doesn't seem to have any other affairs to attend to, so why not just do all of this himself?

He probably doesn't, but he likes to play chessmaster. It's all to impress Death, if that's the story they're going for.

I think Korath was exaggerating when he said "most powerful being in the universe", but his concern was valid. Of course Thanos isn't the most powerful being in the universe. Odin could beat him. A Celestial could beat him. Eternity could beat him. Galactus could beat him, if he was in the MCU. But if Thanos has time to prepare, he can defeat almost anyone - if Ronan came to him with the power gem, for example, Thanos would already have all kinds of traps ready to easily dispatch him. Hell, Quill did it with a far inferior intellect.

Thanos isn't the most powerful being in the universe by far, but he is the most dangerous at the present moment.

I hope they change that because Odin is so f***ing lame in the movies. At least after Thor 2.

I guess you've never heard of letting others do the dirty work for you? And if that were the casein the MCU we would have no build up to him. We can't just see him collecting all the stones and overpowering everyone in the way. How would that be fun? Our heroes wouldn't win then in any of the films. You get what I'm saying?

It's the same with any powerful being like a king. Why do something yourself when you can easily just have your army or servants do it for you.

Broseph is right. Why bother gathering the stones when he can just get his servants/lackeys to do it for him.

Given Thanos' reputation in the galaxy and that he tends to cause a big splash when he acts, any personal attempt to acquire the stones would've drawn unnecessary heat upon him at this stage of the game. It would be subtler to have others act in his place and mask the stones' acquisition under the veil of an invasion or genocide.

Why bother to go through all of the trouble of doing it yourself when you can just manipulate other people to do it for you? All of rewards with none of the danger/hassle. Plus Thanos is referred to as being "the most powerful being in the universe" at one point and he seems not at all concerned that Ronan was threatening him with a freaking Infinity Stone, so clearly he's a being of immense power. I wouldn't surprised if in GOTG 2 or Avengers 3, we don't see him personally lay waste to Xandar and the Nova Corps before taking the stone from them.
